Eh, he's not my favorite reporter but I feel very strongly that if his columns weren't always negative people wouldn't dislike him. I've felt that's the way it's always been with any fan base. Fans want to live in that bubble that everything is great and when reporters are negative, fans kinda freak out. Joe Santoliquito got death threats and the front door to his apartment vandalized because of that story he put out about Wentz in 2018. Not because it was wrong, of course no one could disprove anything he reported. Because they just assumed it was because it was negative and didn't want to believe it. Turns out it's looking more and more on point by the day. I feel bad for the guy.

It's the sports culture where fans take it way too seriously and personally.

In terms of sources, I think among the local guys, his sources are among the best. Certainly better than guys like Frank, Zangaro, Berman, Bowen.

The other day he posted a quote he got from someone who knows Sirianni to twitter and everyone freaked out about it. If instead of somewhat negative the tweet said "Really smart guy, hard worker, good coach" no one would have cared. It was only the fact that it was negative that it upset people. I don't like to live in an echo chamber, I appreciate guys like McLane who don't tow the company line and give the negative side of things so we can get the full story.

But if people don't like him that's their prerogative, you don't have to like him.

I would be more on mclane side if he was ever positive. If you ever notice even during the Super Bowl year he had very little positive things to say about the organization. And it was like pulling teeth when he did. I am all for reporters if they’re going to have some negative stories that get put out there. Sometimes they are needed and they are worthy of it. However mclane repeatedly just does it after anything the Eagles do even if it’s a positive situation.

I thought his tweet was ridiculous because of the ridiculousness of the quote. Frankly when have you ever said to somebody while you are fairly smart but you’re not overly smart. Sounds like someone playing the fence that has no clue what he’s talking about. You either call them smart or you say you’re a genius. If the source would’ve said he’s not a genius like Sean mcvay but he’s smart would have been a better quote. The fact that it said he’s fairly smart but he’s not overly smart what the F does that even mean? You are either smart or you’re not smart. Now you could be a genius which I would assume means you’re thought of more highly than just being smart. I would also love to know what that same source said about the doug pederson hire because im guessing he likely also said no chance at a SB.

Also how do you know which one of them has a better source if you don’t know who the source is? That’s a giant leap to conclusion that all of his sources are good just cause you like being negative

On top of that he gets kicked out of a pressbox and got into a fight with les Bowen at the nova center. So it’s not just reporting where he rubs people the wrong way.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I hate getting into this conversation cause some take it personal in here but I’m all honesty Sirianni isn’t any more qualified then Duce is.

The reason I think they choose Sirianni is because Duce is a strong personality who would held the FO accountable and Sirianni is more of a company hire.

duce wasnt a strong enough personality to keep doug reminded we should be running the football with a bad oline and bad wrs. and he was a rb and a rb coach.

he was guilty by association in the very least.

LOL

Must be nice to have godwin, Evans, gronk (AB), and a coach that will commit to the run when it’s working.

sigh.... Chris Godwin...

I think it's time that people stop making Duce Staley into what they think he is, and evaluate Duce for what he has been.  Duce Staley was interviewed multiple times by this team for OC and HC, and they didn't hire him... multiple times.  The Eagles were very content to have him as the RB coach, and that's really about it.  In addition to that not a single team outside of the Eagles have ever sniffed at Duce for an OC or HC position.  If Duce were a hot commodity as viewed around the league, he'd be getting interviews, especially because of the Rooney Rule that requires TWO minority interviews for each search.  And he hasn't gotten those calls either.  Maybe, Duce is just not seen in that light because he's been (pretty much exclusively) a RB coach and only a RB coach.   He might be a great HC someday, but obviously something is missing from his resumé.  2011-12 ST quality control.  2013-2020 RB coach. 2018-2020 he got the 'Assistant HC' title, but not the OC title, nor the OC responsibilities, and he was coaching on the offensive side of the ball, where the team was just BRUTAL.

And for the sake of argument, let's look at Sirianni, whom was discussed last year as a guy to watch for the future.  Sirianni has been coaching since 2003.  He came into the NFL as the offensive quality control coach in 2009.  He then became the assistant QB coach, back to Offensive QC coach, then to WR coach in 2012.   Then to QB coach, WR coach, Offensive Coordinator... He's been the OC for 3 years.

The clearest path to HC seems to be through the QB position and OC.   Duce needs to dip his foot into that in order to get some consideration moving forward.   Or even WR coach first.  But, for anyone to think that a resumé of only RB coach for a LONG TIME in the same place is as attractive as a coach who's been a part of multiple coaching trees, and has WR, QB and OC on his resume is missing the direction the league is moving.

your using logic and reason, backed up with a few facts. That doesnt play well today. The world is now about feelings.

So lucky to avoid both Brees and Rodgers 3 years ago

No he’s just out of touch with the blog. If you listen (I know no one in the blog does) to Philly sports radio there where plenty of people upset Duce didn’t get the job.

Meh, it was time for Duce to move on, that's how you get the HC job, keep your eyes open for positions that improve your resume, don't do the same thing over and over.

Rodgers saw that play happening and nailed it, though the throw was a bit behind.  Great adjustment by MSV.

No one was beating the Eagles that year. Genuinely a team of destiny.

Stoutland is staying? Thank God!

A lot of football people are meatheads. Wouldn’t surprise me if the quote he got came from a total meathead. I don’t expect eloquent quotes from most NFL people, so I got the basic gist of what that source was trying to say. Basically, he’s pretty smart but he’s not some guru, is how I took it.

I just go by the number of stories reporters break. McLane breaks for more than the other local guys, so I’d have to figure he has better sources. Very often he gets little tidbits before most other local guys. If we were to stack up all the nuggets all the local reporters have over the years, McLane would dwarf the field. It would probably be McLane, then Bowen or Caplan, then figure out the rest.

I agree his stories very often lean negative, but it’s a good balance to all the fluff excuse making bs columns from other writers over the years. I mean it took until like December for guys like Reuben Frank to finally say a negative word about Howie. I like having a guy in the city who will rip apart the organization when it’s needed. It’s unfortunate it has to be so binary, but it is what it is.

Anthony Barr really probably helped rodgers get McCarthy out of town. Without that injury the packers likely make the playoffs and McCarthy likely is still there with no lafleur as 2018 they went 6-9-1 but they likely would’ve given McCarthy another year. Funny how things play out.

The best thing for Duce's career is to go elsewhere and keep adding to his CV. If he can go to AN Other team/s and keep the forward momentum going, I'm sure many fans would love him to come back and be HC.  I'm sure he believes he is ready for the role today (as he should), but I am not quite sure. Respect him a lot, but once he leaves, he will understand why he wasn't chosen.

Meh. I mean we beat Rodgers last season in Green Bay without a very good team. He's not unbeatable. And we did of course have to beat Brady and Bill.
