I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Did he tear an ACL or something at USC?

Smith production last year was crazy right?

117 catches for 1,856 yards and 23 scores in 13 games played

Elijah Moore played 8 games.  Taking his average over 13 games it would have been

139 catches for 1,938 yards and 13 TD’s

A little different than most I have done. For one, Vera-Tucker fell to our 2nd pick. A lot of times I go 0 OL, but I took 2 in this draft.

Different WR for me this time too. We have rarely even mentioned St Brown in here. Hes probably just going to go somewhere and make all the catches. Im more confident in him than I am in Amari Rodgers. And I think maybe St Brown can play outside too.

I also havent drafted DTs. This time I went 1 DT, and one DE. Theyve moved Kaindoh way up in their rankings. Used to take him with the last pick. Not he was a 5th round pick.

Ewwww.  Three PAC-10 players in the first 5 picks.  @PoconoDon just threw up in his mouth.  This is clearly not your best effort, HE.  Otherwise, you've been a positive contributor, but we all have our off days.  I'll give you a Mulligan.  Use it well, my friend.

I should mention that I've been imbibing adult beverages tonight (no White Claw, I'm not Bobeph, FFS) and feeling a bit.....mischievous.

Good article overall looking at the draft process and building a draft board.

That's fine, and figured that was the case.  But it doesn't excuse making JJAW the pick.  That was still bad process.

With this discussion about Slater at LG...I really don't like the idea of drafting someone high for their flexibility.  Draft someone as an all pro-LG if you think they project that way.  But don't draft someone because of optionality....Someone who isn't long enough for OT but has great athleticism for OG.

That sent me down a rabbit hole....we drafted a college OT in Shawn Andrews who was a prototypical RG in round 1.  And this article popped up:

https://www.inquirer.com/philly/sports/eagles/111913_Former_NFL_OL_Shawn_Andrews_Time_with_Eagles_was_like_I_was_in_a_living_hell.html

We haven't had a good Mcnabb bashing in a while, so maybe worth a read.

To be fair...tooo beeeee faaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiir, Andrews was a prototypical everything (minus OC).  IIRC he slipped in the draft and was just too good of value to pass up.  He slotted into RG because of the bookends being filled at the time.

Dillard was slated to be the starting LT last season before he tore his biceps.

If he's good enough for Stoutland, he's good enough for me.

That Shaun Andrews story was interesting, seems when he arrived, the team had a well established veteran clique.

That's something Sirianni and Howie will have to address, if you're rebuilding and bringing in a lot of young players, you need to ship out any veteran who is a hindrance to player development and a cancer in the clubhouse. It's one thing to have a tight veteran group on a winning team that demands rookies prove themselves worthy (though I frown on frat boy antics), quite another to have a veteran group that sees young players as threats and tries to sabotage them.

Long Term if both Dillard and Mialata pan out that would be awesome.  Very reminiscent of Thomas/Runyan days.

Agreed, but my point was that you can find centers late.  It seems like this might be the 1 position that the Eagles have correctly evaluated over the last 15 years.  I'd be totally fine with an "OK" center if that means we can allocate our draft picks to other positions. Slide Seumalo over if need be.  Kelce was a 6th round draft pick, and he's the total exception........not the rule.  We will never have a center like him for the rest of our lives, so get used to it.

Jamal Jackson was an anomaly as an UDFA.  Even Hank Fraley was above average until the Patriots handed him his lunch in the SB.

Traditionally C's are found all over late usually, Kelce is a bit unique though.  Remember he was drafted as a a prospect for a niche blocking scheme and the person that is Kelce made himself into what he became.  Many thought he needed at least 2 off seasons to get to NFL caliber size.

Kaindoh and Oweh are probably my two fav DE's in this draft.  Potential wise that is.  Both are quite raw.

Dillard is more of a LT as he showed what a mess he was at RT that one game his rookie season.  Mailata is more versatile in that he has the ability to play either LT or RT, though he has taken most of his reps (in practice and in games) at LT, but they were cross training him to be a RT as well.  IMO, Mailata has the higher ceiling than Dillard, but I'd be cool with our OTs for the next 8+ years being Dillard at LT and Mailata at RT.  My fear is they let Mailata go after his initial contract runs out and he ends up as ProBowl LT for some other team for the next 7-8 years.  The question is can Lane overcome his high ankle injury and for how much longer can he perform at the high level we're accustom to him being at?  There's things that need to be sorted on this OL and a lot of that depends on the health of Lane and Brooks on the right side and when/if Kelce decides to retire.  At this point I think our reinforcements on the OL are more needed on the interior than the ends, but we're all looking from the outside in.

They are not going to let Mailata go. I think they negotiate a shorter term extension, then a big money contract in three years if he progresses as they hope.

Dillard is why you need exhibition games, whether you keep or trade him, you need him to play extensively in pre-season both to gauge what you have and to showcase him if you decide to trade him.

AR was right, except for the CBs, if you play cover 2/cover 3, you don't need elite CBs but you do need a secondary without obvious holes.

And these days, pass rushing DTs are as valuable or more valuable than pass rushing ends b/c of mobile QBs - against a mobile QB a pass rushing end will fail to maintain containment, allowing the QB to scramble to his side. Whereas a DT who gets penetration while the DEs mush rush destroy these guys "no where to run, no where to hide."

EAGLES HISTORICAL DRAFT PICKS

Reach/Value (R/V) Explained
The difference between where a player is selected in the NFL draft versus where the player was listed on the final Drafttek Big Board for the season in question.
Example: A player who was listed at #50 on the Big Board and was selected at #35 will be a "Reach" of -15. Alternately, a player listed at #35 on the Big Board who was selected at #50 is a +15 "Value".

Simply put: a positive number is a Value pick, a negative number is a Reach.

hardly any of those players on the team

According to that chart, JJAW was not a reach

KC swooped in and took Mecole Hardman just ahead of our JJAW pick. I think they did that for a reason. If Howie prioritized WR over RB, and got a solid player - I wonder how things would’ve changed. I suspect the need for a Z would’ve been tempered in the following draft and...

Of course, we might have lost Sanders in the three slot interval between our picks.

We had a trade down agreed to with the Jets, who were moving up for Hardman.

Ah, good to know👍 I feel much better.

We all know that the Eagles are 95% going to make a surprise pick out of no where.  Just a matter of how early in the draft they do it.

I'm going with Travis Etienne at 37,

Any other wagers on who might be the head scratcher this year?

Trask at 37

Used Arif Hassan’s consensus big board (he takes all the top analysts’ boards and combines them) and put the setting on difficult. I picked players among the top 10 or so available, and it seemed to always be the defensive players were better than on offense. It was a lot harder to find good players on day 3.

He may have been an incredible talent, but he was also a 360lb fatarse for the draft circuit and tested accordingly in workouts.  Projecting him to OT was a gamble and that’s why he was available where he was.  So I’m not sure he was a prototypical OT at the time of the draft.
