Jalen Hurts has thrown to the middle of the field on 8% of his drop backs, which ranks dead last in the NFL. The next closest QB is at 15%.

Im just curious as to why this is so low I get favoring the outside but we are taking away such a huge part of the field when we don’t attack the middle….

Ok... 3 things

1. Height helps when throwing over the middle....being able to see

2.   A strong arm helps when throwing over the middle squeezing throws in tight windows

3.  You have more reads in the middle,  help can come from anywhere, you have more to watch and more information to process

Do these things fit the profile of the guy behind center.

As Vilma said Sunday,  " give credit to Sirianni and Moore for putting Hurts in position where he doesn't have to read the defense. "

Look at Sunday.... do you think Hurts played at an elite level?

Well ...let's say he had 12 or 13 games like that.... which is what I have been trying to say he did in 2022... those numbers are going to look like MVP type numbers right?    126 passer rating... a couple of TD passes...no turnovers.

We saw AJ catch the ball over defenders and Smith take a 5 yard pass to the house due to busted coverage... but a bunch of games like that...it's going to look elite isn't it?

That was 2022.  Just watch the video...same stuff.   Then watch the 2017 video and see the difference.  Not difficult to see.

But I'm a hater.   Watch the Superbowl part of the video...see those throws that ended up getting the stats... AJ long TD in triple coverage where he was the one to make the break on the ball...  Smith long pass where he was  7 yards behind the defense and had to catch a pass and fall out of bounds instead of an easy TD.

That shows up as around 100 passing yards and a TD.    But just watching it...does it impress you?

Height excuse just seems like a cop out since we see plenty of short QBs nowadays attack the middle.

The Arm and reads makes sense though.

But the flip side of all this though it has to make the D job easier knowing we are unlikely to use a massive part of the field

Didn’t watch the game to make that call but 4th qtr nothing was really that impressive think I see a nice throw to the outside to Dotson for a first down….

The deep ball to AJ was AJ making a great play the ball was honestly underthrown wasn’t a great ball…. If the ball was put in front of AJ he likely could have scored though that wasn’t the goal

Height is legit... but I agree a cop out... because the idea is the QB should maneuver within the pocket to create a throwing lane.

When you grow up being able to out run everyone OUTSIDE the pocket.. it's a switch to remain and move within the pocket to create a lane.

This is what I see and was concerned about with Hurts all along.

Been an issue for me for some time. Why we rarely get any slot production(you know like the short crossers). Hurts can't see the whole field,Joe has mentioned it also

I wanted Moore to "force" Hurts to become a QB LOL. Seems Lurie wants them to cater to what makes Hurts comfortable. To become a complete QB, Hurts needs to step outside his comfort zone and nobody seems eager to do that including QB1

Yeah we have both been pointing this stuff out. Use his athleticism to move in the pocket. He should be looking to throw to 3-4 reads before running. TB has figured out how to flush Hurts. Hurts is especially bad running left and trying to throw. Apparetly Lurie wants to stick with the college offense which in the NFL actually makes Hurts job harder. He may be more comfortable at the ball snap, but after snap, it's not putting him in the position to even begin talk of MVP. Brees was a small QB,watch old film on how he worked the pocket. Even running QB's like Jackson and Mahomes look to pass first. We added Dotson to be a force in the slot. Not much from him because Hurts won't throw to him. I can't blame Dotson for lack of targets. Hurts likes taller receivers he can see or who can go up for the ball. I suspect Wilson will be a the slot moving forward. meantime it's a waste of Dotsons talent. Also Calcaterra who got a few looks with Goedert out. But this needs to be every snap. We have 5 targets at least on every pass play. Seeing 1,maybe 2 isn't going to make Hurts great

And as such, motion has become new window dressing on the same old concepts.   I said this long ago LOL

In the vid in this article it's sad we were tied at 13 with 8 minutes left in the 4th. This should have been a blow out

The Eagles have plenty of spark on offense thanks to their plethora of options between the receiving game and RB Saquon Barkley, but their team under Nick Sirianni appears to be in shambles (did you see the shouting at the crowd in Week 6?).              Been saying this too. We have top tier talent overall on offense and it's not being used. There is zero reason not to put up 31 PPG. Escaping vs the Browns was nuts. If we can't put this stuff together there is nothing more Howie can do to bring players in

Mailata out and a rearranged O line should trigger a different look. The Gnats lead the league in sacks. Hurts is going to have to make his 1 read FAST. This should mostly be a 1 read and run game because that's all the time he will have. Hurts will be on the run alot. They need to scheme better for Barkley, who,if they do, he can find success. If they cannot,it will be a long day for him also

Lurie has been embarrassed in TB twice, the Browns game, although a win, was embarrassing for him also. Siri mocking the fans is not going over well. IDK how much more Lurie will tolerate

Always thought this was going to be a telling 4 game stretch for us.

Browns- wasn’t a perfect game but lots of positives D only gave up 9 points and the O moved the ball well overall and no turnovers.

NY-Cincy-Jags are the remaining three opponents pretty much see it as we need to go at least 3-1 in this stretch(2-1 after the Browns win).

Think we easily have the most talented roster compared to our next 3 opponents. Really no excuse for why we shouldn’t win all 3

Should be interesting. Gnats D have a pass rush and Hurts and the coaches seem to have no answer for that. Now you add Mailata out and an O line shake-up and Hurts will be running and gunning for his life. We will need the D(secondary) for Cincy if this offense keeps this sputtering up. Their tandem RB's don't scare me much, but Burrow can get really HOT while our boy Hurts is luke warm at best(Still don't know who Luke is lol). Jags took a step back from last year when they looked like they would be a team to beat last year(up and comers),but Lawrence doesn't look like he is doing much now. I had him and dropped him as a fantasy BU. Really disappointing like Hurts,so for me that is a toss up. As Joe said Hurts needs to have no turnovers(of course this applies to every game). Barkley needs to get his head back in the game and stop the moronic mistakes. So I feel the same as you. Gnats should be a win if Hurts gets the dang ball out, we could easily lose to Cincy because we are no creative again. Same plays with motion isn't a "new" offense. Goedert should be back by then which is helpful IF,IF,Hurts can find the guy. We CAN outscore them and we're going to have to. Bark could have a decent game if he has his head on.I have it W-L-toss up. Jags game will depend on which Eagles teams shows up. I didn't look this up,but I believe we still have not scored a TD in the first 1/4??? That needs to be fixed

BTW the Browns suck,so that is a rather poor example. Penn state could probably have held them to 9 also LOL. Browns D started off hot, then because their QB sucks, they are quitting on them. Sounds like a situation we can relate to. We were fortunate Chubb didn't make it back,he would have damaged us some. Jones can be rattles like what we used to do to Eli,but that dominant pass rush isn't up to snuff. Our reshuffled O line needs to hold the line and Hurts needs to read the D's

Were you able to watch the Browns game yet?  NFL network or any other source?

Not a poor example it’s who we played the team Did what are supposed to can’t help who that opponent is…. Holding an NFL team to 9 points is impressive for any D even if it’s a bad team.

Really 6..  was a gift 3 points to start after a questionable roughing the passer on an incomplete 3rd and 7.  As Ham said...their 10 points at half were ( whatever term he used) ...very fortunate or unlikely.
