Colin Powell's death should remind us that older COVID patients with multiple comorbidities result in worse outcomes no matter what precautions are taken. He was a cancer survivor over 80 years old. So we ought to be doing our best to curb spread of the virus: getting vaccinated, staying socially distanced, wearing facemasks in public, washing our hands and practicing good hygiene, etc.  But there is no 100% cure for COVID besides death. You won't catch COVID when you're dead.

RIP Colin.

Virus is not going anywhere, most people including myself are not socially distancing and wearing masks forever, just is not happening. I have posted the numbers, vaccines work, if you are vaccinated chances of dying are almost zero.

OK and 60% of the country is vaccinated.

OK, and over 60% of the country re-elected FDR in 1936. When Biden gets 60% job approval, let me know.

Just a pro tip here: trying being smarter. Might help you be less poor.

Yeah it should mean a lot to someone like you, but I don't care. Just focus and get it right.

Then you are contributing to its spread and killing people. Thanks.

Socially distancing doesn't mean you have to lock your doors, quarantine at home, and stay there forever. It means when you do go out, be aware of your surroundings, who's around you, and leave a buffer between yourself and people you don't know. If you approach somebody, take precaution and wear a facemask. It won't kill you to wear a mask for a few hours when you go out.

Don’t try to walk it back now…..These are your words not mine:  Would he have been better off being unvaccinated but extremely cautious?

the answer is no, he wouldn’t have been better off.  The best course of action for ANYONE looking to prevent infection is to get vaccinated.  There’s literally zero chance that you have less risk of infection after vaccination.

Given how things turned out he really couldn't have been any worse off. There's a chance he would have never contracted covid if he didn't get vaccinated because he likely would have been far more cautious. Obviously we'll never know. Either way, it's very sad. RIP in peace, Colin.

How much more cautious could he have been, he got vaccinated.  That’s the best step in being cautious against Covid.  Maybe he could have triple masked and never left his house, but not getting vaccinated is in no way being cautious.

Speaking of social distancing, my 27 person poker league starts again on Friday. 27 dudes, the majority unvaccinated, probably around a third of which don't even believe coronavirus is anything more than a common cold at three tables usually in an enclosed garage. Goes without saying there will be zero masks. We made it through last season without any outbreaks. Should be interesting this year.

Yeah, he could have been quarantining since he was immunocompromised. No telling if the vaccine is, ironically, what made him feel comfortable enough to contract the virus. Very sad either way.

Complete nonsense. If you are older and feel it is best to take extra precautions then do so. So you will never go to another sporting event, tough to keep a buffer there. No more concerts for you, better do online shopping forever.

Yes there is. It didn't.

We usually do a last-man-standing side pot for every tournament game, too. It could very well take on a new, literal meaning this season! Stay-tuned!

You do that by going out of your house.

No chance anyone this deprived of human engagement has 27 people that are willing to interact with him in his personal life.

Get those flu shots, fam

See this is what I mean when I'm talking about continuing to be cautious:

People have a false sense of security because the vaccines were marketed in such a way that people thought they were effective against serious illness. It turns out even young, healthy people are dying with breakthrough cases. So sad.

The article procus posted earlier failed to mention myeloma too. It's why they're a cult, they don't bother to question their own authority while chastising others for failing to do the same.
