I agree with the bet that JD has his best football ahead of him. I'll let Howie worry about the money.

And a clear drop-off when he went out. Was noticeable. We need to work on our backups a bit.

Guy has stepped up bigtime in the last year and I’m glad he got a good deal like this.. if they give JC a big deal that’s awesome or even if they decide to trade him for a haul I’ll be happy with that also.

I trust Howie & the coaches about Carter. Great player. But if there are reasons we don't know about that make him a possibility to trade, I trust there are valid reasons. IF they were to trade him the issue would be the return. Better be worth it.

But I'd rather keep him and have a dominant line.

IMO the core that should be priority to keep are Davis, Carter, Mitchell & DeJean.

Frankly, if they trade Carter, it kind of feels like more worried about paying him his second contract and off the field. Maybe (just a theory) it even goes back to when they drafted him thinking were going to use him on his rookie contract then flip them to get as many picks back as possible if he hit. Maybe it is his shoulders they are concerned about and they don’t want to take that risk. However, if that’s the case, I’m guessing around league circles they hear the whispers and they’re gonna have the medicals to see what the eagles belief could happen. So you’re probably gonna get even less than what you think for him knowing that and needing to give him an extension.

Imo i still think Carter is extended. I’d be surprised if Carter, Q, DeJean and hunt aren’t all eventually extended when the time comes.

Yea. Really you can extend Carter either now or during the season. Next offseason you do DeJean and Hunt and the following year Q. AJ will more than likely be moved next offseason which will create cap space as well as Lane retiring. Not worried about the money really

I’d add hunt to those 4. His progress from what he was thought of when we drafted him to what he’s become in 2 years is mighty impressive. He should continue to get better.

Never really have to worry about the money with Howie. He plans years ahead.

I question how true the trade rumors really are. Maybe they were for Parsons but I doubt they were for Crosby. Carter wasn't even brought up last offseason with a possible Garrett trade. That would've made more sense than including him in a Crosby trade

I actually like a lot more players including Hunt. I want to keep them all. But if you had to choose you wouldn't choose Hunt over those 4.

I believe Howie said he doesn’t do extensions in the season anymore. I could be wrong but they were talking about it on the PHLY podcast a couple weeks back. So really if you don’t get Carter’s contract done this off-season it’s likely coming next off-season. Or you’re gonna wind up trading him. It is easy to say cash in on JC but you also have to replace him. I like Ojomo but i also don’t think he’s close to what Carter can bring to the defense when healthy.

Yup. You're going to get cheaper and younger on offense and move that money to the defensive side

The Parsons thing could have been Jerry asking, Howie said no.

He was huge in thr Super Bowl playoff run too but that never gets talked about. That is when I knew he was going to have a great 2025 season.

Even if they wait until next offseason, they have the 5th year option to help work something out

Jordan Davis' weight was an objective problem. He couldn't get it under control until this season. Credit to him for doing so, but people who battle weight and eating issues usually battle them for life.

I don't think Carter's work ethic is an issue and I don't think his character concerns are much of a concern at all. He's a little hot headed, but the worst thing he did was spit at a guy who spit in his general direction. If that's the worst thing you did as a player then I consider character issues overblown. Yeah he's had some moments where he talks trash. Know who else does? The damn head coach. Not exactly setting the best example for his players there. At least Carter on the field walks the walk when he talks the talk. I've never been all that concerned about Carter from a character perspective.

Carter also was benched for being late to meetings. The Georgia drag racing thing obviously was pretty terrible.

True. However, I don’t see the Eagles letting all their pass rushers walk away. If Phillips walks this off-season and they don’t pay Nolan Smith as they question his long term durability. I’d guarantee they’d pay hunt. They’re not letting all 3 of those guys walk out of the building and then have to go find multiple pass rusher replacements.

Bingo.

Last year was a down year for Carter and he dealt with those shoulder injuries. He'll come back healthy and dominant this year

Not a fan of that big ass contract

Yeah the line of demarcation for AJ and Barkley is 2027 and Barkley likely 2027 or 2028. Still think be heavy money invested into OL and hurts if he plays well going forward. But really likely next 2 years to have smith making big money at WR then cheaper options at Wr, TE and eventually RB

The unquestionable core on the defense.  Each one will be in the conversation for best at their position if they aren't already.

that's better

Don't worry about numbers with Howie.

He's a lock for several personal fouls in a season and is a suspension waiting happen. I worry about where his attitude goes after he gets paid.
