Agree, but if you score quick you can make the decision to kick deep and hope for the best.  Obviously that didn’t happen and now the onside absolutely has to happen.

The score quick option really only works if you can work the middle of the field. 

 

They got the first score... but now it took so long that it would take a true miracle finish for the Lions to win.  They'd still be 60 yards from the end zone if they get the onside kick.

Goff was a hair off on his first throw.  A nice chunk play there with the 2 min warning in the pocket allows them to play the sidelines down the field.  Since that wasn’t completed it was basically over.
