In catching up on the blog, I see some of you enjoyed laughing at the Chiefs fans forum.

I made excellent use of my time today going through Chiefs Planet and laughing at their cocky pre-game posts, going through the 5 stages of grief during the game, and the coping after. One guy actually wrote a song to help him cope.

I made a thread to copy the highlights and summarized their GDT experience.

Thread in ATNFL:

Chiefs fan forum: from overconfidence to coping

Also their mods ban their own fans for being too negative, and have a separate forum (the "cowards list") for fans that give up on the team too early.

Aren’t we finding Patullo guilty before proven innocent?  Isn’t the law of the land innocent until proven guilty.

If you read my post... no verdict was given.

No verdict on Patullo but all recent internal promotions have not worked and seemingly having Sirriani less involved was a good thing and seemingly this gets him more involved. And Patullo has never called plays on any level in a game.  We don’t know what will happen but I wouldn’t bet on a great result

He does a really good job with the details of the pictures that he does. For Barkley, his signature is always super expensive. I was told for game worn  jerseys before he was close to breaking the record and with the giants he was charging anywhere from 20-35K.

Also, the reason why that hurdle vs jags photograph hasn’t been sold with his signature is because they were going to have a signing for that. But there were issues with the compensation he would get and the signing fell through

Wow.  I actually saw during the signing event coming up they said he won't sign any hurdle pics. I wondered why

I want to say it was with Dynasty sports he had a signing set up. And he was supposed to sign the hurdle pictures. And then it fell through for what I said and then they had a refund everybody or you could get a different picture signed by Saquon.

So ... Brian Johnson.

We've had one internal promotion under Sirianni. Two if you count Fangio (Consultant 2022). Personally, I count Fangio and that worked out pretty well, I think. He's probably the reason Gannon got a HC gig in the 1st place. The irony is he would have replaced Gannon  in 2023 if Gannon wouldn't have deceived the Eagles and gone to the Cardinals without warning. By the time it was announced, Fangio had already agreed to be the Dolphins DC.

From what I’ve seen he’s too stiff to be an every day player IMO, but I’d love to be wrong.

Awesome.

I had an opportunity to get my Barkley painting signed before it ships out. They wanted $469 for the autograph on top of the price of the picture. I passed.

I already saw a different signing where you can send stuff in, and it would cost like $300. Not doing that either, but still, the offer was a ripoff.

Anyway, I now have these two first edition prints
from this season- each with excellent detail if you take a close look, that really helps retell the story of our post-season run. I love them.

I like the Hurts image a lot more. It's weird, but as great as the Barkley touchdown was, for some reason it gets downgraded for me as iconic moment since what happened afterwards almost negated it. The Rams scored almost immediately and damn near won the game in the final minute.

In a way, it's almost like the 4th and 26 game for me. I loved it at the time, but the memory is kinda tarnished since we lost the next week.

Thanks for that referral.  Good stuff.  I’ve added one to @FranklinFldEBUpper’s Special Teams Blog thread.

Two thoughts …

(1) I purposely chose the pronoun "we” rather than "you”. Your comment which I quoted did not stand alone, but was part of a collectively woven fabric.

(2) If Siskel and Ebert said "I’m not excited about it, at all” at the end of one of their movie reviews, would their readers have considered that a verdict?

I've been watching that guy for a couple of years now. He used to do ST exclusively but he's starting branching out a bit.

Tommy offers a different perspective here.

I don’t if it’s that different. He goes into Patullo’s background and how it’s different from Brian Johnson’s. He actually says Patullo was part of top 10 offenses as a plus and counts 2023 but in a different breath says Brian Johnson wasn’t ready.

Anyway comes down to play calling. I’d like to see one more vet voice in there too. Right now you’ve subtracted Kellen Moore and Nussmeier and added just Parks Frazier. Hard to argue that’s better.  I suspect they’ll add someone at some point

One of the Patullo videos that Tommy included in his Igglesbiltz article

So much of that, IMO, was Sirianni’s hubris with not changing things and instead leaning into what they already did well. Surely he learned his lesson.

I think it was also about Hurts' comfort level, he has had a difference OC every year of his college/pro career. Nor was Johnson as bad as advertised:

2022:  477 points, 6614 yards (2 defense/ST TDs)  68.3 QBR

2023:  433 points, 6024 yards (3 defense/ST TDs)  60.1 QBR

2024:  443 points, 5939 yards (16 games) (1 defense/ST TDs) 65.6 QBR

Patullo has never been a position coach for more than 2 years, got demoted (ahem, "reassigned”) for Mike Groh. So much of his career was just kinda "helping out” Chan Gailey and Nick Sirianni.

To be fair, Sirianni’s resume wasn’t exactly great coming in as HC, but it’s pretty established that he needs above average coordinators. To hire an OC with such a mediocre at best resume… I don’t get it, at least from Howie’s perspective.

Back in December @Ace Nova posted the controversial comment linked below.  He got a lot of push back like the linked comment from @vikas83  It looks like the Cap will fall about midway (plus or minus) between those $286 million and $273 million numbers

Their job was to give movies a thumbs up or down.  So they didn't stop at a lack of excitement.  They gave their opinion about a movie.  But they couldn't stop a movie release nor could they stop people from going to see it, so it's not a verdict, just opinions.

Equally, fans have every right to an opinion about a move made by their team.  That is what this space is for.  We share our opinions about it, and my particular opinion was that I wouldn't complain about it, but that I don't have excitement for it.  And I don't have to be excited about it.  At the same time declaring a lack of excitement about something isn't condemnation either.

Many days I am not excited to go to work, and yet I get up and go even on those days.  No condemnation, just an emotion, or lack there of.

Others have been much more negative about this move, and they too have that same right to have an emotion and opinion about it.  This isn't a court of law, this is a space to share opinions and emotions,  as well as to share breakdowns and other things.  It's what we've done for decades here.

Many folks were upset when the Eagles drafted Reagor over Jefferson, and shared that opinion.  It wasn't a verdict, but an opinion... turned out those of us with that opinion in the very moment were right and the Eagles were wrong.  Other times fans have had negative opinions about a draft pick, and were wrong, such as the moment Hurts was selected in the 2nd round of the 2020 draft.  Either way its not a verdict, nor is it wrong for the fans to have opinions.  If it is, we should just go ahead and shut this place down.

One thing I love about that pic is that he captured all of the other individual moments of the other players as well.  Hurts standing in the backfield with his hands up signaling TD. Lane Johnson just walking off the field while Barkley is still running knowing he is scoring. Barkley's celebration and Smith ruining asking with him.

And a couple rams players just laid out on the turf.

Calc doing a penguine slide in the snow.

It captures the football in the snow asthetic really well. And most of all, reminds me how much fun it was being at that game.

That's fair.  I feel the same way about Sheldon Brown's big hit on Reggie Bush in '06.  In the moment, I thought that was a sign of good things for the rest of the game, sort of like the Dawkins hit on Crumpler and Vick a few years before.  And then it all came crashing down.

But, the best part about that Barkley run... the Eagles did hold on to win, and now went on to win it all, which elevates it way above 4th and 26 where there was the eventual crushing defeat.   And way more iconic than the runs by Shady and Celek in the snow, because that season also ended in disappointment.

Seems like a "We didn’t learn anything from last time” type move but who am I to complain after they win a SB?

In 2022 we signed LB K. White and he fit well in our defense. In 2023 we signed Morrow and Cunningham and they didn't pan out. Last year we signed Baun and D. White. One huge hit, one huge miss.

Sometimes things work. Sometimes they don't. When the team has an opening, it needs to be filled. Where the person comes from is irrelevant.
