Aside from a few minutes of the Drake-TT game, I haven’t watched any college basketball… who should I be excited about the 6ers taking at 5 and why?

Watch the Purdue v eventual winner University of Houston.  U of H or UH (damn rainbow team thinks they are UH). That’s going to be a matchup of two disciplined teams that play great D.

Now obviously, to get selected by this 6ers team, a player must be a medical reach. So when scouting players, look for the Red Cross by their name.

Thinking business, not with your heart- What do you think happens with this AJ Brown contract? Plays it out? Re-structure? Eagles use their out after 2025 season at age 29?

Isn’t the out in 2027?

How much do you think we’d get in return if we traded Hurts?

McKee would have taken us to the promise land last season.

How about you stick to fishing for trouser trout!!

Was listening to ESPN radio this morning and Chris Canty said if there was an NFL coaching draft, Tomlin would be top 3.

I seriously hope Sirianni gets that much love 15 years from now, even if he doesn't really accomplish anything.

That said, if there was a draft this off-season for head coaches, who are your top 10 picks?

Reid, John Harbaugh, McVay, Sirianni, O'Connell, LaFleur, McDermott, Ryans, Stefanski, Jim Harbaugh

I leaned toward including Carroll and Quinn ahead of McDermott and Jim Harbaugh, but we'll see how the Raiders and Bills fare next season.

Why would they take a $49 million dead cap hit for him after 2025? I don't think he's going anywhere after next season.  He is getting under his market value at his cap number through 2028.  I think there is a question about whether to extend/restructure his deal after 2026.

Which of those would you be excited to see on the Board when the Eagles are picking?

BTW, You don’t have Jhaad Campbell on that list.  Wa that an oversight, or intentional.

Intentional, Campbell's a good ball of clay but he's still a bit lacking in play recognition and coverage IMO - also I think he's more appealing in certain schemes where he can be a hybrid player which in itself is a bit of a projection.

Jalon Walker, it would be the redux of the Nolan Smith euphoria.

I think I'm finally settling on my draft crush and he's been discussed a lot.

Walter Nolen. He's a better version than Milton Williams. Pairing him with Carter would be a nightmare for opposing teams.

People complain about Nolen's lack of effort against the run, but I didn't see one play on that eight minute video where it looked like he took a play off.  Granted it wasn't every play in his entire career, but if Vic thinks he is a gamer then I am all for it.  He looks like a little smaller version of Carter.  A real animal.  Those two next to each other would be hell on the opposing OL.

I hope Blackmon pays the Eagles a visit after the Panthers. Team needs another safety.

I think realistically he is here through the 2027 season, and then you make a decision. His full $29 million of 2026 comp is guaranteed as of 3/14/25, so I'd be stunned if they moved on after 2025 and took that hit for around $90mm. In 2027 his roster bonus is only $19.45mm, and his total cash is only $21mm. So if he is still productive, that's a bargain. His 2028 and 2029 cash due is $32mm and $31mm, and none of that is guaranteed. He'll either be cut or extended after 2027, IMO.

To add to the above, only $4mm of AJ's 2027 comp will be guaranteed if he is on the roster on the 3rd day of the 2026 league year (he will be). I'd expect AJ and his agent may force the issue looking for a new deal after 2026. Hopefully you can guarantee 2027 and maybe keep him with a small pay bump. If not, they will either have to extend him or trade him after 2026.

All players are rated on a scale of what they cost. He was an absolute bust at a cost of 2 first round picks. He crippled the franchise like getting a Keith Byars RB at #10 overall who can't run (yes, the line was also bad but he could not run in Miami either) and a Michael Haddix at 8th overall who was even worse and not a good H-back.

Antone was probably in that 20th or so best at his position. He needed to be a star at that draft capital spend.

Question for the experts that would know this stuff about the draft. You always hear before the draft whether it's deep in a certain position, whether it's a strong or weak draft overall, that the top of the draft isn't that great and the real value is in rounds 2 or 3, that there's a drop off in talent after the top 10 or so and the rest of the 1st round is essentially all the same, stuff like that.

Has anyone done analysis (I'm not gonna Google it, too busy/lazy) after the fact even years later to look back to see if the pre-draft assessments were true? I've seen this for individual players but not the themes of the entire draft overall. Like a certain year is supposed to be deep at a position and then 3 years later they look at their production in the NFL and find out how many of the players at that position are proving that it was a deep talented draft or not?

Well, there is a lot that goes into draft evaluation.  Top talent also tends to mean ability that will transcend scheme.  Not sure there are many players in the top of this year’s draft.  Even Carter may not fit every defense but he seems pretty close.  Thing is that the media experts over focus on QBs because that is the most important position on the team.  After that it tends to be edge, OT, WR and CB (the latter two also bust more than any position).  There are no QBs, OTs, WRs that fit the can’t miss moniker and the best edge is probably Carter but even he isn’t a guaranteed success.  Hunter is a Big12 CB and they have a bad habit of flaming out in the NFL.  That said, there is decent depth of some potentially solid starters this year.  But there is no player in the draft this year that screams AllPro for me. But the third day after the fifth, I doubt there are many sleepers.  But note, go to BigEd76 thread in the NFL Draft section of the EMB and note all the round five level players that the Eagles have confirmed contact with.  Howie’s team and coaches doing their due diligence.

I think Howie made good use of his sixth and seventh round picks this year.  Arguably we got Pickett for a 22 pick decrease from the third round pick last year and he parlayed that into a move in the opposite direction next year for DTR plus a fifth. So one year rental of Pickett for 22 slots and a couple of 2025 sevenths that netted the Eagles a 2025 fifth and DTR.

Plus if some player drops, Howie has assets to pursue but I suspect he is quite satisfied with seven picks this year.   Now draft rankings and projections are a crap shoot but I would say the strength of this year’s draft is not bad for the Eagles.  There are some decent depth ILBs in the mid rounds (3-5), some decent depth at OLB/Edge, decent depth at S (never really large) and CB although I thought the top of the CB depth was better last year and real good depth at DT.   I kind of like the back up level OL this year but worry they will be over drafted due to the lack of stellar OL this year.

I don't know if hands really get better...

Arian Smith, a wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, has a significant drop rate, with a 27.3% drop rate in 2022, and he led the nation with 10 drops in 2024

Crazy.

Ed Kracz has his 2nd mock out. This is his proposal for pick 32. I've read this 10 times and still don't see how this benefits the Eagles.

32, 96, 161, 164 and a 2025 5th for pick 40 and 71.

The draft value chart has the Eagles 2025 draft picks equaling 759 + whatever a 2026 5th is for the Saints picks that equal 735

Eagles send this pick and the first two of their four fifth-round picks, No. 161 and 164 overall to New Orleans - (the Saints don’t have a fifth-round pick) – and a fifth-round pick next year. Philly receives New Orleans’ second-round pick (No. 40 overall). The teams swap third-round picks, with the Eagles getting the 71st overall pick; the Saints get the Eagles’ No. 96 pick.

With that said, the Eagles may not be crazy to draft Trey Harris this year.

I'm fine with paying him a lot of money through his age 32 season. But I'm not sure the team will been willing to give him a raise.

If he chooses to force the issue, I can see a trade happening at that point.

His contract is one of those not easily explained. If Spotrac is correct, $29M of his 2026 salary guaranteed a week ago, so he’s not getting cut. His 2027 bonus is rather low at $19M for the year. If he’s still performing at moderately high level I see them being fine with that. I wouldn’t count on anything past 2027 as currently constructed. He’d probably have to restructure/take a paycut to stick around because I don’t see them paying $30M in both his 31 and 32 age seasons.
