Wonder what team will actually have Hunter play both sides. It's a bad idea IMO

My best guess is that most teams will have him play corner, and then on offense he will have a Deion Sanders type role. You use him on specific plays, but he’s not out there getting 40+ snaps per game.

As I see it, the NIL and transfer portals may ruin college football for some, but the draft is an NFL event. Not a college football event.

Those things happening in college football have ripple effects on the draft, but the draft will always be great. And you dont have to follow college football to be a huge draft nerd.

For most of us, the draft will never change. It’ll be that period of excitement where we can explore prospects…brag when we got things right. Stick our heads in the sand and pretend we didn’t tout anyone when we were wrong. I’ll forever love it, i just worry about the overall talent pool being further diluted. The ruining of CFB has had an effect on me in that i give zero f’s about digging into drafts like I used to. Now it’s more of I check out prospects after we draft them.

For all this ‘the draft is ruined’ ‘NIL killed the NCAA’ talk (hyperbole)…we can finally put COVID’s impact on the draft to rest after this year right? I think Slough is the last of that era?

yes this is the final year for that covid extra year of eligibility. So while NIL may incentivize some players to stay in college longer, the 6th year, players are now a thing of the past. And you wont see as many 5th year guys either.

The transfer portal on the other hand enhances the draft experience for fans, and provides an additional challenge for scouts.

We have players who transfer from one school to the next and look completely different. Now you have to decide which version of that player you believe you are getting. Nic Sourton is a great example of this. 2023, as an 18-19 year old, hes a top 10 pick. After a year at Mississippi State, now people dont want the eagles to take him without a trade down.

I think we will be drafting a top 10 talent at 32 if he is the pick.

Scouts have to watch that film and figure it out. And they also have more teams to call when digging in to a players character. He played at 2 schools, so now you have to check with 2 coaching staffs, cafeteria workers, etc. More work. Added challenge.

Today's rumors:

Rams trying to move up for a TE. Loveland would be nasty in that dome and in that offense.

Browns trying to trade back into the first round for a QB(Howie?)

Giants taking Carter seems like a lock(ugh) but Mara could intervene and force a QB.

NIL has ruined it

Not any more than ridiculous contracts for head coaches. That said, NIL really hasn’t impacted a lot of players. The average for an athlete in a major college program is less than $10k. The game hasn’t changed that much with NIL. Loosening the transfer portal has had a greater impact. But we are on the verge of a House settlement and word is that is comes with a $20.5 million NIL cap which should even the playing field. Personally, I would much rather watch college basketball than the NBA. I still enjoy college football a lot. Through replays and DVR, I still watch a lot of college games. If the NCAA offered a version of NFL ticket, I would probably subscribe. I love the condensed games. (Just the plays, which is how ai watch most games these days. I really despise modern "announcers” and the "color” guys are universally bad. Mute and fast forward is the only way to watch nowadays.). The NCAA is really missing the boat. How nice an archival group of All 22 would be for college ball. I can’t believe they haven’t figured out a way to monetize that.

The Draft Network has a new mock draft machine. Its free. Theirs used to be the best. Im running through one now.

I don’t even really know the players this year and I’m still as excited as ever! The NFL draft is the single most exciting event for me every calendar year.

Charlie Garner (not to be confused with Charlie Gardner).

The Browns would do that, just to get year 5? They pick 33 and would get the QB they want because the Eagles aren't drafting one. What would they offer to get a 5th year but also have to pay a rookie rnd 1 instead of rnd 2 salary? It's a naive question but I don't see them giving much for it. The Giants, on the other hand, if there is a QB on the board and they want to jump over the Browns, that's some good leverage.

If we could get #33 and #104 from the Browns for #32, in exchange for not making a trade with someone else who wants a QB, that would be absolutely perfect.

Well the TDN mock draft game is back, but a little broken. Here is my draft, and some of the UDFAs. Got Loveland at the end of round 2. A little tough on DL positions. LB rankings seem messed up. Got Lundt later than I believe he will be available.

Bunch of draftable UDFAs.

The bigger issue is that OTHER teams might also try to trade up ahead of the Browns to take the QB they want out from under them.

The Eagles pick at 32 and the Browns at 33. Would the Giants, Steelers, or some other team make that move for Dart? If so, would the Browns pay a premium to guarantee they get their guy?

I wouldn't be shocked if the Steelers stick at 21 and just take Dart there.

Milroe is going to be a huge factor in anyone deciding to trade back up to 32 with us. Raiders and Saints could definitely use a guy to stash for a while, and they'll definitely have to get up in front of Cleveland and New York to do it. I feel like they'd be the most willing to give up a decent haul for 32 more than anyone else.

That makes a lot of sense, and represents a different reading of @Know Life’s comment than I had. I was clearly biased in my take because I have always found "the filling” of the Draft pastry to be different from year to year. But your assessment eliminates my bias and probably is closer to what @Know Life and @ToastJenkins were thinking. Good conversation.

With that cleared up, I do think the discussion of the Draft over the past two months has been both broader and deeper and more active than in recent years. That may again be my bias speaking. What is the sense of the Blog on that take of mine?

Some are still doing the work and sharing it in here. Back in the day when Goeagles99 (Tommy) was around, a lot of these conversations were held in the NFL Draft section.

Ben Allbright has them taking Shemar Stewart. He's one of the guys I'm totally out on. I don't like guys who don't produce.

Harold Jackson.

Yeah you could add him as well. I’d love to get Hancock with a trade up in the 4th and Frazier with one of our 4 fifth round picks.

Figure Hancock can challenge from day one with Ringo, but he’s also versatile enough to be the primary backup at both boundary and nickel corner.

Frazier to me is the most intriguing developmental prospect at CB. He’s got everything physically and is an excellent tackler.

Get those two in here and I think we can let Ringo walk and still have excellent depth by the time that happens.

Isn’t Hancock a Safety?

@FranklinFldEBUpper please continue with your countdown to the Draft with player numbers. @NYEagle’s compliant is flat out annoying.

How can he be annoying if he's compliant?

Agreed, that was where the old conversations were, but I don’t remember them being any livelier or informative than this year’s.

Lots of mutual sharing going on here. The video pieces are much better and more numerous now, which makes sharing much easier.

#33 and #94 would be preferable so that Howie could leverage those two late Day Two picks.

33 is a pretty valuable pick. I wouldn't be shocked if he turned that into even more. My money is on him going the other way, though.
