i give glenn credit for calling the timeout...dialing up that zone defense that seemed to give toronto problems...and for not playing jordan over paul reed this series. but i also thought they played way too much iso on offense last night...just clearing out and going 1 on 1 instead of moving the ball like they did in games 1 & 2. they were able to get away with it against the raptors...barely....but they can't pull that sheet against the heat in round 2.

yeah im not saying glenn suddenly became a great coach, just acknowledging that he's doing better than i thought he would. which TBH, isn't saying a whole lot.

The rewriting of history by the national media is nauseating. Before the series it was all about people picking the Raptors or saying it would go 6 or 7 games. Now they all claim that the Sixers should have rolled them and got lucky.

No one at ESPN.com had it going fewer than 6 games: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/33720582/nba-playoffs-2022-experts-picks-every-first-round-series

Oh...but Scotty Barnes got hurt! Sure, they were getting rolled in game 1 when he played, but now it's a "significantly depleted" Raptors team.

What do you expect?  These are the same nerds that are gonna give Jokic his second MVP in a row because he's a good passer

I follow the NBA but am not invested in any team.  Embiid not winning MVP would be an absolute joke.

Jokic is going to run away with it because he has the highest PER ever. According to the stat nerds, Jokic is the greatest player ever -- better than MJ, better than LeBron, better than Wilt and Kareem.

This is what happens when they let people who don't watch the games vote for MVP.

NBA MVP voters

Dave Gettleman Vs. The Nerds — McNabb or Kolb

So screw it, I'm going there.

For 7 straight years, Michael Jordan led the league in PER and won...3 MVPs.

For 5 straight years, Shaq led the league in PER and won...1 MVP.

For 6 straight years, LeBron led the league in PER and won...4 MVPs.

But Jokic has to win every year that he leads the league in PER. 2 for 2. Because he plays the game the right way. He's fundamentally sound. He doesn't rely on athleticism. He's....

He's....a pudgy white dude the voters can relate to

Of all the travesties in MVP voting, Shaq only winning it once is just absurd.

even KD said its hands down embiid.

nerds refusing to give any credit to the process.

If you asked every GM in the league, if you knew both would be healthy, Jokic or Embiid...I'd be shocked if you got 5 votes for Jokic.

27.1 ppg on 17.7shots /13.8 rebounds/7.9 assists with a usage rate of 31.8%

30.1 ppg on 19.6 shots /11.7 rebounds /4.2 assists with a usage rate of 37.2%

Did Joel really have a better season than Jokic? To think Jokic season wasn't also Fing amazing is dumb.

Jokic is going to get bounced in the first round. Embiid had to keep a team together when Simmons wouldn't play. Winning should count for something.

Then my counter is Michael Porter played 9 games and Jamal Murray played zero.

His starting five is Will Barton, Aaron Gordon, Jeff Green, and Monte Morris and he still won 48 games with that team or only 3 less than Joel. That starting five beyond Jokic is putrid at best.

Playoffs don't matter in this award. Nuggets ran into the Warriors who are all healthy and Jordan Poole has decided he wants to be the next Splash Brother.

I don’t know this off hand but I thought I read that the Sixers had a better record against playoff teams by a good margin.

So then why vote? Just give the award to the player with the highest PER and be done with it.

Anyone who actually watches the games wouldn't take Jokic over Embiid or Giannis this year. Jokic is a top 10 player. He's not the MVP.

Switch teams does Embiid get this Nuggets team to 48 wins?

Easily

Yep

And I will wholeheartedly disagree.

Every team will just double Embiid and make Monte Morris/Will Barton beat them.

Jokic isn't even doubled on this team because opponents know he can beat them with his passing which is something Joel can't do.

If being a good passer is the most important part of the game to the exclusion of other aspects, then Chris Paul should be MVP.  Embiid is a better scorer and a better defender.

Is he that much better of a scorer? I pulled up the stats from this year on the last page and Jokic is 27.1ppg on 17.7 shots and Joel is 30.6ppg on 19.6 shots.

Joel gets 9.6 points from the line, where Jokic get 5.1 from the FT line.

People don't give Jokic credit for how good he really is because no one watches them and he is a doughy white guy. It's taking nothing away from Joel but the award is most valuable player and what he did for the Nuggets to win 48 games is MVP worthy.

I think if the Sixers won 55 games or more then Joel probably gets the award.
