December 8, 20214 yr Landlord was here today. Twice. I called him last night to let him know there was some low hanging wires (most likely cable wires) across the driveway and if the trash man or another big truck pulled in here they were going to come down. This morning they were down. He’s out back digging I don’t know what and he s complaining to me about his own property! These cable wires aren’t his responsibility he says, and if his tenants get satellite dishes he needs to put it in the lease that when a new one goes up an old one comes down. Can you imagine what the place looks like? He’s a stage iv no evidence of disease thyroid cancer. He did conventional treatment but swears it didn’t work ! He’s disease free at the moment. He swears if cancer gets in your bones you are done. Um, what about your organs you stoonood!!! Then proceeds to tell me all the research he’s done and he is convinced this vaccine changes your dna, and whien he and his unvaccinated girlfriend were at a party full of vaccinated people she breaks out in a rash!! Yes, every time she’s among the vaccinated. I coughed once his way although I was a good 2ft away. Unbelievable.

December 8, 20214 yr BioNTech press release says internal study shows blood from boosted patients had high enough levels of nAbs to effectively neutralize Omicron. Hopefully other independent studies reflect this as well. Cautiously optimistic this allows for some level of personal risk reduction. Still might be a public health issue though, so if you work in a hospital, you've still got all your eggs in the milder disease basket.

I wonder how many parents are sending kids to school with COVID unknowingly, because they don't believe the virus is serious, they may refuse to test the child, or they may even want the child to contract COVID (I have heard this reasoning from a few parents; they would rather have the child fight off the virus than vaccinate).
December 8, 20214 yr So if the data from BioNTech's press release holds up this is what we may be looking at... Your individual risk to Omicron hasn't changed much if you've already been boosted. If you haven't been boosted, you probably should. Even though Omicron is reportedly causing milder disease, that's relative to delta which can still knock you out for a few days. The downside vs upside hasn't changed. Better safe than sorry, especially if you are concerned about long covid. Speaking of which, I expect we'll find out more as it spreads but it'll take a while to know with any level confidence if omicron can still result in long covid at similar rates and to what degree. Even though hospital stays seem to be shorter in Gauteng, the stress on our healthcare systems might be the same, or even worse, since the milder disease could be offset by the increased transmissibility. But the biggest issue is that breakthroughs are likely going to be much higher than what we saw with delta because two shots don't offer as much protection. I saw a recent poll that said up to a quarter of those who have been vaccinated are refusing to get a booster. We're only at 60% fully vaccinated as it is, so this means more than half of our population will be potentially vulnerable to infection (though not as clear if they then are just as likely to retransmit it). Even under the assumption that omicron becomes a direct competitor by providing natural immunity against delta, with increased levels of transmission comes increased risk of new variants emerging. And each new variant can set the clock back somewhat if they are still landing people in the hospital at similar numbers as previous strains were in aggregate.
