Lol seriously? He had 2 freaking catches with Hurts

Quit your hating already

He at least did something when a QB was willing to throw him the ball. He played one game with Hurts, and looked better than he did the entire time with Wentz. That points to Wentz being a problem.

He’s a weatherman deep beneath that suit!  Weather forecasters are the only job where you can make mistakes & still keep your job.  Listen to them when they announce the weather:” it’ll be a sunny day with a chance of rain, after that snow & ice flurries w/a mix of heavy winds...” you just said all the elements there , not taking any chances, eh

... on the other hand, more & more are reverting to sweet-n-sexy weather gals!

Maybe Howie is Jeff’s sexy weather gal. 😂😂😂

So why did this take so long? If they knew they were going to fire the coach then they should have done it last Monday. Now it feels like they're behind in their search. Of course this place feels like poison right now. Who is coming in here willing to give the GM as much power as he has? Clearly the owner and GM think the coach doesn’t really matter as long as they are in control.

Yeah, they could have hired one of those head coaches who got hired in the last week.

Oh agreed. Doug had a bad year for many reasons and hey I'm not saying he should have stayed. But the fact he's gone and Howie is still here? The biggest problem with this team. It is beyond moronic.

Seriously how are the going to get a great HC that will be subject to the GM or owner changing their staff whenever they feel like it? Will they hire a DC before they hire a coach again too?

I start to get the feeling they have been gunning for a coach from a team still in the playoffs.. Chiefs?

Let’s just hope this time when they get to their 6th or 7th option it leads to another Super Bowl.

They aren't that's the thing. They aren't going to attract the kind of young exciting HC that most of us fans would like.

We've become the Washington Redskins.

Down to potentially needing a player to write them a check for their bonus money as a path to release them. (As suggested by that former Miami GM)

In 2006, Lavar Arrington wrote the R-words a check for 6 million so they would "save" 500k releasing him.

That’s what we thought about them getting an OC last year too. They don’t have a plan.

Also how is it doug's fault that howie has tanked the draft for a good number of years now. the team is what it is primarily because of that.

how does jeff not see that?

Key point.   I'll be interested to see if he makes it.

I think he’s safe for a good while unfortunately. This would have been the opportune time to can him too, but Lurie can’t seem to get this right.

Note to Lurie:  the larger part of the problem remains.

If he's going to rely on Howie's judgement he might as well have kept Doug.

I think everyone complaining about Howie and talent evaluation need to think about a couple of things.

1) Any player that gets drafted is drafted on potential.

2) After they are drafted, they are coached up and then fit into a scheme where they can be successful.

We are assuming #1 for all of these. How do we know its not #2? We saw what miles sanders is doing because he has duce as a coach. we saw the potential in wentz in 2017 and some of 2018. however, then he went south with press taylor. we have seen flashes of potential in JJRW and Jaylor Ragor. I think we need some good coaching before we can make the proper evaluation on how good someone is. Look at the defense. Darious Slay worked out. Maddox isn't bad. Mills to Safety has been a good fit. There is something there with Alex Singleton. Hargraves isn't too bad. Barnett has had his up and down. Not pro-bowl but an okay starter. Our O-line at the start of the year with Brooks, Johnson, would have been pretty good. its too bad they got injured. if you lost even just 2 guys from the o-line you would be in trouble but we lost more. so really it was the passing game that was awful. the running game hasn't been too bad.

Doug's statement

There were very good reasons for the decision to let Doug go.

  1. Doug flat out lost it with his on field decisions.
  2. He didn't choose coaches well - his best coaches were holdovers: Stoutland, Duce, and Schwartz.
  3. Players just didn't develop under his leadership
  4. Injuries have been a problem for the last 3 years and Doug has been the constant.
  5. His quarterback completely regressed under the tutelage of Doug and Doug's choice Press Taylor

WOW!! JEFF LURIE IS THE MAN!  THANK YOU JEFF!!!

There was a report that Jeff was "talking to people in the organization" and that Pederson could be fired if Lurie did not believe in his vision.  When I saw that, I thought there was a very good chance Pederson would be fired.

My hot take on this: he was fired because of communication failures.  Carson was pissed at him because Pederson benched him and didn't tell him what was happening.  When Hurts was benched the whole sideline was pissed because he didn't properly communicate what the plan was.  Lurie values communication.  This was actually a big reason to fire Chip.

Also, second hot take: HIRE DUCE!

To you, and all others who would have Duce as a head coach: What makes you think he would be a good head coach? I'm not saying he wouldn't be; I just don't know. But what evidence of his abilities do you have?

No, kid. Even if I agreed with your statement it still doesnt line with reality. U are leaving out very important context, details. Certain decisions that cant be refuted.

Lurie press conference soon!  Typically they show on their Facebook page live and YouTube later.

At least we get to keep Wentz. Some won't like that but he's the best choice. Hopefully he will regain himself next season.

Sure hope the next coach doesn’t cross Wentz. I’d hate to see him get fired too.

He was thrown to 8 times in 2020 and only caught the ball 4 times. In 2019 he was thrown to 22 times and only caught the ball 10 times

He sucks

Just got home and saw the news. Not sure I agree with the decision (for this season). But maybe it works out. Not sure who I'd want to see replace Doug.

Has harbaugh signed back with Michigan?  If not Then jeff should throw some money at him.

I’m not sad to see doug go, or any of the other coaches, we’ve been on a downward spiral since the SB and sure plenty of blame goes to Howie as well.  But lately doug seemed to be getting worse in terms of his team and personnel management.  He’s a solid if not great game day play caller when given the tools to prepare, but it’s the everything else that is on question. The lack of using miles sanders, the forcing of AJ into a lineup over fulgham, the lack of attention to defense and forcing jim to take Gerry out of the lineup, the lack of communication to Carson that he was in fact benched during the game and the BS crap he pulled with a week to week decision on that whole qb thing.

Good news is the board seemed to handle it well. Though the real test would have been a Howie firing lol
