Carson Wentz discussion: no new topics about Wentz.

Dude wants out. Nothing good will come from this dude staying.

Well there are 2 "reports" out there that people believe, despite them contradicting each other:

1. Carson wants to be traded because he doesn't want to be a backup or compete to be the starter.

2. Doug was fired because Wentz wouldn't work with him and/or Doug wanted Hurts to be the starter.  The organization chose Wentz over Doug and hired Sirianni with the purpose of fixing Wentz and keeping their investment in Wentz.

So which is it?

They fired Doug and chose Wentz and want Siri to fix him and make him the starter...but Wentz STILL wants out?  None of this adds up.  So which "reports" all from speculation, guesses, unnamed sources do people believe?

Neither? Until something happens it is just noise that is getting people riled up to make more money for reports and news agencies.

Why can't it be both? Why can't it be that Wentz doesn't want to play for Doug and Howie?  They got rid of Doug but kept Howie.  Howie is the one who kept Foles a year too long and drafted Hurts in the 2nd round meanwhile watching WRs like Diggs and Hopkins get traded while the Eagles instead relied solely on Roseman's great eye for college WRs in the draft.

I’m with @RememberTheKoy on this one. I think he wants out, but that doesn’t mean the Eagles want to let him go, and I believe they’re doing everything in their power short of dumping Howie to keep him. Howie created this mess, yet somehow he keeps escaping the chopping block.

Right.  But people believe them, and some people seem to believe both.  I'm asking those who believe these reports why they believe them, which they believe and why?  Which "report" is more credible than the other, because they contradict each other.

Look how these "reports" get spun.  Schefter says it's his "guess."  Other sites then report that like it's fact.

Bottom line is the Eagles have two quarterbacks (which really means they have none) and one guy is doing interviews and letting us know he’s working to get better while the other guy is hunting ducks after a year throwing a bunch of ducks. Nevertheless his apologists are still kissing the bean bag.

You know who could have easily have ended all of this speculation? Here’s a hint. He wears number 11, but instead he’d rather just blow it off. I guess he doesn’t care what Philly thinks of him. He better have some thick skin when he goes back out there.

And that's the thing with this whole spectacle: Philly is not a good place to play if you are sensitive and the fans are passionate about the team and what goes on. This is the wrong place to be acting the way he is.....it just doesn't work here

He better win, and he better play well or he’s going to be killed in the media and booed out of the stadium if there are fans in there.

Your preaching to the Wentz hater hotline in this threat. Common sense does not exist here.

To be fair, Jalen Hurts was doing a SB week interview sponsored by Oikos Greek Yogurt around a charity event and they used the opportunity to ask him about his situation in Philly.  You make it sound like he's out there doing a media tour talking himself up to be the QB.  He gave typical PC answers, going to work hard, etc. nothing controversial, nothing to indicate anything.

We've been over this.  Carson could say something and he would be criticized - or not believed anyway.  Look at his options:

1. I did not ask for a trade, I want to be here:  then if he changes his mind after meeting with the coaches, seeing how things are going, might later ask for a trade.  So he's criticized for his statement.

2. I did ask for a trade, I don't want to be here: no one would expect him to say that at this point so that's unrealistic.

3. A PC answer that says he's focused on getting better, doing what's best for the team and excited to work with the new coaches and compete:  would leave it open and not specific and people would not change their minds.

It's pointless.  We just have to see what happens.

We we DO know:

  • Carson hasn't said it, it hasn't come from his agent or anyone associated with him.
  • The team hasn't said it, no source from the team (named) has said it.
  • Schefter said it was his speculation that Carson would want to be traded, just his thought. People ran with it weeks ago as fact.
  • Shefter said yesterday again that it was his GUESS, and people are again reporting it as fact.

Media will make things up for clicks and ratings.  It's not the player or team's responsibility to respond to every rumor or gossip, that feeds the frenzy and creates more attention.  It shows that the media can force people to have to respond by simply making things up.  The media is terrible with this and the responsibility should be on THEM in how they report.  They can analyze and speculate but this reporting as if it's fact with no evidence needs to be dealt with.  One way you do that is by not responding to it.  it's also fans' responsibility to not blindly believe every report.

Having said that, fans will believe any negative rumor with baseless speculation and guesses...but then reports come out from coaches, players or front office with their facts and people don't believe them.  They want to believe the gossip, they want to believe the negative.

How is he "acting?"  We've been through this.

He's been supportive of his teammates, taken ownership of his bad season and not blamed anyone else, his teammates including Hurts have said he was helpful on the sidelines and a good teammate.  He's known as a high character guy, does charity and has taken the high road in this whole mess.

Saying nothing is far worse than an arbitrary statement of his commitment to being an Eagle. Even the Eagles have been coy about Carson’s place here. The owner has called him an asset. The coach has said he expects competition. The quarterback has said nothing. If Carson says he’s committed to being back and better than ever it all simply goes away. Look at the people believing this is all a supposed lie and he’s said absolutely nothing to disprove it. Bottom line is he shuts people up if he simply says he wants to be back. Saying nothing says a lot more than I think you realize. I’ll tell you something though. You know what I’m NOT going to believe? If he comes back next season and says all the stories of him wanting out were false. Yeah not buying it then.

Per an anonymous source, the real reason for the fractured relationship between Doug and Carson was apparently because Carson ate Doug's ice cream.

It’s interesting because when Hurts was specifically asked about whet he learned from Carson he said he learned by watching him. He did not make it seem like Carson was this guy giving him a lot of advice at all. Feels more like a made up story than reality. Even Carson himself has admitted at times he wasn’t a good teammate. He’s not the perfect guy you’re making him out to be.

"Helpful?" I watched today the interview with Hurts and I think he chose his words very carefully...he said "watching" Carson, not him mentoring or anything like that. Taking the high road? Not agreeing with that. As has been stated before, saying nothing is actually saying alot....

He also didn't praise his O line or receivers - ooh, controversy!    Jalen said in previous press conferences that Carson helped him on the sidelines, and Kelce said the same and that Carson was a good teammate.  These players aren't going to make sure to check off every box in every interview so that a few random fans to get worked up about gossip.

You like to look for things that aren't there, or find what you want to see in the narrative.

At the end of the day the team knows exactly what carson wants. Fans and media not knowing and losing their minds over it is their problem not the teams.

I still had Wentz love until September; when this insane idea that our QB was too fragile mentally to handle the team drafting a competent backup became evident. Unless you're a loser, competition is ALWAYS a good thing. I instantly was reminded of when McNabb didn't want Feeley practicing later than him. That's when he became a **** to me. It's all about him, not the team.

It's how he's not acting that bothers them.  They want him to speak out and rage.  They want him to give them the ammunition.   Now that we see he won't give it to them, they resort to making stuff up and relying on anonymous reports.

In my book, this is just Philly fans continuing their reputation as the NFL's biggest a-holes.

IMO, it is not about competition with Hurts, its about not using that pick to draft a player who could help this year.

Could have taken AJ Epenesa, JK Dobbins, Kristian Fulton, Willey Gay, Jeremy Chinn ( reported that he was the highest player on the Eagles board when they went on the clock )
