The hope is that while they may be upset about it all now, they can get on-board and rally behind Harris sometime between now and November. I don't doubt there will be some who simply choose to stay home regardless, especially if they think it's a lost cause. I think that choice is myopic but it's similar to the sentiment people like you were sharing if he had stayed in. Everything became way too polarizing and fractious almost overnight. Maybe most of the damage can be repaired with a strong speech, whenever he decides to give one. A lot of older people will be looking to see his demeanor and tone to see if he feels it was truly the right choice or one that he made reluctantly. A lot will be riding on that.

I was listening to a podcast with former Obama staffers and they said he didn't have enough money left to campaign through November and had to drop out ( this was Friday I believe). And while I feel sympathy that his party basically stabbed him in the back, he and Jill brought it on themselves. He is in serious mental decline and they were either intentionally covering it up, or are in complete denial of reality. The people around him had to know. It was foolish to think they could hide it during an entire campaign and then 4 years after that.
