Feels like they’re doing the right thing for the wrong reason — fear of players unionizing.

Certainly two of the all-time greats. I would rank Wes Hopkins, pre-injury, up there too.

I think fans under the age of about forty really don't know the true Wes Hopkins. Yeah, they saw him play for Buddy on those great Eagles defenses. But that Hopkins they watched they were kids was just a shell of his former self. He was decent -- and he could still hit -- but he wasn't the terror that he was his first couple of years under Marion Campbell. He was in the Ronnie Lott, Kenny Easley class.

Those Campbell years were awful, but there were two shining lights. Mike Quick and Wes Hopkins. Sadly, they both had their best years in that dreadful era and then got injured. What might have been!

For any chance of college football happening I think there would have to be some sort of collaboration within conferences that they all help each other out with potential lawsuits.

Any death or permanent health damage caused by COVID-19 where a player, coach, or staff member is patient 0 will (I assume) result in a $100+ mill lawsuit

I’m expecting the nfl to capitalize on no college football on saturdays and have games on Saturday. Make sure they have games on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

They should throw in Friday too. Networks will jump through hoops for live sports, they could recoup some lost revenue, even if its a crappy game

Union never happen , no way.

They are canceling because of law suits .

With the nba and nhl starting later then usually it’s not a bad idea. And college basketball might not start til January. They could realistically own live Sports aspect for a good 2 months and have it on 5 days a week

Yup. Wes Hopkins pre injury was on a HOF trajectory having said that he still had a pretty good career.

The issue is if/when these campuses close because of outbreaks and they keep playing football, how do they do it without all but admitting these players are school employees rather than students? The players have so much power right now and it’s scary to these schools.

Not that I disagree about the fear of lawsuits as well.

Kids play 2 maybe 3 years of ball in college, cant base unions on that.

More like 3-5.

Yup makes sense.

Much of the nfl talent never sees 4 or 5 years.

Union never happen

Keeping six would mean cutting a much better player at another position.

It really comes down to ST play, versatility, inactives and if a player will make it to the PS.  Singleton and Riley were beasts on STs last year. I figure Bradley and Singleton will be trained at all three positions.  I suspect they may be battling for the same spot.  For a DB to beat them, the DB will need to have versatility (knocks out Leblanc and Douglas) or really good ST play.  That kind of leaves Epps.  Figure Avery, Ostman and Miller are battling for the same spot but that can depend on if the go five DTs or four.   So it is a battle of the sixth DE with the fifth DT and the tenth DB with the sixth LB. if they went ten DL and nine DBs and Six LBs, for example. Of course, they might go 24 D and 26 O too, so that 25th D player is also battling with the 26th O player. Bottom of the roster battle.

While losing college football is disappointing, I'd be more than happy to get more NFL games on Saturdays.

Not unless HS football cancels nationwide.  Friday nights is reserved for HS.  NFL doesn’t want dads, moms, uncles, grandparents, brothers and sisters deciding between watching junior and his buddies or missing his NFL team play. Junior wins every time.  And if junior is not playing in front of fans, that is a boon local TV and/or radio will capitalize on.  Local radio is already broadcasting the games.

Normal scenarios, sure. But in this? I wouldn't put it past them to capitalize anyway they can.

Big deal.  Most of us have been working since our teenage years.  Is it impossible for you to comprehend that a football player may actually dislike their job and can't wait to stop playing?

Considering we play 1 or 2 LBs a majority of the time, I don’t see how we can justify keeping six, even for ST purposes.

We have more intriguing depth at WR, DT and safety than at LB, and we’re already going to carry three QBs. Save the roster spots for talent and let Fipp coach up what’s left.

You don’t know his life though. Maybe he did save what he needs and is in a much better place now. If it’s not fun and its a medical risk, then I see no reason why he can’t just walk away now.

There is obviously not a reason.

This is a godsend to the NFL, if they can pull off the season.  They are negotiating the next TV deals and can throw saving the networks butts this year into the mix.   Once the SEC bows out, the NFL can start leveraging those Saturday games with the networks into an extension of deals.

If the Rock has any sense, he is putting together a bubble package for the spring.  Same reasoning.

This should help with creating bubbles. 4 bubbles, 8 teams per bubble. Need 2 stadiums. Half the teams play on Saturday, the other half Sunday. NFL could dominate the entire weekend.

Either he’s going to show he can tackle or kempski is going to have a gif about him not.

There's a very real physical price to pay with this game and the price gets higher the further you go. We don't know if he had any concussions for example, or surgeries. If he is willing to forego the income I respect him for it.

I've told this story before but it bears repeating here. Some years ago my wife and I were dining at a restaurant in Washington - Tomato - and Larry Brown, former great RB with that team, was sitting at a nearby table with some friends. We were maybe 20 feet from the door. They finished before us and it took him nearly 10 minutes to stand up and walk those 20 feet. I kid you not.

Sure, that said most of us would have traded careers with him in a heart beat.
