Smells of a deliberate leak to appease the fan base.

Will be funny if the Bengals pull a classic Bengals and take a different player than Chase.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Well, our best players were drafted by Chip, honestly.

And only holdovers from his staff have actually been "developing" players.

So, if you're worse at this than Chip Kelly, how on earth do you keep your job?

The Hurts pick, although it may be because of "cracks", is what turned the cracks into fault lines.  If there were cracks, why resign him to begin with?

Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham were pre-Chip.  ;)   Those were Andy picks though.

I have no idea why people get so carried away with the Combine/Pro days.

Even the guys who sat out still have plenty of game film, and with today's technology, you can get estimates of how quick they react and how fast they move.

Athletic tests are just some additional information, but if you're not doing it on the field, running fast in shorts won't make you a player.

As far as height with DL, taller thinner players are going to struggle with leverage unless they're really good using their hands - go to the film.

Like every position, there are tradeoffs, shorter, squatter DL can get under the pads of OL but are less of an issue for a QB throwing over the middle.

And it depends on your scheme, Hollis Thomas was a great "fireplug" NT, but would have been lost at the "3".

I think the times are for fans as much as anything these days. I don’t think they get us carried away.  There is some worth to the data if considered with game film and other items like medical and even measurements.

Not going to quote your whole post, but here is my answer.  Now, I admit I am biased towards Mailata.  I love the kid and think he's a great story and have been rooting for him from the start.  That being said, trying to be objective about it I key on their motivation, heart and desire to be the best they can be.  Dillard's first love isn't even football.  It's basketball.  There are questions about his passion for football, even though it's the sport he's better at.  Mailata was a rugby player who really knew very very little about football.  Yet, seeing as how he reached his full potential as a career in rugby, he took a chance to play football.  He went into something totally blind, yet made the commitment and 3 years later is a better player than the majority of his peers and he still hasn't reach his ceiling yet.  And IMO his ceiling is higher than Dillard's.  I don't think Dillard is a bad player and I do think he could be a very solid LT.  However, as we witnessed he was poor playing RT so his value is less than Mailata who showed he has the ability to play either side.  If I had to choose between the 2 I would choose Mailata over Dillard.  Higher ceiling and more versatile.

Anyone who "believes it" should be fired. Not enough data.

A better question is how they felt about the QBS likely to be available at #6 and the cost of a tradeup to #3.

if the remaining QBs are considered high risk, then going with Hurts makes sense while you build up the roster.

Does that include Howie?

Nice win there by your Houston squad!

Fun trivia...no cheating by consulting draft lists: what is the most recent draft year with NO remaining active NFL players from round 1?

I apologize if this has been discussed recently, but I'm texting with a buddy right now about our current left tackle situation.  It's a fun topic for debate.  I never wanted to draft an OT in the first round (there's too much log jam and way too much unknown), but how does this play out in training camp?

Eagles have a 1st round draft pick (that they traded up for), that has great feet, is incredible in pass protection, and from what I saw when he played, was really good his rookie year at LT when Peters decided he didn't feel like playing for the (insert # here) season in a row.  He was thrown in at RT and he was terrible.  I get that, but I also look at the coaching staff outside of Stoutland, and the rest of them were clearly incompetent.

Then we have a 7th round draft pick (which we also traded up for just for referencing) that was the biggest freak of nature rugby player that moves unnaturally for someone his size.  The fact that he never played football 3 years ago is astonishing to me.  He proved his worth this past season and was one of the only bright spots of the entire team.  He is already a competent starter in the league, and his technique isn't even great yet.   @justrelax would know much more than me here.

Mailata is in his 4th year of his rookie contract.  He's the freak of nature athletically, but if he can continue to show improvement, can the Eagles afford him?  Vaitai proved that this league is desperate for swing tackle talent.  Based on the cap numbers, if Mailata performs this year, I think we're screwed.

Dillard is in the 3rd year of his rookie contract, and we have that 5th year option.  He's proven to cry at practices, but he's also discredited on here for his performance his rookie year (other than at RT).

