Want to know what cures some of that? Going through hardships. We've had it good for a long time in America regardless of who's in power. For the most part people are well taken care of here so it causes people to knit pick some. I think we're spoiled. My grandparents and parents went through the depression they hardly ever ****ed about anything. And the spoiling honestly started with my generation (Just past Vietnam war and nothing since that hasn't been volunteer to do my dirty work) I've had it pretty good in my 58 years.

Im not sure if hardship is a cure anymore. Id say the country is experiencing one right now and instead of learning not to complain, people are concocting conspiracy theories and turning on the government for trying to impose common sense rules calling it a violation of their rights. And be damned if they let bill gates implant them with a micro chip in the corona vaccine!

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I cant recommend this video enough. I posted it once in CVON but it applies everywhere on this board, and everywhere in this country. Dont let the thumbnail fool you its not just about masking or not masking. Its about the ability to have productive debates, and respect for both sides in general. I thought this was great.

Dont be scared off by 40 minutes, the main talk is about 23 and then he does some Q&A, though I enjoyed that too.

Really good video, thanks for sharing.  Part of it was what I was trying to say about people on social media saying I'm right and you're wrong therefore you're a POS.  He just said it much better and then some.

The fact of the matter is we all have different morals.  There is no telling who is right and who's wrong but we are going to stick with people who share our same values and morals.

Its a great explanation in simple terms about what makes people think the way they do (not because they are dumb, or a bad person as we often assume or accuse them of). But its also a great video for introspection in to what drives our own thoughts. And when you have this map you really begin to understand yourself, and others. If everyone in the country could watch this video, itd go a long way towards creating a lot more respect for each other.

Should have been wearing mask from day 1...all you heard was they wont help , now mask are mandatory.

4% of worlds population, 34 % of worlds cases, this was a failure of epic proportions,  and starts at the top.

It was never fake news nor a democratic hoax, cases weren't going from 15 to zero in a cpl weeks.

I would love to see where our country would be today if Facebook and twitter were never invented. The good things they provide are far outweighed by all of the negatives.

I would add Cable News to that equation as well, being bombarded by opinion news 24hrs a day takes a real toll on a population, especially when that opinion gets increasingly partisan.

I remember my late Grandfather used to watch nightly news for like 20 mins on TV, and read the news paper in the morning and that was it. His news intake was limited to: what happened, where it happened, statement from official related to the situation, followed by sports and weather. A much more healthy dose if you ask me.

This was a catch-22.

It was important to make sure healthcare workers had masks first.

Though youd like them to be forthcoming and state this as the reason they told people they didnt need to mask, we all know how society is. Everyone would say F you to everyone else, Im making sure I am protected, and my family is protected first. And people would hoard masks like they hoarded everything else.

Kinda sucks, but I think it was a necessary lie in the beginning. And its our (society's) fault for being that way.

Should have never been an issue,  shows how unprepared current administration is and was.

Health care workers life is no more important than mine or the lady down the street.

as I said....thats why you needed to be lied to.

its not about who's life is more important.

Its being strategic with limited supplies to protect the most at risk. Protect the elderly, and the health care workers so they are equipped to save you when/if you need it without dying themselves as some have.

They didnt protect elderly, almost 45 % of deaths are elderly.

It's not that it's more important - it's that it's at higher risk. They need the masks more because they are constantly around the infected while you are trying to avoid the infected.

thats true. I was conflating what they did, with what they can be done going forward as things re-open. Point stands. It was a common sense strategy to ensure limited supplies were diverted to the proper places.

The lie was never needed. Most American people have been generously donating masks to hospitals et al. And do you honestly think that this administration was forward thinking enough to lie in order to protect the supply for those that needed it most. That's some serious spin my friend.

CDC are the ones who issued guidance on masks, and Im sure they didnt just forget that masks protect people when they were telling you you didnt need one.

And, it was needed. Most people are certainly not donating masks.

F me I miss football.

OK - let me rephrase - it was never a lie. Initially the CDC didn't have enough evidence of asymptomatic transmission. So yes they were telling people they didn't need to wear face masks because A) they didn't think it would help and B) they needed the supply for healthcare workers. When evidence that asymptomatic transmission was not only possible but likely, the CDC changed their recommendation to the general public wearing CLOTH face masks where social distancing was difficult.

I get that health care workers need mask , my point was , there  should have never been a shortage, pandemics are real and a real threat to society.  They dont take up much space.

We can mobilize 12 super carriers in a blink of a eye, there  should be no reason we dont have basic ,life saving things in storage.

IMO, social media and the media in general are the #1 reason why our country and society is taking a dump.  Add to that a higher education system that is failing us and it just gets worse.  Social media is straight up poison.  Go on twitter and look at tweets. 99% of people who tweet, especially about controversial topics have no respect for the language, their fellow man or what anyone thinks anymore.  Facebook is just as bad .  Then you have the media who does nothing but divide our country.  They could be the glue that mends our country but instead the media continues to rip and tear and do anything possible to add flames to the fire.

I also don't know if this comes from the everyone gets a trophy mindset but no one wants to admit when they are wrong.  Everyone thinks they are right all of the time.  Not only that but it's  I'm right, you're wrong so I'm better than you and you are a POS human.  People on social media are full of such hate.  There's also no more critical thinking.  Nobody wants to sit back and look at all of the facts and with a clear head make a statement or decision.  People are so reactionary anymore with their thoughts and beliefs.  Conversation and debate is non existent on social media.  It's also one of the reasons I come to the EMB for conversation because the majority of us on here seem to actually talk out our thoughts and feelings on all things be it Eagles football or hot topics.

I would love to see where our country would be today if Facebook and twitter were never invented. The good things they provide are far outweighed by all of the negatives.

I was a teenager when the whole rodney king thing went down, twitter and facebook werent around then and the nation was still divided. Facebook and twitter and social media arent the root of the problems just the branches that carry the seeds.

One last thing on mask , so the government lied to us ,so the health care workers could have a mask ,to treat the people who have the virus, because they were lied to ,and never wore a mask?

That is why this country is in the mess we're in , decisions based on backwards logic.

Thats some high level conspracy theory stuff there and ive been netflixing alien documentaries all week.

The one about nixon taking jackie gleason to go see aliens is fun!

I'm responding to Hazeltoneagle, I dont agree with  said logic. I think we just weren't prepared for this ,and the administration did not want to admit the problem , because might add to already booming deficits, might lead to 40 million Americans being unemployed,  and might not be beneficial come November 3rd , that is just my humble opinion.

The only discussion of November 3 in this blog should be that it falls two days after the cowboys game. No politics guys. @HazletonEagle don’t bite. Mutual public health is one thing. Let’s not get into promoting or bashing the administration.

You don't like the President. Ok, that's fine. However, your over-the-top hyperbole accomplishes nothing, and only turns people off to any valid points you might have.
