Pick 23 signed for 4 years and $17.5 million last season. So a premium TE on a rookie contract is still a money saving deal. I think the question is whether they think there is a talent drop off after him in the draft. It's similar to the 2022 draft when the consensus was that there was a big drop off in talent after pick 14.

I know. But a player at a premium position would have the same exact rookie contract - which would be even more money-saving versus an open market price.

I don’t usually get personal on here, but your post hit me. I’ve been where you are. I’ve had a couple suicide attempts in my past and spent time in inpatient treatment afterward. I’m still in therap

Regarding Burke, most of the clips you'll see on the net show him going against smaller guys who, besides being smaller, aren't quicker either and don't have any moves at all. To me, he seems a tick slow out of his stance, looks easily turned by a guy with quickness, and absolutely cannot block in space. I think he's a terrible fit for the McVay/Shanahan stretch/OZ offense. He's big and strong but I don't see his shortcomings as being coachable to correct.

I've been wrong many many times before, though.

This is fine, but it’s overblown. Yeah the idea of positional value isn’t new. But you’re not going to seriously tell me that teams prefer Boye Mafe to Trey McBride, or their impact on the game is anywhere close.

Regarding AJ getting traded before June 1st being possible? Cap-wise it is. If someone gives Howie the right compensation he would do it. But I don't think anyone will do it, unless there were multiple bidders out there driving the price up and getting FOMO. Unfortunately, AJ kinda shidd da bed last year with his antics and his play. I had heard for a year or more here that trading AJ before June 1st in 2026, cap wise could not happen and was virtually impossible. And I had also heard he would have to be here on the roster for 2026 because of his huge dead cap hits.

How many times do we have to see Howie figure the cap management all out faster than anyone thinks. See Carson Wentz. Which is why I am Superbowl or bust each season and not really sweating out the cap like most of you. He will figure it out. Last offseason, everyone cried about not being able to sign long term: Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, Dean, Blankenship, etc. and then we miss out on players for today in the interim because of this thought process. You gotta take it 1 year a time and try to win THIS YEAR with football moves geared towards that mindset. The core indeed can change. Today, most could see us being just fine with losing all 4 (with Carter you would be likely be keeping Ojomo). They also can be traded before their contract lapses. There are options. If Howie was willing to take on Parsons and Justin Reid last year then the cap was not as huge of an issue as everyone originally thought. I am hyper focused on 2026, as I was last year on 2025. A totally wasted opportunity where there were no great teams out there. And Sam Darnold is a Superbowl Champion. 😄

And it definitely did not heal properly based on his 2025 season. Another coaching malpractice case by sirianni and his idiot sidekick, they should have forced him to sit until he was healthy. He was an absolute liability especially next to the other broken guy

I’m warming up to taking Sadiq if he’s there as well. Do I normally think a TE is worth a 1 rounder? No. But I love the idea of a guy who can block in-line and down the field, 4.3 speed, routes, YAC. Has the ability to affect every play.

I like him, but if I’m taking a TE in the first they need to be a perfect prospect. For TE that means 6’5”+ 255 lbs+ a great route runner with great college production in addition to the speed and athleticism. He doesn’t meet the threshold on any of those categories and there are a bunch of really good prospects you can get later in this draft.

Wonder if Nick talks with him

More correct might be, it had not healed completely by the time football began and playing at that stage did not help the recovery process. As with Landon, as he had surgery after TC. And Mailata wasn’t 100% either. I think what is telling is how much the tush push had a negative impact on their bodies. The push was almost always over Cam and Landon. Because of the early playoff exit, the OL and others have had a better chance to recover this year. That includes the skill players too.

The good news is Kendall is a year into training and looked good when we saw him. The bad news is a lack of G depth. The good news is this is a decent IOL draft.

Since someone is going to ask - Myles Garrett's contract if assumed by the Eagles. Cash on top, cap hits below. Guarantees run out after 2028, so show the dead cap of moving on in 2029 and 2030 offseason. Also assume the 2029 and 2030 Roster bonuses are converted to option/singing bonuses and spread out (irrelevant since they'll never be paid)

Though he hasn't requested a trade again I think?

The article makes it seem like Browns are now willing to

This post brought to you by the same guy complaining about long posts, repetitive talking points and says he's only here once in awhile... yet has been posting daily, with repetitive long posts about the same things.

2 can play that. Ha. Still much shorter. Your post yesterday about Jurgens takes the cake. That had to take up a huge chunk of your day. Hope they pay you. Your word count for the year has to be in the millions. I've chimed in on many issues, but the Howie offseason topic seems to trigger alot of people here because the truth hurts. I know.

Meanwhile Landon Dickerson keeping busy with home remodel projects and making TikToks. At least he's bending his knees when he lifts. He did slip in the snow. His wife posts all these thinking they're cute videos but most of the comments are fans telling Landon to not get hurt. 🤣

Howie needs a pretty huge splash move (Crosby or Garrett, and Greenard at worst) and a secondary follow up move to get this thing back on track. Doing fine with the dart throws as the appetizers. Now for the entree.... The draft alone will not save this deal.

Fair, and I generally agree. But I’ll add "can actually block” to your list of traits. I’ve grown way sour on TEs who can’t block. No interest

all this money movement by Howie is to bring in Garrett.

Here is how a lot of the top WRs in this class were utilized, as well as drop rates and stuff.

He's a year older but I'd still take him in a heartbeat

Yeah, delaying the payment of the option bonuses from now until September is what made this a topic. Frankly, there's ZERO reason for Garrett to agree to this other than to facilitate a trade. This allows Cleveland to avoid paying him $29.2 million until right before the season starts - had they paid that now, his dead cap hit would be that much higher and they would have been paying him to play elsewhere. He still has a NTC, but could obviously waive it.

The only rational reason for Myles to agree to this is to explore a trade. Otherwise he's just costing himself the interest he could make investing the $29.2 million for ~5 months.

The holdup with Greenard talks seem to be his contract demands with the new team. No one's willing to meet what he wants.

He's the one guy I'd give up multiple 1sts for. In my mind, there's a huge gap between Garrett and every other defensive player in the league.

If you want to play some 4D chess, they answer could be trying to ship AJ for picks after 6/1, and then use those picks + some of our own to get Garrett. It can work cap wise after 6/1 but not before.
