You've never been in many gas stations, convenience stores, ethnic restaurants, etc? Those business owners aren't all citizens, nor are they breaking any laws. They generate income, pay taxes, and are trying to make a living just like anyone else.

Thanks. I guess I never noticed.

Forget about parsing my actual questions.

Oh sorry. You asked what records a non-citizen would have to falsify if they wanted to own a business. The answer is none of them.  This is literally how roughly 1 out of every 5 small businesses gets started in this country and there is nothing illegal about it.

Thanks. We made it without fighting and with only a minimum of sarcasm.

Article about migrant mushroom pickers getting deported from Avondale and Kennett Square and how that threatens the local industry.  I worked on one of those family farms in my summer vacations in college a couple of years.  Legal pickers has always been an issue for that industry but I guess the difficulties for the farm owners have gone up now.

ICE has been around.  No mass deportations. Yet.  I hope they leave the farmers alone.  There was one instance earlier this month where someone reported a tire shop owner hired an illegal.  Huge presence form ICE.  News was here and kids were afraid to walk home from school that day.  Three were arrested.  One of them had a DUI if I remember right.

Immigration officials were around back in the early 80s too when I was working on a farm so that isn't new in any case.  I'm guessing the story is a bit overblown in terms of anything new but if ICE gets a lot more aggressive then I suppose it would add greater risk to the farmers.

btw - I was working on the farm that was sold so the Walmart could be built.  That owner took a lot of heat in town and fled to Florida.  His son is still around though don't think he does anything with mushrooms.

I remember all the Walmart stuff.  They are working on the other side of Route 1 now across from Walmart.  You'll never guess, it's going to be another WAWA.  Now there will be one on each side of the road.  Unbelievable, though may be safer getting in and out.  Those places are always busy.  I've never seen a slow day at Wawa.

facts

Musk unveiled a shocking chart: a dramatic spike in Social Security Numbers issued to non-citizens, soaring from 270,000 in 2021 to a mind-blowing 2.1 million in 2024.

That’s almost 5 million non-citizens now embedded in the system—collecting benefits, draining taxpayer dollars, and, most alarmingly, infiltrating the voter rolls.

If they're illegal aliens the broke "the" law.

"What if you get the wrong one"?

Letting the wrong ones in didn't seem to be an issue before hand. F 'em. You too.

I know you're probably unaware in whatever backwater shitehole you live in, but there's such a thing as a legal resident alien who is not an American citizen and has not broken any laws by residing here. They're perfectly within their rights to own businesses and pay taxes on income they generate.

But please do reiterate how important the law is to you after you voted for someone convicted on 34 felony counts and continues to wipe his fat orange ass with the Constitution on a daily basis.

Is there such thing as an illegal alien in the US? Putting aside any semantic quibbling about the terminology (undocumented, etc.).

To put a very fine point on it, if someone crosses any border onto US territorial land - which I presume can only be from Mexico, Canada, or international waters - without checking in at a border station, have they broken a law? What I'm trying to ask, I suppose, is what's the legal distinction between a legal resident alien and an illegal alien? And which one is cheaper for masonry work?

Yes. There's a whole definition and everything.

Asylum laws are fairly broad and don't even require you to do so at an official port of entry. I think the only requirement is to be physically on US soil and to demonstrate the reason for asylum.

I'm not really talking about asylum. They're all told "just claim asylum if you get caught".

I'm asking under what circumstances a human being within the US can be considered to be there illegally.

The same way just over half of illegal aliens become illegal aliens: overstaying their visa after entering through an official port of entry. It's not an attention grabbing headline that makes the rounds on cable news but the majority of illegal aliens crossed our borders on a plane or ship.

Obviously, that was in part a joke.  Having said that, it is critical that our law enforcement follow proper procedures.

You’re talking to the scum who thinks shooting women and children at the border would be a good thing.

I'm more confused than when I first started asking these questions.

I really need to stick with talking about legalised prostitution and getting drunk on Fireball.

Speaking of which...

It's not that complicated. An illegal alien is basically any undocumented foreign national who has overstayed their visa or has not made a valid claim for asylum (i.e. those who've made one and been denied, or just never made one at all.) This is due to how the asylum laws are written. If one wants to argue that they are too broad and prone to abuse, that's fair, but all trumpbots just assume anyone crossing the southern border is automatically an "illegal alien" the minute they step foot on US soil, which is false. They don't know the law any better than they know how to read a calendar.
