He apologized and most won't care. It’s clear as day. Rasul’s response confirms that. I don’t agree with Brees but at this point apologizing is pretty pointless. People have their minds made up.

I agree with what others have said, no apology is pointless. However, we need to recognize the difference between a sincere apology and a socially coerced one. The former is one of the best ways to show true remorse, and it goes a long way towards people forgiving you. The latter is contrived, but it is not pointless, let me explain... a clearly fake apology is polarizing, it either further alienates people and invites further judgment OR it convinces those that want to support you that you are genuinely sorry (due to self confirming bias). We are opinionated beings and we look for things that naturally reinforce out beliefs.

I felt Brees' apology was pressured, but i do not feel that it was entirely ingenuine (<is this a word?). Whatever the case, the fans who really want to support him or idealize him will be further predisposed to forgive him; so his apology was not without a point.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

That's the problem.  During the days of slavery, dont you think there were white people against it and fought for them to be free?

So if I'm always going to be viewed as an enemy eventhough I did nothing wrong then I might as well not care i guess.

Not all white people are being viewed as the enemy. I’m not sure where you got this idea.

No one says you need to scream from the rooftops that you support black lives, no one has asked that.

blacks experience systemic inequality and racism and that sucks. One can choose to hear that and listen and attempt to understand that plight and change it or one can choose to justify minimize disregard ignore and blame.

I think you have made clear your choices.

I was trying to explain the mindset of virtue signaling. That's what VS people want, scream it from the rooftops so everyone knows where you stand.  Look at me, I support this cause.  I find it ridiculous.

I'm not talking about myself or my choices at all.

Drew Brees will be fine. The guy almost single-handedly put New Orleans on the map and has, by most accounts, been a model citizen and role model to many. Didn’t he win NFL Man of the Year award a couple times?

he’d be fine if he apologized or didn’t.

Anyone have any good marinade recipes/mixes for chicken thighs or chicken breasts?  I can't grill red meat every single night, so I'm trying to add some chicken options.  I've got some breasts marinading in the fridge right now (all in a Ziploc gallon freezer bag) with a mix of vegetable oil, honey, lime juice, paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder.

A reallllly simple marinade for chicken.  Get yourself a couple of bottles of Gazeebo Room dressing.  Drain out as much of the oil as you can and combine all of the seasonings from the bottom.  Let your chicken soak in that for a bit.  DELICIOUS.

Understandably so. It was a delicate situation and one that had to be carefully worded. The last thing he needed was to fumble the apology.

For sure. All celebrities and brands do this. It's not a big deal.

I find it hilarious we can’t work still in certain areas or go out to dinner but we can protest 1000 deep side by side in the street

We will disagree on this.  Kaepernick with his socks and Castro shirt turned the discussion from the injustices and impact of misuse of police power and the criminal justice system against POC to the socks disrespect for all police (a gross generalization and arguably discriminatory) and a tone deafness to Cuban Americans.  The sitting and then kneeling completely drowned out the message as so many saw it as disrespectful rather than appreciated the underlying reason.  I would  argue the year long salary contribution by Chris Long spoke volumes more and more effectively.  The trips to Harrisburg, the attention drawn by folks to the need to pay attention to who is being elected as district attorneys both got more dialogue and action.   I am a card carrying member of the ACLU and we are active in criminal justice reform in a much more impactful way than Kaepernick has been.  Sorry, his methods drowned out the message.  He has put some of his money to use but so has Jeff and many other people and players.
If we could go back and look at the Blog discussions from back then, you would note very little dialogue on the intended message and a lot about the appropriateness of the method.   Even those that defended the nonviolent protest probably spent more words on defense of such than on the underlying message.

It’s a simple numbers game. People globally talked about Kaepernick and often pointed to "this is why he is kneeling.” Was a lot of it drowned out because people hated how he did it? Yes, of course. But he still reached far more people than Lurie, Wentz and Long despite the resentment. I don’t think that’s even debatable.

He also donated more than a million of his own dollars to charity. His kneeling sparked even more activism from others.

