For the past 3 months I was on paternity leave and was Mr Mom full time (minus working on moving and renovating out old townhouse to rent).  I get back from paternity leave last week and my boss sends me an urgent email "I need you to upload your proof of vaccination ASAP.  It's due by 12/3".  Sure, no problem, I'll get to that once I blow through a few thousand emails and 6 mandatory training courses that piled up while I was out. 

That was last week.  Yesterday I finally got around to uploading my evidence to the portal.  Then I decide to purge my inbox of the dozen or so "update you vaccination status" emails that have been apparently been sent starting back in October.  I open one up and I come to find out that if we didn't do it by 12/3, we would be put on unpaid leave starting 12/9.  

 

I had no clue this was going down since I was out.  For a while there I was toying with the idea of extending my leave by taking remaining vacation (I could in theory be out until mid February if I wanted to be) and really glad I didn't because work could have "fixed the glitch" on me and start to withhold paychecks.

The vaccine "mandate" allows for both vaccinated and unvaccinated employees. Unvaccinated employees must submit to regular testing en lieu of being vaccinated. Now, there are some companies who have their own policies that will not allow for unvaccinated employees at all. But that's not how the OSHA mandate works.

I work for a very large company and we follow OSHA guidelines. I suspect that's how most large organizations have chosen to go.
