I wanna do an experiment to see what peoples level of optimism that the seasons of the major sports can continue/start/finish.  Put a % next to each sport.  Higher the % the more confident you are....  Not so much the seasons starting, because I think it's obvious MLB/NHL/NBA are going ahead....but it lasting to a finality.  Here's mine.

NFL 2020 Season start and finish- 10%

NBA 2019/2020 Season restart and finish- 60%

NHL 2019/2020 Season restart and finish- 60%

MLB 2020 Season start and finish- 70%

NCAAF 2020 Season start and finish- 5%

NFL 2020 Season start and finish- 5%

NBA 2019/2020 Season restart and finish- 20%

NHL 2019/2020 Season restart and finish- 90%

MLB 2020 Season start and finish- 60%

NCAAF 2020 Season start and finish- 0%

Why is NHL so high?  Because those guys have the greatest of respect for 'competing for the Stanley Cup'.  To them, the quarantine is not all that different from the sacrifices they've made their whole life to play hockey... waking up at 5 am to get ice time before school... etc.   Those guys are just different.  I've not seen anything about a labor dispute in hockey regarding how the money will work, complaining about the location, complaining about being quarantined, etc.

The MLB showed that they were as worried, if not more so, about the monetary side of things as to the safety.   And they are not going to a central location to bubble themselves.  That said, they don't interact as much as the other sports... it's a socially distanced sport by definition.   So, they get the second highest chance.  And the players at the top of the farm system will be desperate to get a chance 'in the Show'.  Their seasons have been cancelled, they likely won't be getting paid at all, and the chance to show your skills at the highest level, even if its in the midst of the pandemic will be a dream come true... so there will be players available to fill in for any quarantined players.

NBA has already shown an inability to maintain quarantine.  We've seen the players complaining about the accomodations.  We've heard of players breaking the rules of staying inside the bubble.  Then, there's the proximity of playing the game itself.  They won't be wearing masks (how could they and play basketball?), they can't be socially distant, so if an outbreak starts, it will spread like wildfire.

NFL... too many locations... too many people involved and losing a QB is a death sentence to a season under regular circumstances.  A QB going down with Covid and taking the entire QB room with him for a precautionary quarantine?  Forget it.  It won't be football at that point, well, at least not today's NFL, it will be 3 yards and a cloud of black rubber stuff.

NCAA?  Yeah... take that statement about the NFL and just ramp it up about 10 fold.  No way to figure out how to limit cross contamination, etc.   Football is just not a socially distanced sport.  Heck, the players on the field for a given play and the officials, not counting the sidelines is already over the 25 person limit that some places have... but even the ones that are more lenient is 50.  That's less than HALF of the people that would be on just ONE sideline.  Colleges dress like 80 players for a game, they could reduce that a bit, but I don't see them cutting it much.  And then there's the coaches, training staff, equipment people... The reporters will be elsewhere but even 'bare bones', you are talking about 100 people per sideline... not sure how they can limit that to a much smaller number.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Are we talking on time?  Lots of talk about NCAA in the spring as has been discussed on here.

NFL- 100% but could be cut short.  I think the schedule will be put together where they could end the season after 8, 10, 12 or 14 games if needed

NBA- 100%

NHL- 100%

MLB- 100%

NCAA- 0% fall, 100% spring.

The schedule is already built, and I don't think that fits how they did it.

Gentlemen, while I don't run this blog or this message board can we please keep all this political, covid virus, blm, white supremacy, BS out? I just want, no need someplace that doesn't talk about it ad nauseam, I'm asking nicely.

Thanks

Amen.

Yesterday I did another rack of spare ribs.  Homemade rub with the spices I picked up in Lancaster County.   WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Best I've ever made and my wife asked 'Are you ok?'   Apparently, I made some noises while eating them.  Just a little embarrassing, but they were SOOOOOO good.

Soon to smoke a pork shoulder for some carnitas.  Tomatoes are coming on, peppers, cilantro... going to have some fresh veggies for fajitas, tacos, or whatever.   Sooo excited for that.

The league absolutely botched their schedule. They built a couple of "outs" into it to delay it a week or two, but it sure doesn't look like they made a schedule that could comfortably be cut in half.

I’m going to keep talking about Covid.

Yup.  Had they placed all intra-divisional games the same weeks... and intra-conference games... and had the inter-conference at the same time.   Allows for easier scrambling, moving, or just abridging, etc.

So many things to say about this.  One one hand...PJ Tucker is known as the king sneakerhead in the NBA so this doesn't surprise me  Apparently he owns over 4,000 paris.  Let's say the average basketball shoe price is $150.  That's $600,000 worth of sneakers.  I have no idea what PJ Tucker does as far as donations or any charity work but this is the sort of thing that makes any message pro athletes have regarding issues fall on deaf ears for me.

I too own over $4,000.

While it’s hard to see it this way, the average athlete is much closer to our net worth than they are to billionaires. Athletes really aren’t our problem, and the issues they bring up mean a lot more to those bottom of the depth chart players.

Well, I have everyday sneakers, mowing shoes, a pair of hard leather sneakers for when it’s rainy or muddy and a pair of basketball shoes that I haven’t worn in years.

it was a typo.  4,000 PAIRS.  I have $4,000 in shoes too...not pairs.

Some of you are fancy.   My shoes, all put together, wouldn't run even $400.

I think Covid is fine when talking about how it affects leagues, players, sports, personal life etc. When it gets to be politicized should be the line in the sand.

Not that you do, specifically.

But the last thing we all need is some self righteous poster in here preaching to us about wearing a mask.  We get it.  Wear a mask. Move the F on.

And you can move on. Hopefully while wearing a mask.

Honestly, at this point you can't talk Covid or seasons finishing without talking politics. I mean the freaking mayor canceled things for 6 freaking months...6 months....so you can ask as nicely as you want, but you can't separate things at this point, and if people think they can then they are fooling themselves. That doesn't mean there has to be a full on convo about them, but they will be touched on.

You are welcome.   Nothing tastes better than fresh from the garden veggies... other than fresh meat.

Just went out to check the zucchini plants.   Found 8 more.   Sadly, I will be pulling two plants as they are not producing good fruit any more, and will replant new zucchini, in the hopes of running this harvest straight through the entire month of September... maybe even parts of October.

Oh yeah. At times.  No doubt.  Like I said the other day.  Self awareness is underrated.  But I know never made a post stating Dak Prescott was better than McNabb.  That’s idiotic.  But if I did.  I wouldn’t try to run away from the topic.

Run away? Ok...
