His number don't look too bad if I've read things correctly. Flu - Couple issues here. His article looks at '18-'19 which is the season he discusses in his article and your page look at '19-'20. The other issue is that your page uses "reported deaths" and clearly says "even though the reported number of flu-related deaths in children during the 2019-20 flu season was 199, CDC estimates the actual number of flu-related deaths in children that season was 434". His page uses the CDC estimate for his year. COVID - His page shows a "to date" number of 412 while his article from about three weeks back says 361. I don't have time to try to dig further in here. In any case, those numbers are 18+ months numbers while the flu numbers are single season.

The distinguishing factor between Jacobson and the Biden plan is that the Biden plan is an executive action. What may, however, carry the day legally for the Biden plan is the substance of the OSHA statute authorizing issuance of emergency regulations by the executive branch - legislative regs as they were. If it's upheld, I suspect this will be the grounds for the ruling. If not, look behind the proposed rule to see whether or not there was an improper purpose on the part of the executive branch. Yeah if he just used EA to say a business must require vaccines then no I doubt he could do that but OSHA can

I mean if he wants to look at estimated deaths then we're getting into excess death estimates in which case COVID numbers look a lot worse. Either pick confirmed deaths or estimated. Doing estimated for flu and an then underreporting actual numbers for COVID makes no sense if you're trying to be objective He just seems to be cherry picking his criteria, when he first his sources, numbers etc to prove his point.

I would think the estimated numbers are a truer reflection of the real numbers for flu just as the CDC themselves explain. It would be interesting to see the COVID estimates. FWIW, the CDC numbers are not "from COVID” and they are 18+ month numbers vs the 12 month numbers. We can agree the complete detailed picture isn’t clearly and fully represented in his article but I don’t think it is entirely fair to call it a cherry pick and certainly not a blatant lie.

What do you mean they're not "from COVID"? That's the whole point of the chart. Also we're using 18 months because COVID never went away fully like the flu does in the summer. Not to mention he easily could have looked up 18 month flu deaths if he wanted but didn't, because he knows flu deaths fell off a cliff which emphasizes another point: these deaths are WITH mask mandated, distancing, shut downs and now a highly effective vaccine for the 12+ group. Making the direct comparison even more silly despite his gymnastics with the numbers. He is absolutely cherry picking data and sources.

With their findings outlined in a new technical briefing, PHE scientists said initial analysis of available data indicates that the levels of virus in people infected with the delta variant after being vaccinated "may be similar” to the levels found in unvaccinated people. PHE called the research just "early exploratory analysis” and wrote that "further targeted studies” are needed to determine the extent to which vaccinated people can spread the delta variant to others. Separately, the public health agency said another variant on the rise in the U.K., a strain known as B.1.621 that was discovered in Colombia, has shown signs of evading the immune response triggered by Covid-19 vaccines or previous infection. PHE said "there is preliminary laboratory evidence” suggesting that "vaccination and previous infection may be less effective at preventing infection” with this strain, though there is "no evidence” it is more transmissible than the delta variant, which now accounts for roughly 99% of the U.K.’s new cases. There have been 37 confirmed cases of B.1.621 in England across six different regions, according to PHE, and it has also been identified in several other countries, including the United States. Surprising Fact The data shared by PHE also showed that of the confirmed delta cases that ended up hospitalized since July 19, 55.1% of the 1,467 were unvaccinated, while 34.9% had received both doses of the vaccine. Experts have highlighted that hospitalizations of vaccinated people does not mean vaccines aren’t working. Crucial Quote "While vaccines provide high levels of protection, they are not 100% and will not stop everyone catching Covid-19,” PHE said on Friday. "As more of the population gets vaccinated, we will see a higher relative percentage of vaccinated people in hospital.” Key Background The findings from Public Health England line up with research released last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As it sought to explain its sudden pivot on mask guidance for vaccinated people, the agency published a study suggesting fully immunized people who contract Covid-19 can spread the virus to others just as readily as unvaccinated people.