I’m in the minority in saying that if the BPA at 12 is a LT then pull the trigger. You said it yourself, there’s so much we don’t know. Dillard obviously has talent but is a sissy and Mailata is just so raw. I can’t get his horrible Cowboys game out of my head. I’m not sold on either. Almost as much as not being sold on Hurts.

How many times in NFL history has a team drafted a qb in round 1 after trading down?

I was going to say Eagles did it with Kolb but he was a 2

I agree with everything you're saying 100%.  Mailata would be my choice moving forward if I was a GM with cap space.  Didn't know about the basketball love from Dillard.  I just remember reading that super long article where Stoutland called him at the last minute before the draft and was convinced that he was the guy, but now that I think of it.........that's not really Stoutland's job to assess "who the guy" is (especially on a call or a face time).  His job is to coach those guys up.  My main rant was about the contracts and what does this front office choose (since we know the coaches have zero input).

Mailata for 1 more year or Dillard for potentially 3 years?

I don't think they can afford Mailata if he performs.  They have Dillard in their control for 3 years, and Howie will want to prove he didn't make his millionth mistake.  What do they do?

Not sure how often, but the Bears did it in 1999 with Cade McNown, ironically picked with #12.

Even more interesting.. the #12 pick began as the Saints' pick.  They traded up to #5 with Washington.  Then Washington traded up from #12 to #8 with the Bears to select Champ Bailey.   So, just like the Eagles' current pick #12, it was in 3 teams hands before a selection was made... Saints-Washington-Bears.   Same as 49ers-Dolphins-Eagles.

Looks the Eagles or sending scouts and coaches to see Justin Fields pro day. I like him better at 12 than 6.

It sounds like due diligence... I would expect a bigger presence if the Eagles were serious...

I agree it’s due diligence since they were even at Lawrence’s pro day but they are limited in the number of people they can send. Every QB pro day so far has been OC/QB Coach and I presume the area scout.

Unless by bigger presence you mean Nick, Howie etc

Final Four.  Plus they were showing Phi Slamma Jamma clips.  Like this team.  Play great defense.  That Oregon State team played pretty good D too.

That is a concern, two fold as you laid out.  Before getting to that, with Lane looking possibly ready for Week 1 (I honestly forget his time table post surgery) then it should be an open contest between Dillard and Mailata for the starting LT spot.  First, if Mailata continues to progress at the rate he has and is solid all season and grades out as one of the top 8 at the position then he'll have serious value and the chance to cash in, which is why he took the chance he did to play football.  He said in one of the videos about him that he wants better for him and his family.  Two, after all that's happened recently, would Howie want to admit to another 1st round mistake?  That is a worry.

Should Mailata beat out Dillard and then play well they should extend him by mid-season.  If you let him get to FA he's going to get paid.  I'm sure his agent knows that, so hopefully you get him extended, even if it's just a 1 or 2 year deal as he'll still have an opportunity for his payday in his mid 20s, and he wants to stay with the coaches who helped him get to this level.  You would hope he would want to stay and continue to get coached up by the guy who has been there for him from the start.

This is the part that I don't see happening.  I can't see BPA at 12 being a LT.  If Slater is there, and the Eagles drafted him, I wouldn't lose my mind (if Waddle is there I would).  But I'd still like Mailata/Dillard to fight it out at LT and slide Slater in at LG.

Really?  Chick Fil a?  I almost consider that health food.  I get Chick Fil A for my wife and I at least twice a week, and she has celiacs.  She has to eat the grilled nuggets!

I have never thought of CFA being the type of food to destroy my stomach. I think it’s pretty clean.

I called this the Joe Marino pants dropper (because he told me it was "exceptional").  Sorry it's in plain text.  I'm print screen illiterate.

I don’t think it will happen either but if they do go OL at 12 I can’t imagine they don’t plan to start him at LT.

I’d be ecstatic about this. Caleb Farley would be very "Sidney Jones-esque” as far as a draft pick goes, but  I think he is worlds better of a prospect than Jones ever was, pre-injury. But I’d actually like that pick this time. I never was a Jones guy, even before his injury
