I suspect that Embiid comes back, they win a couple games, then ultimately lose the series in 6 or 7.  And we’ll be spending the whole offseason wondering what might have been if Joel hadn’t had to miss the first two games.

Depends what kind of Embiid we get. If he's playing but not really 100%, I can see once of those frustrating games where he's doubled and turning it over a lot.

embiid being out really shows how turrible his supporting cast is. the roster needs a compete overhaul, imo. maxey is the only untouchable. they need some long, athletic guys on the wings. they need more consistent shooters. they need better rebounders at the forward positions.  they need a backup pg.  they need a lot. 

morey needs to be very busy this offseason.  harden doesn't deserve anywhere near the max he wants. tobi needs to be traded. thybulle needs to be traded before his value completely dries up...if it hasn't already. shake & kork can go. jordan & milsap need to retire. they can't come back next season with niang being their best guy off the bench. that's just embarrassing. and glenn needs to get sheetcanned.

other than that, they're fine. heat in 5, btw.

Embiid at 80% is a game changer at this point.

I assume Morey isn’t stupid enough to extend Harden at this point after what we’ve seen.

Under that assumption, does Harden exercise his player option or decline and go to FA? I imagine Harden could get a fairly sizable contract on the open market. Can’t see anyone paying him close to the max though.

This team has 4 NBA basketball players. That's it. When Embiid is out they only have 3. The rest of the roster is total garbage.

Maxey, Harden and Harris are better than Aaron Gordon, Monte Morris and Will Barton. 

They both have crap supporting casts though

If he cares about winning then he will take a shorter term here but if not then a max for a crap team

true...a healthy jamal murray closes the gap some but denver's slop was worse this season.  and that's why they got bounced in the 1st round rather than the 2nd like the sixers. 

i mean, this is one of the worst supporting casts we've ever seen. Coming at a time where the next supposed co-star to Embiid has fallen off a level, and would prefer to facilitate rather than do it all. Danny Green and Niang not being able to hit the ocean from the beach couldn't have came at a worse time.

Butler and Bam have been really good on both ends of the court.

I’ve said this for a while their past mistakes are catching up to them and their wasting of assets is likely going to be the reason that they never win a championship. You can’t waste as many draft picks, assets and cap space and it not eventually catch up to you. Other contenders make a mistake or two. But the sixers routinely make them and then compound them. The team is at that this point because of ownership, poor GMs and bad player development outside of embiid and maxey.

honest question what first round picks by the sixers has lived up to expectations or surpassed them since the process started? It’s really only embiid and maxey. Everyone else was either a flop or never met the expectation of what they should’ve been. 

Then you add making bad moves that consistently been made. Have the trading of bridges. Have the sign and trade of butler. You have the signing of horford. The trade of horford to get broken down green and give up a first. Have the harden trade which is trending into bad. Thybulle should’ve been dealt last year at max value. He has been the same player since entering the league and they overpaid for him in the draft cause sixers couldn’t keep their mouths shut. For every good trade like the one that managed to get us the pick to acquire maxey you have 2-3 horrible moves. 

the problem is the sixers are stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of trying to completely overturn this roster. There’s not enough guys available FA that we need in order to make the roster better than teams ahead of us in suns, bucks (when healthy), Boston and warriors. Add on if there was we don’t have the cap space to do it. if you want to make a trade what do the sixers have that has great value? Only ones that do are embiid and maxey and we aren’t trading either. Harris and thybulle aren’t getting you much. I doubt a team like the wizards couldn’t get better value for beal than that. Beal would have to only want to come here. I see him being cool going to a few teams. 

the reality is it is looking more and more like the past mistakes and butchering of roster construction will prevent us from being better than a 2nd round or maybe ECF team and is likely leading us to down the road trading embiid so he has a chance to win a title before his inevitable decline. 

Only way I'd even consider resigning him

Idk. I don’t like him, but he’s been a fine owner. Pays top notch for his front office. I can’t complain too much.

Unless he’d except something like $20m per year, I honestly don’t have much interest. Rather try to lure Beal or Lavine with the cap space.

Idk they are definitely a part of the reason for this mess. They allowed the nba to bully them into colangelo cause he and Rubin didn’t have the balls to stand up to them. They also put Brett brown in charge one offseason and then Elton brand with little Nba FO experience in charge for one of the worst off seasons in recent sixers history. That goes back to ownership. They went and got morey and spent but they also were a part of a lot of mistakes.
