Is Goedert's representation trying to use the $20M cap hit as leverage? How much does Howie care? It would eventually have to hit our cap.

The only real issue I had last year was not keeping Rodgers who would have been cheap, and they tried to find corner help in a few ways. As vikas also replied to you about this, they could not afford to do more than they did. Lurie and Howie publicly said so. Expect people to leave, they're preparing to pay big extensions. At least they tried by doing things to address the problems. Getting Phillips helped at Edge.

Nitpicking the minor issues that didn't work well is a separate truth but not something to be that upset about. The defense actually played very well last year considering injuries too. The offense was the main problem. The roster was built to repeat and the offense ruined it.

I don't know about not doing more, that's up for debate. It's possible they could have made a bigger splash elsewhere if you undo all the smaller signings. Regardless, it's not about doing more, it's hitting on the moves you do make. And they did not. I don't think it's nitpicking to say their entire free agent class was a bust and it's why they had to give up several picks and extra money to players to supplement holes on the roster they had because their free agency was such a bust. It's ok to acknowledge this. You can think Howie is great and acknowledge last offseason was a bust.

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth

By the Pats signing Doubs they no longer have the pressure of needing to add AJ, that's pretty simple to see. Yes they can still make attempts and want to land AJ but they have insurance now, they can tell Howie no to his 1st and 2nd round demands.

That may be their plan but using Doubs as leverage should make Howie laugh. On top of that, the price they paid...

Absolutely. They have no reason to sign a deal on the teams terms when the team has the financial obligation looming over them.

If Howie cares, depends exactly what his plan is for the offseason.

They must really want rid of Geno

Howie can laugh all he wants, the Pats don't have to give up exactly what he wants. They're already not giving it up so now they definitely don't have to.

And lost another Eagle

They're going to have to trade AJ and Carter for like 10 picks in order to try to fill all the roster holes.

What are we thinking here? Comp 4?

Guess I could see Pryor not a fit for outside zone though.

If you had to choose between retaining stud defensive All-Pro players and dealing with some cheap signings as supplements that may not work out vs losing those stud core players because you spent money on mid-tier guys you would choose to keep the core All Pro guys.

The goal is to build through the draft, free agency is a supplement. If you choose to focus on only the negative things (a pattern), and consider last year a "bust" in free agency then that's your choice. The overall strategy of building through the draft and supplementing in free agency and trade won them a Super Bowl. The Seahawks are losing guys from their roster too. That happens when you are the best team and win a championship.

Good, take away the temptation for Howie to re-sign him.

Does anyone know the deadline for Goedert's contract to turn into a 20mil hit?
