Daily reminder that PFF is garbage. I'm not even a big Dean fan but he was not even close to the worst player on the D.

Oh and Carter is actually a bust.

Curious how they calculated that

BTW... The Jets got the exact same production from Hassan Reddick as the Eagles got from Bryce Huff in Week 1.   :flex:

The NFLPA takes a very active interest in player contracts for obvious reasons.  They're all for players getting deals that drive the market up, and will pressure players not to sign deals that can reset the market downward.  There's no way Purdy is signing anything much below the current QB market rate.

He'll be close to $50M AAV, if not over.

Thats good to know and hopefully it happens. But unless there is an extension before his rookie contract ends they're good until after '25 season.

Last year it seemed like Sunday night, which is usually the premiere time slot for the best game, had a lot of weak matchups. It started off with a good one week 1. But this Sunday is Bears/Texans... meh. Then Chiefs/Falcons... meh. Then two good matchups in a row. Then week 6 is Bengals/Giants. Thankfully a lot of the other weeks look better. Last year was one of the worst NFL seasons ever though. So many awful national games and then for the Eagles every other week was a rain game.

@mattwill

Eagles - 38

Falcons - 26

Bonus:  Defense generates at least 2 turnovers... scores on 1.

There was a video on the 21 package that utilized Shipley and Barkley on the field at the same time, with Shipley motioning.

Everyone commented on the play design where Shipley leaked out in to the flat, and it opened a nice space for an easy completion to Smith. But Shipley had a total of 4 snaps and each of them were very effective.

Im excited for that to grow.

found the article with the gifs of each shipley play.

https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/how-kellen-moore-found-a-unique-role-for-will-shipley-in-rookies-nfl-debut/613913/

Ineresting part of the design on that first one was that Smith seemed to sell that he was going to block for a Shipley screen before breaking off in to his route. That was such a cool play.

Rams signed Dylan McMahon. Dumb that the Eagles let him go.

Data cannot be trusted. Giants won their opener in '22 at Tennessee. That was the week that it became apparent that Brian Daboll was a great hire.

Expectations for Dotson need to be low. Not so much because of Dotson but more so because Hurts is going to Brown, Smith, Goedert first.

But is Moore really going to ignore Dotson because Moore calls more plays than Hurts and those plays have designated progressions.   Plays are designed to maximize who is likely to be open. I was surprised to see Dotson get 32 snaps with just a couple of weeks with the team.  Hurts needs to learn Dotson and so does Moore and Nick.  Dotson needs more time understanding what is expected on given plays and both he and Hurts need practice together to be familiar with what each can expect from the other. Dotson (and Calcaterra and Covey give the Eagles more ability to spread the ball around and just like Gainwell will see touches every game, we should expect the same for them.

Watched thr All22.  Calcaterra blocks better than Ertz ever did.  Interesting, with the game on the line, they sat Dotson and put Covey in.  Covey was displaying his inner Devonta Smith and taking his blocking seriously.  Don’t know if Wilson can run routes to be open but he is awesome blocking in the open field.  Dotson probably needs to work on his blocking for this scheme but he was getting open, especially on motion plays. Ran a lot outside.  So we’re Grant and Britain open on motion plays and they will get more touches. We have only seen the beginnings of this offense.  Green Bay is hard to run on but Barkley slipped several times before they changed cleats.

Bechton is fun to watch. Plays a little high at times but it doesn’t seem to matter because he doesn’t move.  But when asked to move someone, he does.  Jurgens struggled one on one with Slaton but he is a big man.  Slaton didn’t have a chance on double teams though.   Hurts needs to stop running right from solid pockets.  The OL is giving him clean pockets for the most part.  Fred Johnson is the new #6 OL   Man is a mountain.  Really has improved his game.

On STs, Ringo will block a kick this year. He is so fast off the edge.  Curious as to @FranklinFldEBUpper’s take on the teams.  I thought Gainwell was foolish on taking it out of the end zone but I saw that a few times on Sunday.  I think the kickoff with blockers engaged between the thirty and forty is misleading to the returner.  It really isn’t as open as it seems.  Thought Mann got better height and hang time without sacrificing distance.  VanSumeren and McCollum are the protection against fakes.  That’s some speed and size.  Saw DeJean in there once.  Thought the one play where the Packers did kick it shorter was interesting.  If a touchback it goes to the twenty if it bounces into the end zone.  Think we’ll see more concentration on trying that as teams figure this out but touchbacks kicked into or through the end zone will remain the rule.

The defense was a little vanilla at times.  They are still adjusting and getting familiar.  DeJean looked good on his few snaps.  Mitchell got tested and got better as the game went on.  CJGJ doesn’t deserve the flack.  He played well except for some missed tackles.  Dean is so inconsistent.  Awesome play followed by brain farts.  Baun was a beast but missed a few tackles.  Davis and Carter are a force but they faded a bit.  Nolan Smith actually played better than I thought.  Graham is still a force.  Huff was invisible.  One could watch the film and conclude Love missed seeing open players in the holes in the zone at times until one sees the pressure and where the read was.  Work in progress but a lot of promise.  More variation in the coverage than I expected.  That one touchdown seemed to be a missed communication between DeJean and Dean. Green Bay has a solid offense and a stout defense.

Goodell deserves some blame.  Calling the Eagles the home team was a joke from the start with Green Bay wearing the country’s colors.  Had to know that.  After the Superbowl field issue to demonstrate the NFL to South America with such a slick field is an embarrassment.  Should fire Roger right now as that was the last straw (okay, in honesty Roger hit @BigEFly’s last straw about a decade ago).  Time for Troy Vincent to take the reins.

Peacock is part of the NBC family.  That pregame, and halftime were atrociously awful. Calling it bad would be an insult to the word bad.  That said, I thought the college announcer team was better than the slop I muted last night. And speaking of slop, boy did Fox get hoodwinked by Brady.  That was pretty sad. Bring back Olson as the #1 commentator.

There's a delicate balance, I suppose, between fielding a team that's best able to compete at the moment vs. constructing a roster with future development in mind. Losing McMahon sucks but it's obvious that the Eagles were not THAT convinced he was going to be a long term solution as their backup center.

The question now facing us is how we deal with the backup center position going forward. Obviously Nick Gates is the guy for now, but he only has three "free" activations off the practice squad for the season and he's already used one. Assuming the Eagles do the same thing for their next two games as they did for the opener, he'll need to be placed on the 53-man roster prior to the Bucs game. So who gets released to clear that spot? Patrick Johnson? Devin White? Eli Ricks? Oren Burks? Or does Avonte Maddox suffer his annual injury in the next two weeks to clear a roster spot?

And of course a spot will need to be cleared next month when Sydney Brown is finally activated off PUP.
