What the trade up tells me is Brooks has checked out to be 100% next season. So they felt no urgency to draft an interior OL high in this year's draft, they can add a project later on, see how Driscoll and Herbig and Opeta et al progress, and revisit the OL next draft. Had they stayed put, with Parsons to Dallas and Smith to NYG, Slater is the last top player on the board - so they'd be looking to trade down. But with 4 picks in the first two rounds next year, at some point you have to take your shot at an elite talent.

So with Slater no longer a priority, Smith was the best second tier player before the talent dropped off.

Parsons obviously wasn't on their board in the same tier, character? fit?

#84 was a bit of an overpay, theoretically we should have gotten their 4th back - but both Dallas and the Eagles were overjoyed to screw the Giants.

I'm not worried about size with Smith, he had a lot of touches in a physical conference and the hand was his only serious injury - and that's not size related. His ability to play any spot and run any route allows Sirianni to scheme him away from the few CBs who might be able to press him

Do I see a HOF player? Probably not. But he'll be reliable and he's not a headcase like many top WRs. And that matters if they want to sign him to a second contract.
