Friendly reminder that Jalen Reagor is an athletic freak

For reference, as a senior in HS that jump is less than a foot from the current Olympic qualifying distance of 8.22 meters

We're just praying that he can catch the damn ball

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Curiosity got the better of me... Did some reading about the 1918 outbreak of Spanish flu.  Seems that the first wave was minor comparatively (not that dissimilar from what we are seeing with this virus), but a mutated form came back and spread in the fall of 1918, and that had a "W" curve, where healthy young adults (25-35 years old, male and female) died at alarmingly high rates.  It was later found to be related to 'cytokine explosion', where the body's own act of trying to fight the virus gets over-activated and actually causes more trouble.  So, here's the question (two-part)... What do you think the odds are of a similar pattern to the 'Spanish' flu in 1918, and if we see that, is the medical community capable of combating a "cytokine explosion", which apparently killed these young adults within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms.

Disclaimer: I know there are several significant differences between that virus and this one... but there's a lot of discussion about a fall recurrence of a massive outbreak.

The short answer is that, unfortunately, I don’t know.  We need more politicians and docs saying that.  This is like trying to predict the course of a hurricane coming up the coast.

I’m far from a virologist, but the H1N1 Spanish flu was a bit atypical. A more severe mutated wave 2 is more the exception than the rule.  Whether there’s  49% or a 1% chance of that happening...I have no idea.  I’m not sure if anyone else does either.

This is one of those hope for the best, prepare for the worst situations.  We can’t be holed up until then; it’s time to open the economy.  But there needs to be an open and honest dialogue with Americans that we’ll need to prepare for a rapid retraction back into total quarantine if red flags start flying.

That’s not entirely accurate.  It’s not a political conspiracy, but it is a manipulation.  Many people dying with the virus are being counted as dying from the virus, which are two very different things.  The true death toll of the virus is, in many ways, impossible to determine.

It's more likely the true death rate is higher than lower.

I am fully on board with Reagor sticking with 1 position...and I definitely get the rationale of wanting him to learn behind Desean.

But I still think he has more upside as an X.  First of all, I prefer xyz fluidity anyway.  That’s how you maximize space and matchups.  The Eagles, in recent years, have had a tendency to pigeon hole their personnel.  In an offense that features 2 TEs, we really don’t need a cinderblock footed possession style X-wr.  That’s archaic.  The X wr, who is up on the line, just needs enough strength to not be manhandled by a CB and the ability to run all the routes.  I think Reagor is eventually a perfect fit to be that guy.  Slender pure speed guys like Goodwin/Watkins/Hightower profile as nice Z wrs.  And as we learn what we have in those 3...for whatever brief time Desean has left...no one would complain about seeing Reagor and Desean on the field together.

That’s also most likely lower, much lower.

That's just seemingly more and more empirically wrong.  Sure many people have co-morbidities but many of the Covid deaths they can directly attribute to lung damage that wouldn't have been present but for the virus.  https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

I’m hoping we see DJax at the X to accommodate for Reagor at the Z in 12 personnel.

Who is the other 26' long jumper of the Eagles?

Marquise Goodwin, no? Maybe he was a triple jumper.

I’ve made it clear that I don’t think we’ll have a season so...

why sign anyone if they’re not going to play in 2020? That includes Peters, Adams, Clowney, and anyone else.

Brooks will have a year and a half to recuperate.

I have no idea what this means in terms of cap room and salary, the CBA, fans’ seats, etc but don’t hold your breath waiting for the refund.

How are you feeling?

No it’s not.  It’s simple arithmetic.  Numerator and denominator.

The actual numerator is smaller than what is used in calculations due to deaths with covid due to other co-morbidities.  The denominator is larger in reality due to testing limitations.

Yep Goodwin.  He participated in the 2012 olympics. Tied for first in the qualifying round but got 10th in the finals.  Granted he was doing it as a senior in college, but obviously still crazy impressive.

POP density is very low. If you read my posts on the subject you will see where I said if I lived in a highly populated area my perspective would most likely be different.

The point is a one size fits all solution is not the answer

Great, but did your county put in place any measures to have outanding numbers?  Or just rely on low density organically preventing the spread?

Up and down but mending. Fatigued. Light-headed.Tough to concentrate for more than a few minutes. My doctor said another week of this, but she and I and most importantly my wife are confident. I’ll be fine.

Rather spend money on Yannick but I don't think we have money. There's also the mystery about 2021

I know DE is a much more important position and Yannick would be an instant upgrade, but Jamal Adams is the best of the best.  I think even he makes more of an impact on this defense than Yannick would.  He'll also cost less money, but he will probably cost more draft compensation.  If I had to, I'd take Adams.

Good news. Hang in there.

So what happens if they do cancel the season? Do contracts get automatically extended by 1 year?

Life changing money is the best explanation, but it’s even more mind boggling that the Jets saw Gase up close and still hired him.

Gase is still getting a pass because of Peyton IMO. Though he shouldn't

I'd be fine with either but I don't see it happening. We aren't trading the picks either team would want and we don't have the money

To be honest if the cases keep rising, the only way the NFL season is going to happen is if the entire NFL moves to New Zealand for the season.

New Zealand has 16 120x60 meters stadiums and is COVID free.

You're right.  I am thinking about total deaths.

Without question, the most electric pregame was the 44-6 Cowboys game. It's not even close. Just about everyone went to the stadium that day assuming the game was going to mean nothing. When things started breaking right, the energy started developing until it reached a fever pitch just before gametime. I stayed down in the lower level concourse watching the Bucs/Bears/Vikings games until their conclusion. Charging upstairs for kickoff was unbelievably exhilarating.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tailgate energy prior to the Vikings championship game was higher. But that's because the stakes were already known. The out-of-the-blue element for the Cowboys game is what took it to the next level. Incidentally, there were more people strolling around the parking lot prior to that Vikings game than I have ever seen at any Eagles game ever. There were thousands and thousands of people there for the tailgating who then stormed the subway to head on to wherever they were going to watch the game on TV.

I don't get the chance to attend many games living in NC, but luckily, I was home for Christmas for the Cowboys massacre.  My friend's dad was the definition of a Negadelphian, and he gave me his season ticket and called me a moron for wasting my day by supporting this team.  We got there super early, and I remember it being a negative, dreary morning since the Eagles had almost zero chance to advance.  We were out in the parking lot listening to one of the games (I can't remember which one), but the team we needed won, and we bolted into the stadium to watch the other on TV.  The best memory was the 4 pm start time, and nobody was in their seat.  To this day, I don't know if the players ran out of the tunnel and thought, "WTF??!"  Everyone was huddled around TVs inside the stadium cheering like lunatics for the other 1 pm game we needed (I believe this was the Raiders beating the Bucs, which was highly unlikely).  But somehow it happened, we darted to our seats, and everyone poured into the stadium howling and cheering like I've never heard before.

I witnessed 2 Cowboys fans get into fights that day with Eagle fans, and only the Cowboys fans were escorted out.  Every time I left my seat, the defense picked off Romo or scooped up a fumble.  One of my groomsmen is a huge Cowboys fan (what an arse), and for his gift I gave him a personalized flask with the date of that game along with the score engraved on the side.

Yeah.  I feel like in high school we are planning for nothing. We may start but I don't think we make it very far in to the season.

Or the virus becomes less deadly. We see indications that may be happening, but we won't know for a long time.
