I never said I wanted US troops there, but I also said whatever it takes and I have no apologies about that. Do the job right, but you all want that to be the only way. I don't believe it has to be ours.

So whose sons and daughters are you willing to sacrifice for this non essential war? Glad to hear you have no apologies about wanting to send other people’s kids to their death fighting a war that isn’t about keeping America free and safe.

Bombs won't solve it. Everyone is comparing this to Iraq c1990s-2000s. But it is more like Afghanistan. Iran has prepared for this. The Ayatollah isn't a single individual. They have layers of leadership ready to take over. We must occupy for years to come. As soon as we leave they are going right back to where we started from.

One of the smartest decisions GHWB made was NOT invading Iraq and toppling Hussein. A lesson his son didn't heed...

Exactly and no one in their right minds want the Israeli army to invade Iran. They'd have to go thru a couple other countries to get there and it would be a full on regional war and likely the start of WWIII. So then who is it going to be? Maybe Putin can lend out his Wagner dudes in return for complete cutoff of US help to Ukraine.

It is understandable to be jaded about the mismanagement, but I can't see eye to eye with your interpretation of the original intent.

That argument might be easier to make about Iraq, insofar as OEF was initially too easy so the American public was looking for another fight.

The invasion and occupation of Afghanistan was strategically necessary. The problems after it was we tried to fight a one year war twenty times over, and OIF spread a volunteer force thin.