The Castro thing and the cops/pigs socks were stupid, but it’s all just distracting from the overwhelming good that was sparked from him kneeling.

History books, I think, will look back fondly at Kaepernick, even with the mistakes he made.

Ive always liked Drew Brees and i think hes well liked around the league and by his teammates, jenkins said as much.

And jenkins was right, Brees needs to know when to shut the F up.

The blow back was pretty swift and the apology pretty quick to. Im sure all will be forgiven as soon as another influential person says something stupid.

Too bad brees had to be one of them, hes a good dude.

That is what we want and there are people of every ethnicity out protesting for it, so support the people who are trying to make that happen. Cause as of now, everyone is not treated equally.

I wouldn't argue against that. I'm okay with protesters. Looters not so much

Virtue Signaling.  Have you heard that term at all yet?  It's used for people who want credit for doing good things.  It discredits everything about being a good person in my mind.  I was raised to be a good person no matter what others think, do what you feel is the right thing.  Do unto others as you want done to yourself.  "VS" people do good so they look better in the eyes of others.

I did a random act of kindness, let me post about it on facebook so everyone can pat me on the back and I feel good about myself.  Look how nice I am.

I love black people so much and racism is so bad that I'll make my profile picture a black square.  That will show everyone I care, job done.

So if you go to a store and almost all the help is rude but there's one helpful person, do you say that the store has good customer service because they have 1 good employee and 20 bad ones?

**editing to clarify. I am not talking about now, I'm talking about the 60s and earlier. The either indifference or outright mistreatment of black people throughout the history of the country would very likely make them at least wary of white people. Today, that's different. There is a majority of the population that is pro-equality and not racist. There are is still some remaining wariness though because in the scheme of things, the almost decent treatment is a new thing.

Look there are indeed legitimate issues here and I'm not saying there isn't. What I'm saying is that if we start saying I hate white people because officer schmuck face killed a black man or I hate black people because they riot and bust crap up. Then that's part of the problem not the solution. I lived in the 60's and it did suck for black people then but I'm willing to bet that very few rioters or looters lived back then.

Let's deal with what the issues are now.

So you are doing the opposite of VSing to prove you arent a VSer????

My parents taught me to acknowledge other peoples feelings and try to empathize, actually my wife taught me that, my parents taught me to bury my feelings until the only outlet they have is through explosive outbursts😒

Not many people are. One of the most frustrating things right now are those who are taking away from the point of the protest to focus on the riots and looting.

There have even been some protestors who have protected stores that some looters wanted to break into.

Also, the cops are inciting a lot of these riots. Some of the videos I have seen from police officers who have abused their power to screw with peaceful protestors is despicable and they should be terminated.

And Tom Wolf is leading the way!  Protest to open your business back up, you're a coward and want to see old people die however.

Gov. Wolf marches with George Floyd demonstrators in Harrisburg ...

Two weeks ago they were threatening to arrest a barber in Michigan and threatening drive up church’s, but now riots and protests with thousands side by side is okay

Rumor going around is that there will be a march in hazleton, and expected riot and looting Friday and Saturday. Funny thing is we have like 0 african americans in Hazleton. The rumor is that they will be being bused in from NY and Philly.

This sounds fake to me. But its apparently credible enough that the police are taking it seriously, and national guard is on stand by.

This is just ridiculous.

What’s wrong with showing your friends and family that you care about black people? I can tell you that many of my black friends on social media have thanked people of all races for showing support during the past two weeks. They’ve also noted how many people they unfriended as well because "they showed who they really were.”

Agree as some said good people and bad people everywhere. Let's try to come to some kind of solution America.

You kinda made it sound that way.  Just sayin....

Whites enslaved blacks for many, many years and we have to pay the price for that, eventhough most of us weren't even born yet.  So basically I'm being judged on something that happened years and years ago and that's ok.

Look, I'm sure you're a good dude and not trying to start any problems.   I just want equality but we'll never see it because a certain portion of every race will never get along.
