I’d still play all the backups next week even with him near the record. To maximize his chances they’d need to play the entire starting unit and that would just be dumb.

That's what I meant, the team defense overall, they've been the league's top defense. Huff hasn't met expectations, to state the obvious. Smith has improved. Hunt has shown some things. The way the roster is stacked, they'll be able to add a DE in the draft with a high pick, not sure what will be there in free agency. But they'll be able to add there and continue to build.
