You could even get a mid to low FA like Javon Kinlaw for a year

Yeah, or seek out another trade for a guy with 1-2 years left on a rookie contract like we did with Jernigan.

I hope Howie keeps Baun, but I'm not super optimistic he will. I think the money goes to an extension for Cam, bringing back Becton and then we'll see. I have a sneaking suspicion they extend Nakobe and roll the dice on Trotter taking over for Baun, especially if the price is astronomical.

It isn't gadget.  Edelman was anything but a gadget player.  It is (1) change of pace at RB, (2) occasional relief snaps for RB1, and an inccredibly proficient nose for the end zone.  Although I wouldn't think of RB2/3 as a "leader" of any team, his contribution to culture can't be underestimated.

I’m just thinking of the role he could play that would be worth a draft pick and roster spot. I just don’t think he adds enough to the team to justify a roster spot, especially if Gainwell comes back.

If Gainwell walks, then maybe he could be RB4 with a rookie in the first 3 rounds as RB2 and Shipley as the big play/pass catching guy.

Two time and possibly three time MVP Lamar Jackson might disagree.  In fact, the two leading QBs in the MVP this year might disagree with that.  Frankly, the  "traditional” way came about because of a fear of injury to QBs from running.  Designed runs for the QB have been part of just about every type of college offense design for the entire 6+ decades that I have been watching football.

Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are just on another level though. Jackson can make anyone in the NFL miss at any given time. Jalen Hurts can't even beat a DE to the edge anymore. Josh Allen is just a freak. He's what everyone thought Carson Wentz could have been. 6-5 240 and can run you over.

The Eagles call far too many QB runs for what Hurts has to offer. He's great up the middle but terrible at getting to the edge. They seem to try to get him on the edge more often than not though. Back to the video I posted this morning showing his TD runs. He had some incredible called QB runs. A lot were QB draws out of the shotgun and a few others were RPOs that he read right and took off up the middle.

I don't necessarily think that is the motivation.  I suspect it is more like the Becton signing, which wasn't an indictment of Steen, but rather an opportunity for an upside play.

Yes.  This is Howie dumpster diving.  Loves a good deal.

Kurt Warner should not be in the HOF, though.  Sometimes the selection committee gets it wrong.  The guy had two excellent seasons with the Rams and two pretty good seasons with the Cardinals.  That's it.

His story got him in, which shouldn't be the criteria, but .....

His comeback from his hand issue is pretty phenomenal.  Also, is HOF enshrinement really a hallmark?  The bar is pretty low and it’s voted on entirely by media hacks.  Philly is represented by Domowitch.  Sal Pal is an at large vote.  Most of the "writers” aren’t even that anymore, they are broadcasters and columnists for e magazines and podcasters.  The criteria? (Per the HOF’s own site):

"Any fan may nominate any qualified person who has been connected with pro football in any capacity simply by writing to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The only restriction is that a player and coach must have last played or coached at least five seasons before he can be considered, and players must have received at least one generally recognized postseason honor. (All-Pro team, Pro Bowl invitation, annual award from The Associated Press, as examples.) A candidate for the 2025 class must have concluded his career not later than the 2019 season.”

Blog ought to identify an obscure player that made one pro bowl (think Huntley last year, for example) and nominate that person by writing the HOF.   So is there a retired player that retired more than five years ago and made a pro bowl once for the Eagles.  Somebody like Reno Mahe comes to mind.  That’s right, Reno Mahe qualifies for the HOF based on their own written criteria. Much harder to make @Connecticut Eagle’s criteria than to make it into the HOF.

My bet is Williams is the odd guy out when Howie prioritizes Becton and Baun.  Williams may end up being a great player but hard to tell at this point given the huge advantage he gets being next to Carter.  I bet Howie will end up thinking he can find another DT who can succeed next to Carter and spend the money elsewhere.

Your bet is an interesting one.  It makes a lot of "Howie sense."

Carter, Davis, Ojomo, Booker + a draft pick works nicely. I am excited to see Ojomo get more snaps and develop.

Same. Loved Ojomo when we drafted him and think he can be a high quality rotational player.

If they sign Becton and Baun, the offseason agenda is pretty clear. On defense:

  • Get an elite pass rusher
  • Replace Williams
  • Slay/Rodgers/Ringo

On offense:

  • Succession plan at TE.
  • Who is the swing tackle?
  • #2 QB
  • #2 RB

I didn't say it was devoid of talent.  I just think you are overstating Ben Johnson's impact.  He is coaching a very talented offense with elite skill players and elite o-line.  He may be a historic talent at OC.  Mike Martz had 3 seasons of the number 1 scoring offense in the NFL.  He wasn't that great when he didn't have the talent.

And having a great offensive mind doesn't always translate into being a great head coach. You'd think we should know better after Chip Kelly, but here we are calling for Sirianni's head because he doesn't call plays.

Having said that, I believe Ben Johnson could be a great HC, but we don't really know.

OK, seeing the picture in this tweet, along with the Milton Williams chatter has me thinking.

Trade for Devonte Wyatt.

Yeah, I’m a little worried about Baun, BUT, I do think that one of Howie’s best qualities is he actually does learn from mistakes.

At this point I think he’s learned that you need some quality at LB. Now will he make Baun the highest paid LB in the NFL? I doubt it. But I think if the money is reasonable there is a decent chance we keep him.

I will say that I don’t think we’ll leave it to Trotter if Baun does leave. There are a LOT of good mid round LB prospects this year. Guys with athleticism, size and versatility. Fangio’s defense is built around LBs, so I’d expect us to go after one regardless.

Now I just need Treylon Burks for a bag a chips to complete my 2022 draft bingo.

I wanted Howie to sign him earlier this season, but it didn't happen.  Glad to see it happen now.

I liked him coming out of college.  I wonder why they added him to the roster now.

Let's get the old band back together in 2025 on a discount. Reddick and Hargrave on the cheap to go for rings.

On defense, I’d add a quality LB prospect. The defense is reliant on the position and so vulnerable to injury. I like Trotter and BvS, but I want depth in case Dean has the injury bug again.

Plus you need a second option in case Dean leaves in free agency.

The only hurdle in your scenario assuming you mean let Sweat and Williams walk is it will be hard to get an elite pass rusher while protecting the potential comp picks. Might have to swing a trade there.

Given his commitment to active duty service after he graduates from West Point, I don't think many ... if any ... teams will have a lot of interest in him.  That will be doubly true because he will never be a QB in the NFL.  Position switches are seldom successful.  I just love his attitude, skills, and production.

As was said earlier by @LeanMeanGM is seems like a 2025 move.

By "get" I meant "draft".  And probably shouldn't have used "elite".

The draft boards I look at have several edge guys with late-first and second round grades.

For me #2 QB is clearly McKee.  The question is what can be done with Pickett.  Can Howie find him a home with another team?  The rest of your list I agree with.
