I absolutely agree. However, you seem to walking a mental tightrope, with "understanding" on one side and "justification" on the other. Would this same mental exercise be appropriate for understanding Hitler?

Any scholar studying the rise of National Socialism in 1930s Germany would likely need to read Mein Kampf and its sequel, the unpublished Second Book.  I am not justifying either (heck, I suspect at the least Farrakhan influenced the assassination of Malcolm X) but I do think we need to understand the past to avoid past mistakes.  The Americans and its western allies understood that after WWII and implemented the Marshall Plan.  To seek retribution like happened after WWI, would have created a situation like Germany in the 1920s.

That many of the issues and disparities that led to the riots of the thirties and forties are being raised in the protests of this spring and summer, almost 100 years past is disturbing.  If we want to avoid a continuation of the prejudices that Farrakhan espouses, we must address those issues and disparities.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Dude, stop. Just admit you are off base here.

Jenkins didn't have to tweet a freaking thing about Jackson. Either just say it was wrong or don't interject yourself into the conversation. Period. He basically said Jewish people to the back of the bus. If you can't get that then you are nothing but an apologetic fanboy.

Are you still searching for that study?

I don't expect Jenkins to speak out about every wrong-doing. He has a specific focus that's important to him and I respect that. But putting his priority on a pedestal is no different to me than someone saying "Blue Lives Matter" or "All Lives Matter" in response to the BLM movement.

Sorry if I was misinterpreted, but I was attacking M. Jackson, not you.

I didn’t take it as such, but wanted to be clear to all just in case.

Jenkins says it's not his fight.  And the jewish issues are not black people's issues.

Yet a few weeks ago white people were being criticized for not speaking up for black rights.

Drew Brees was within an inch of his career ending for supporting them but speaking out against kneeling.

Apparently we are all supposed to care for them, in just the exact way they want us to.  But they don't have to care for anyone else. Not their fight.

Self serving.  Greedy. Bull crap.

F it. BLM isn't my fight either.  They can be on their own. They love division.  They can play their own "national anthem" and fight by themselves.

You use "they” a lot.

Did you watch the video? He said the comments were wrong and to allow those affected speak about their issues.

Nope, thanks. Just read the tweet

I went and listened to this anthem; it’s a very nice song and shouldn’t be offensive to anybody.  As a football fan, however, I did take note that it’s 3:30 in duration.  If the intention is to play the anthem in it’s entirety I’ll be doing even more channel surfing than normal prior to kickoff

If the season is canceled how does that impact next years draft? Teams wont be able to see if they failed at the 2020 draft to try and replace players. We wont be able to see if older players lost it so teams will likely have to either take a chance for the 2021 season or draft replacements

I don't watch college ball so I'm not able to take guesses on how that's going to impact the draft really. I assume that'll be a big problem though.

The message on Instagram was poorly worded. I agree. He shouldn’t say his issue is more important than anyone else’s.

I just don’t think we can be mad at him for pushing the issue that is affecting him most.

Absolute agree. I couldn't argue against that even if I wanted to. This falls on the side of "understanding" when it comes to the tightrope. However, exploring how Jews created conditions that fostered the hate directed at them is a thought process that falls on the side of "justification." It's a precarious process that needs to tread lightly.

Didn't understand why there is a "Black National Anthem" when I heard about it.

If you are fighting for equal rights and to be one country where everyone is treated equally etc. Wouldn't you accept only having one National Anthem to be one? I don't care either way, just makes no sense.

Yeah I don’t think he worded that perfectly, but it’s quite to leap to just say he’s dismissing it entirely.

It's poorly worded, at best. I wouldn't say its a leap since many people on here are interpreting it as dismissive. It's trending on twitter too with a lot of black people saying "yea, that's pretty dismissive."

He should have made two separate videos. Condemn the remarks and say all hate that is based on "X” is bad and then post another video later calling on the continued fight to find Taylor’s killer, etc. It’s wrong to tell Brees to STFU and listen and to turn around and gloss over and set aside anti-Semitism. It absolutely comes off as hypocritical.

I'm not mad at him either way. But I think H.E. brings a valid point if that's the case. And remember I said if that's the case, but why should I then care about both antisemitism and crimes by police against A.A. if that doesn't affect me?

The truth of the matter is that we should all care and try to make some kind of a difference against hate.

I think most just feel Jenkins is being a bit selective. He bashed Brees over having a view about taking a knee for days. I mean 5 min posts going on and on how wring Brees is and how sad it is. Jackson he just said one sentence, " It was wrong" and then just kept on about "We need to stay focused" which we all know what he meant what they should focus on. Honestly Jenkins would have been better off staying out of the topic. Everyone would. Just let it pass and move on.

From a historical point of view, I agree.

Unfortunately, because of the current political climate, stating something along the lines of, "David Duke could be a victim of his upbringing/environment” would certainly bring upon backlash...especially if the statement was made over social media.

Victim no, product yes.  He grew up in New Orleans. The prejudice and racism I saw in my early years in New Orleans leads me little doubt he is a product of that environment. He is six years older than me.

Well as the seasons start to get shorter I’m sure you’ll start to see some of the higher profiled players forego their season...

As for the pros... I’m more interested to know if these current rookie contracts would start next year or a year will be shaved off.

The draft will be a problem, but at the same time fascinating. You will probably see each team with a very different big board. It also is going to make almost every pick really valuable. You will more than likely see less trades, but the cost of trading up would probably be cheaper than any other year, is my guess.

It’s sad that it’s even needed, but I think about this way...when you don’t feel like you belong and you’ve been mistreated your entire life then you aren’t going to feel like that song speaks to you.

However, both teams are from the US, we really don’t need the anthem to play for every game.

I can't imagine contracts not just tolling if the season is canceled

Y know.... just because an attention **** or two have never heard of the black national anthem doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or has never existed.

or was sung by many many children in grade school like I, my siblings, and others did in the 1980s. Everyday. After the other national anthem.
