with the jets , bengals and jags winning so far , the eagles aren't out of the first pick race LOL . that would be sweet if the team wanted to trade down for a haul of picks

If the Eagles get the number 1 pick I’m staying put and taking Lawrence. That’s the only scenario where Wentz isn’t the QB next season.

Presumably a healthy scratch for JJAW

Hey everyone, I haven't been around much for the past month or so and I thought I should kind of explain (not that me not being on counts for much lol).

I haven't really wanted to make a big deal of it here on the boards, so I just haven't mentioned this to anyone, other than a couple of people, but the majority of my time has been devoted to taking care of my mother (just turned 84 in late November) who has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has been going through chemo. This isn't really a new thing, she was diagnosed in May of 2019, but the most recent round of chemo kind of hit her harder this time around.

But since I'm the only one of the family that lives within about 250 miles (the rest of the family lives in Maryland), I'm taking care of her. Add to all of that, this stupid pandemic that is deadly to people with lung issues, and you can well imagine that it's been doubly hard for these past 8 or 9 months.

Thinking back, if you all remember the day that Harold Carmichael was announced as being selected for the HOF, I was actually with her at the doctors office (she was getting chemo), when I got the notification that I was mentioned in the thread (by @EagleJoe8 if I recall correctly). So I sat in the waiting room watching all kinds of Harold Carmichael videos on my tablet. lol

All of this was part of the reason that I wasn't really willing to just let the EMB fade into "Internet history" when Dave made the announcement, back in April. Re-creating/re-building the EMB was a lot of work, but a welcomed 'distraction' from everything else. Even if it meant staying up working on it until 5 or 6 am for a couple of weeks (not that that's totally unusual lol).

So like I said, I haven't really wanted to make a big deal of it here on the boards and didn't feel that a new thread was needed (so I figured that this was a good place to post), but I did feel like I sort of owed the board an explanation for my recent absence. I have tried to keep tabs on everything, in case there's a technical sort of issue, though.

And a traded 4th round pick as well.  Just great.  Thanks, Howie.

I bet if we ran the ball 20+ times we score 20+ points(crazy) and still lose by 20+ points.  Ughh

Prayers with you and your mom. If you need anything from us on the board don’t hesitate to ask us.

true , i think the team ends up with the 4th pick , maybe #3

@VaBeach_Eagle

Sorry to hear that.  Best wishes for you and your family.  I lost one parent to cancer and the other is a survivor from it.  Thanks again for keeping the EMB alive.

Hey man, I wish you and mom well. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer just before Thanksgiving last year. When I visited for the holidays last year, I took her to her first immunotherapy session, but unfortunately, those treatments weren't helpful, and she has been doing chemo for several months now.

Good luck to you both.

Justin Jefferson running by defenses even though he is a slow slot receiver.

My mother did chemo for 5 months of 2019, then immunotherapy from October to... I think May of this year and it worked well for a while, but then had to go back on chemo around mid-May. Everything's 'stable' right now, which is good. But at 84, chemo is hard on her. It's hard on anyone, I suppose. But at 84, even more so. Plus, with the pandemic, no family can even come visit. So that makes it that much harder, at least on those that can't visit.

It's nice to get schemed up TDs. Wish we could do that.

Yeah that's the worst part. My sister lives near my mom, but she works in a Dr's office, so she's probably exposed to a lot of this, and has to be very very careful near my mom.

Its not just scheme, pays to have good route running skills, footwork and technique skills. Not to mention great hands. The 2 things i said I wanted in our pick. Good route running and hands. Nope we went with the Madden logic of speed, lol.

Passing on Jefferson is going to haunt us for a  long time

1 year ago: it doesn’t matter that Avery is inactive; they traded for him to be an impact player next year.

Yup. The Eagles always have to be so specific about their picks. In 2019, it had to be a slow contested catch WR and this year it had to be a burner with no WR skills. They force things too much in the draft. Take the best players.

Take your time and be with your family

You know what’s worse than being a horrible drafter who can’t identify talent?

Being the guy in charge, wanting the right guy, and letting your assistants dictate the wrong pick.

Thats the narrative Howie’s camp has pushed in the past and will push this offseason...but that (likely false) narrative is even worse.

Also...am I to believe that the guy who has specialized in winning organizational power struggles and undermining his FO colleagues is letting the rest of the scouting department and coaches just walk all over him and dictate the selections?

Thanks, I've sort of kind of felt bad... or a little 'self-conscience' (not really the right word, but you get my meaning), like I've 'neglected' things here (though I also know that the board will run just fine whether I log in or not lol). So I just kind of thought I should explain.

To someone who's never been part of an internet 'community', they may not understand this, but the EMB is a sort of 'extended family'. I don't tend to watch Eagles games with my real family, I like to watch alone. But for nearly 20 years, I've watched Eagles games with my EMB family and can't imagine not doing so! The Super Bowl victory would have been special either way, but it was even more so special, watching it while being on the EMB and posting. That's why I tried so hard to get the old EMBs database... I wasn't willing to let the Super Bowl thread just vanish! lol I made sure that not only was it archived on Archive.org, but I made a personal archive of it (which is linked in a thread in 411, I think). Again, some may see that as being 'silly', but it was important to me.

Thanks again for the prayers. It is appreciated.

Hope your mom recovers well, sometimes people forget the toll cancer takes on the caregiver as well, take care of your self.

I've essentially been inside my house since early March, with a few exceptions like taking her to the doctor or going to the grocery store (for contactless, curbside pickup) or things like that.

What’s passing on Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase in back-to-back years going to do?
