It's because they operate as charities, at least for the ones that actually follow the tenets of the faith (love thy neighbor, the man with two coats shall give to the man with none, etc). But as we all know, idealistic notions are easily corrupted by selfishness and greed as soon as those in power begin to have Joel Osteen like ambitions.

Yeah it sucks that they're getting a bad rep because there are so many honest churches that do so much good in their communities. But as is always the case, all it takes is a handful of sheety ones to ruin it for everyone.

I may not agree with him saying it or using it that way, but when someone called "the Holy Father" ignored the scripture saying don't add or remove things from the New Testament and breaks that in his official capacity to add rhetoric to a scripture it's worse in my mind.

my point is, the sec of defense is using scripture to justify war and the killing of innocent people.
