September 20, 20214 yr https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/covid-hospitals-near-you.html A good resource on ICU capacity around the country. The map is a good visualization. As you'd expect it varies significantly region to region.
September 21, 20214 yr On a lighter note Norway has just declared their current situation no worse than the flu given their very high vaccination levels in the country. While they may be a bit premature this does offer real hope.

The population of Virginia is 8.5 million. 5 million people have been fully vaccinated. 230 deaths out of 5 million people is a mortality rate of 0.0046% 3.5 million people are not vaccinated. From 1/17 to 9/11 there have been 6,335 Covid deaths. Subtract the 230 breakthrough fatalities, and that’s 6,105 deaths out of 3.5 million people for a mortality rate of 0.17%. For the math impaired, ie you, that’s 38x the vaccinated mortality rate. (And that’s not even accounting for the fact that the unvaccinated population tends to skew younger and should have an overall lower chance of dying). But we thank you for this wonderful demonstration of the effectiveness of vaccines. Couldn’t have done it better myself.

September 21, 20214 yr My daughter received her 2nd jab yesterday. She has a 102 degree fever today and chills. Seems like a fairly standard reaction so far. Her friends just went thru their 2nd and a few had fevers for a couple of days so she expected it.
September 21, 20214 yr She's right. She wasn't thinking about a mask and was feeling the mood. There are times and places for masks. Others not so much.

September 21, 20214 yr Both NZ and especially Australia are a mess right now as they are forced to start to alter their zero tolerance policies and are rather far behind in vaccinations as compared to other wealthy western countries.
September 21, 20214 yr New J&J study shows decent protectiveness against delta 6 months out, with not as much waning as seen with Pfizer. Also shows that a J&J booster pumps Abs by 12x, so probably a matter of time(3-4months?) before the J&J folks get an approved option for a booster.

Right. I believe it has to be the same/similar formulation to be termed a "booster". The flu shot changes each year due to the fluctuations of viruses in circulation. So it's a different flu shot each year.
