Basically they're making small protein fragments that are designed to bind to COVID subunits and help neutralize them, almost like cheap low cost antibodies. By reversing the molecule chirality you avoid enzyme breakdown by the cell. Probably not nearly as effective as antibodies in recruiting the immune system but can probably just clog up the binding sites and induce apoptosis somehow. Curious to see their numbers in vivo in the future. Could be a cheap prophylactic measure in situations where you can't avoid exposure.

I doubt they've actually achieved herd immunity. My response was somewhat facetious, but I'm sure that the massive community spread earlier in the year has played a role. The other thing, though, is that it's a warm-weather climate, so you won't see the same kind or degree of seasonal variarion like you would in the Northeast.
