He's like 25 or 26. No one's worried about him losing his mobility or arm strength anytime soon.

All it takes is one bad play.  He got hurt on a QB sneak this year, and lost some games - could have been worse.

I hear what you are saying... he's actually only 24.  But, the reality is that his uniqueness will be less and less unique with each passing year.   More QBs entering the league will be more like him, defenses will find ways to combat it, and the risk to injury grows.   I'm not saying that he's not a superior athlete, a great QB or any of that.  But, the more you pay that position, the less you have available to spend everywhere else.  1 player eating up a quarter of the cap is just not a winning formula.  Just look at the Pats.  They knew that, and that's why that (surprise!) skirted around the rules and found ways to get money to Tom Brady without it counting against the cap.

When a QB eats 25% of the cap, you won't have the money to put into top OL, or top WRs or top RBs, or top defensive players.  Recent history says that teams with QBs at the end of their rookie contract are more likely to have team success than any other point in their career, because the team hasn't put tons of money into them, so they have the money to spend elsewhere.   It's a Catch-22.   Get the QB that can do all that, but then when the payday hits, you can get close, but can't get over the hump.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

If you break it down to the average 40 hours per week salary Mahommes is only making about $21,634 per hour.

That’s nothing. Bezos is like 10M/hr.

EDIT: Not even 25 yet...

F I’m older than Mahomes? What am I doing with my life 😞

Wait a few years... blink and you'll be older than just about every player in the league.   I'm not there yet, but I am close.

No doubt that it's not ideal. If you could pay him less, great. That's not realistic of course. But he is worth the money. He's an exceptional player in an offense tailored (scheme) to him perfectly. He's unique in that he makes it backyard football out there like Russell Wilson. It seems like 7-on-7 sometimes.

As far as injury goes, that goes for every player. That risk is always there.

The other point I would make, and it's one I've made before in here, is that paying a QB top dollar is becoming regular around the NFL. A third of the league will be paying a QB $30M+ per year in a couple years. If they're all doing it, it's no longer a detriment. And certainly no one would complain about paying Mahomes $45M per in comparison to another QB getting $35 or so.

So he has outs

6-7 years from now, 45m will be a steal, but it's gonna hurt till they get to 6-7 years.

You're just a late bloomer, don't worry. 🤣

I'm also slightly older than Mahomes and unsurprisingly have not signed a half a billion dollar contract either.

So Trevor Lawrence is gonna get a 600m deal about 5 years from now? lol

Tasted very good too!   I've still got a ways to go before it's superb.  One thing will be developing my own rub.   The one I used was too salty.  Still good, but next time... I build my own rub.  Or go with one of the 'fancier' ones on the internet.

That’s the secret. I do all kinds of rubs and if I brine, no salt.  If I use salt, I usually use kosher salt because it is coarser.  The juices run through it to coat the meat but when you move the meat as you cook some of it falls off.

I'm glad you brought up Russell Wilson and Seattle.  Since they have become more reliant on Wilson and less on their running game and their defense, they've not been the same.   Haven't gotten past the Divisional Round of the playoffs since they lost the Super Bowl at the 1 yard line, when they decided to throw rather than run the ball.  A situation where they are in the running but never good enough to really make a lot of noise in the playoffs.

The risk of injury is always of greater significance when it's a matter of losing 25% of your salary cap.  And as much as Wilson drives the Eagles nuts, that's not a huge deal to the rest of the NFC.  The NFL seems to all be following the same pattern... and the results speak for themselves.

2019 - Chiefs - QB on rookie deal.
2018 - Cheatriots - QB on under the table deal
2017 - Eagles- QB on rookie deal.
2016 - Cheatriots - See above.
2015 -  Broncos - Manning at QB on a 'cheap' deal as a last hurrah deal.
2014 - Cheatriots - See above.
2013 - Seahawks - QB on rookie deal
2012 - Ravens - Last year of Flacco on rookie deal.
2011 - Giants - year 1 of Eli's 2nd deal.
2010 - Packers - Year 1 of Rodger's 2nd deal.

See a pattern there?  Winning the Super Bowl means having a QB on a 'cheap deal'.  Rookie deal, vet prove-it deal, or year 1 of a 2nd contract, which is often the cheapest cost.

I think you are right.  I normally use kosher salt, but the salt in the pre-made rub had to be much smaller grain to 'flow' better.

Sorry.   It happens to all of us.

Eagles allowing Season ticket holders to opt out this year and get full refund.  Just got my email from the team.  Able to come back in 2021.  Expecting "substantially” less seats available for this season due to COVID and reductions that will need to be put in place.

He is. His style of play allows him to succeed with less around him imo. His ability to drop back beyond 7-steps and still make all the throws is such a nice leg up on the rest of the league. He's a unique player.

He has a ton of talent around him though. I'm curious if he'd still be as good with scrubs or just average players

Wilson gets talked about because he has had to put the team on his back and win games

Awesome looking.  l love ribs.

Tonight I am prepping a pork shoulder. Tomorrow I plan this guy’s method

https://www.thecreativeengineer.com/instant-pot-smoked-pulled-pork/

Four to six hours on either the wood smoker, if Home Depot has the woods I want, or on the grill if not as I have the mix of wood chunks I want.  Then into the instant pot as recommended. Then Bear Claws and pulled in about 1/2 the time.  I plan to let the meat sit a bit before I cut down, although I may not have to cut it down much as I have a smaller shoulder and will lose about 15-25% when I trim it. Pulled pork sliders   While I have the Instant Pot out, I will carmelize some onions to go with it.

BTW, anybody that does any pulled meats should own a pair of Bear Claws. For decades I used two salad forks and then saw a guy using Bear Claws.  On a good sized piece of meat, pulling could take quite a while. Bear Claws, we are talking minutes.

My wife uses the paddle attachment on the stand mixer.  I'm thinking that we might be over-pulverizing it though.  I'll have to look into the Bear claws.

I did a pork shoulder in the Instant Pot before the grill.  Turned out great, as it goes.   To 'crisp' it a bit, it gets broiled after it's pulled.

I've got a picnic shoulder in the freezer right now.  Those things are a great price a lot of the time, better than the Boston Butt.   I'm looking forward to putting that on the smoker soon.   Haven't decided if it's to be sliders or carnitas.  Might go carnitas as we are big into Mexican, and we have some cilantro, peppers and hopefully tomatoes coming on soon.
