Ideally yeah you would want a chance at some other high end young tackle prospect but with the Eagles in dynasty mode they likely won't get a shot at one. Fred Johnson just 28. Could he be a quality relatively low cost option at RT for 4ish years if we say Lane retires after this year? Of course you take your chances over that same time to try to draft and develop a more maintain replacement but it doesn't become some target on your back obvious to everyone else need in a draft or something to try and force yourself into maneuvering a way to make it happen.A few of us threw this around earlier in the week. He could be the perfect stop gap between Lane Johnson and the RT of the future (if they find him). It feels like this could be Lane's last year and to your point, FJ is "young". He hasn't played a lot and will be 29 when next year starts. The more he's on the field, the better he can be as well. I can see the Eagles easily getting 3-4 years of good RT play out of him. It takes the pressure off of NEEDING to find a RT and let's them find the RT they want.
14 hours ago14 hr @mattwill I think/hope the 2nd half of the Rams game was the wake up call the passing game needed. If the OL can run block and they get a bit more creative with their play calling, Saquon is next. I think Sirianni finds some of his pep talk magic to help get over the Bucs hump and the Eagles wipe them.Eagles 38Bucs 13Kelee Ringo- INTWill Shipley- 50+ yard play
14 hours ago14 hr I suppose there must be some brand new research that I dont know about. Giving the eagles sports performance people the benefit of the doubt. But heat acclimatization takes 1-2 weeks. The upheaval in their regular schedule may have a larger effect (potentially negative), than the benefit (miniscule if any) they get from arriving in the Florida heat 1 day early. This looks like they are just masochists going to spend 1 extra day being super hot. Im completely with @LeanMeanGM on this. Theyre spending way too much time talking about this. Its taking focus away from football. And throwing off their usual formula that consistently wins. Hurts needs to remind them to keep the main thing the main thing.I guess there is an angle to consider where the players dont know the science behind it, and they believe that the team going a day early will actually help them. A potential placebo effect perhaps is what the team is hoping for? But that again seems like they are overthinking things.
14 hours ago14 hr Every single day in a new climate helps, so I don't mind their plan at all. And it's not like it's been extremely cold in Philadelphia, so they're not facing a 30 degree difference or anything. It's just a matter of preparation and they're on the road, it's more time together as a team.
13 hours ago13 hr Just looked at the forecast for Sunday: 89, cloudy, chance of rain with humidity around 60%. Having lived in Sarasaota for 5 years, that's a pleasant day. Don't see how the temp/weather will impact them that much. I was at the pickle juice game and that was ridiculous. Driving from Denver to Dallas, my AC kicked the bucket west of Amarillo.
13 hours ago13 hr It would not surprise me if Dickerson is put on IR after gutting out one final game tomorrow. That would give him six calendar weeks to rest before the GB game and should go a long way toward fixing some of the rushing issues as clearly Landon is not himself right now. This would be the perfect time to do it as the schedule finally lightens up a bit next week after a brutal start and with any luck he'd be ready to go for the tough post bye stretch and for the rest of the season.
13 hours ago13 hr Oregon v Penn State seems like the choice despite the start time. I’ll be watching safeties (Thieneman, Wheatley), offensive tackles (Worlds, Hankey, Shelton, Rucci), DE Dennis-Sutton and TE Sadiq.

He started out well but tapered off and was downright bad by his third game. Consider too that his salary is a pittance. Why, if he is that cheap, did we let him go in the first place? I don’t mean to knock him and I absolutely hope he holds up this time around, but past is prologue.

If teams are going to take a chance on a tackle, I'd assume they want someone younger. He is what he is. I just think he'd be more than serviceable at RT to bridge the gap while trying to find Lane's replacement.

This and going a day early makes it seem like all they are thinking about is the heat and none of this preparation will even matter.I would hope that it's just an added preparation based on lessons learned from the past and not a distraction or something they're overthinking. They tend to focus on preparation and being detail oriented so hopefully it's just part of being focused and trying to improve.

Saturday at 3:30 is the best for college. No one can tell me otherwise.

12 hours ago12 hr If (and when ha ha) they repeat as SB Champions I would guess Lane Johnson retires. Go out a 3 time SB champion. So they'll have this season to evaluate if Fred Johnson is ready to be a stop gap starter for a year or two, if a younger player is ready to take over (probably not), sign a free agent, trade, draft in the 1st round. A lot of decisions. Lane has been so great, you don't want a lot of drop off. I could see a veteran free agent or trading up for a top draft prospect. Unless Fred convinces them he can handle it. But I would think they'd still draft someone to develop regardless.
12 hours ago12 hr I get the Fred Johnson love, but didn't they just draft two project T this year in Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams?I imagine that if Lane retires, one of them will fill that position after a full season and offseason at Stoutland U.

I trust Stoutland U and they have been preparing for this. If nothing else if they need to, Howie will find a decent starting OT in free agency if nothing else works out.

Mailata needed two red shirt years and he wasn’t unlearning bad habits.

Found it wasn't and traded back to get Johnson. Lamm was better back in the day, but sadly was washed. Then Johnson saves the day last Sunday. Quite a script written. But I think there's an answer to the issue, the hows and the what fors. Pryor was always a better OG than OT. He just never had the feet for OT. He would get by inside mostly by brute strength. The Rams have a very talented group of athletic DL. Brute strength doesn't work against them, especially outside. That's not a good matchup for Pryor. So, then... why did it work with Johnson?I think Johnson's biggest Achilles heel is when teams prep to beat him. Thrown in, he can do enough to maintain, but when a team game plans to beat him, he's very beatable. I don't see him as a great stop gap starter for a season or two. I see him as a nice swing tackle to throw into a game, but not a guy you want teams looking at too closely heading into a game.Just my two cents.
