Competely get her frustration, but she's making some huge logical leaps here. 

1) pretending that she was told "get the vaccine and things will go back to normal is kinda silly.  Besides the fact that vaccines are pretty much never one-and-done or 100% effective, the need for boosters and adjustments was well known from the start. As evidenced by the fact that the ability to adjust the vaccine target on the fly was one of the initial selling points of the mRNA vaccines.

2) you know who also doesn't approve of cloth masks? The CDC. She's whining about an issue they already addressed.

3) pretending that we haven't made any progress since last year is asinine. We're in peak season amidst a new outbreak and the CDC just halved the quarantine time. Stores, camps, sports, theaters, restaurants are all still open which was not the case last year at all. Yes I'd like to be totally back to normal too but we've made huge headway.

4) I agree that school closures should be an absolute last resort and there are places that are pulling the plug way too quickly. However give me a Fing break with the "catastrophic moral crime" bs. No kids aren't dying en masse from Omicron. They are however clogging up hospital systems and spreading it to others.  And no, school closures are not the only reason for the rise in mental health problems. I have 2 patients with long term sequelae from COVID infection with pretty significant depression (imagine being weak and without taste for almost a year now). Several who have lost caregivers (parents or grandparents). And one immunocompromised kid who died because he refused to go to the ED for a fever like he was supposed to because he knew the wait would be horrific. Framing the question as "do we hurt the kids or not?" is completely disingenuous. Its about what approach we can take that's going to hurt kids the least. Which is a topic absolutely worth discussing.

Again COVID sucks. I get the frustration. But the arguments she's making are just flat out naive and/or ignorant.
