Malcolm Jenkins comments and the revisions by the media are telling.  It perhaps exposes where the narrow focus of BLM becomes unhelpful to their movement as the world moves on from the initial anger and looks to apply a similar standard to their perspective.  Perhaps the real lesson is that we are all wrong or say silly things at times and should be more forgiving of each others peccadilloes, rather than the mob rushing to cancel.

Sadly, I think societal divisions are what some people seek and they revel in how everyone is continuing to disagree with each other.  It helps they get what they want, and the audience is extremely captive at the moment...

Training Camp cannot come soon enough eh?

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

COVID papers got retracted because they hadn't gone through peer review, they were rushed out b/c in this environment there's a tradeoff between accuracy and timeliness. Not because of an agenda - the flood of COVID papers also means there are few reviewers with the time and expertise to review them.

Anyone who does extensive research knows there are a lot of "flaky" journals, and to avoid them for the most part. And never trust one paper, research is an on-going dialogue.

Though if you have good training in your field, you develop a "sixth sense" of when articles seem "too good to be true."

I write books, and I probably read 10+K articles for each book I write (and reject probably 75-90% as either irrelevant or just bad research).

Some actually went through a standard peer review, others expedited.  Obviously, all journals are not created equal, but even Lancet and NEJM had to backtrack on this.

But I'm not bitter or biased at all.  They rejected my COVID study 😆

Alright....180 from the politics.  3 questions for everyone.

1.  Why are you an Eagles fan?

2. Why did you first join the original version of the boards?

3. Why do you still spend this much time posting on the boards?

1. Grew up in Bucks County. For my friend's 8th birthday party, we were able to take a trip to the team complex and meet some of the players from the '96 roster like Troy Vincent, Ricky Watters, William Fuller, James Willis, Charlie Garner, and some others. It was a really fun time and the players were cool and patient with us being a group of kids.

2. Joined in high school when I was looking for an additional outlet to discuss the team with. I didn't have a lot of friends in high school, so I enjoyed talking with some of the knowledgeable posters on here.

3. Same reason for the second half of the above. I enjoy the knowledgeable posters on here and feel a sense of camaraderie knowing that all of us are in the same boat with the passion for this team. I live in Arizona now where there aren't a lot of Eagles fans.

My answers...

1.  Born in Philly.  Left at the age of 3.  Stuck with all 4 Philly teams while growing up in the NYC metro area out of loyalty to where my family came from.  Now, above all else, being an Eagles fan represents the shared experience with my Dad on countless Sundays over the years.

2.  I joined the boards in 2003 when I was in HS.  I was a DE/TE combo...good strength, good size, poor feet and below average times in all workouts (perhaps an interesting psych eval for my speed obsession?!?!).  I loved the Eagles and could not have a meaningful discussion with anyone else I knew about the team.  It was the first and only chance I had to actually talk Eagles football with other Eagles fans.

3. I become interested, like the rest of you, in the science of roster construction.  I liked talking about the deficits the Eagles have and how to address them (the birth of my negative reputation).  I'm also stubborn and hate being wrong.  So when the Eagles diverge from my incredible, flawless plans...I have been known to pout just a tad.  And then it actually emerged into this dysfunctional little community we have.  Sharing the SB triumph was a real high point.  Electronic communities and relationships are an emerging trend in our society...never my thing.  I mostly just use those platforms to show off my wife to people who made fun of me in middle school.  But the unusual friendships we have on this board are my small foray into being a millennial and not getting trapped in my own echo chamber and dated world.  I'm really not that old to call my world dated though.....

1. Born in philly. Kept my love of philly sports when i moved out here.
2. joined in 2001 but made a new account in 2003 after getting too many warning points. ah youth ignorance.
3. I am an eagles fan and i love talking about the eagles as well as other philly sports and love the convos we have here and always interesting topics to learn from as well. but Recently it makes it really hard To enjoy the eagles when when a lot of these players like desean, malik and Goodwin come off The way they do.

The nfl  has no idea the damage it’s doing to itself by becoming totally political now and there isn’t going to be a China audience to supplement the loses like with the NBA.

i think they lost something like 12% in ratings during the kneeling stuff the last time. This toxic environment is going to produce way more than a 12% audience decline.

lol

You honestly believe this issue would be enough to cause the ratings for ACTUAL LIVE FOOTBALL to suffer?  After the way this year's gone?

If the league happens (which I highly doubt at this point, but w/e), they will break every viewing record in existence.

Curious if they'll do anything about Malik

Also...

The non-science based civil/social academia world of peer review is a pretty fixed left echo chamber (picture a room or zoom full of JustRelax and Afans) so it's not exactly the absolute truth.

It's more complex than that, having waded through practically every reputable journal for useful articles (and you can find them everywhere, just that some gold fields are richer than others).

Most Humanities journals, including American Studies and other such, are full of crap. Have to weed out the jargon laden articles saying nothing from the few that provide good historical information. I'm not interested in the writer's opinion, I want useful facts that I can use.

Psychology right now is a disaster area, as serious questions have been raised about the validity of many "Seminal" studies. One problem is good data is hard to find, and it's also hard to project experimental studies into the real world.

Sociology is a mixed bag, some really bad ideologically driven crap, some good reviews and statistical studies. One problem is survey data, which has some value but can be easily warped by bad wording of questions or improper population sampling.

Political Science journals tend to be pretty main stream ideologically, very statistically oriented these days b/c there's lots of data on voting, campaign contributions, etc.

Economics is pretty main stream, economists are cold-blooded ****, for one thing.

Because everyone in the field these days has a strong statistical background, it's harder to pull a fast one without your peers catching you.

Business journals are a mixed bag, a lot of junk, some good articles, especially when a researcher can get hold of a proprietary database that provides detail on business activities. But like economics articles, you can torture the data until it confuses, but if there's no information there, crap in - crap out.

History journals tend to be reliable, although historians slant left, failure to document the facts sufficiently can ruin a career (like the colonial gun ownership controversy). Focus on the facts and ignore the opinions.

Pretty good post here from former player, Uche Nwaneri:

Would you want it any other way?  I wouldn't.

That's about right, it's a first offense, it was stupidity, and they're gonna give Djax a chance at redemption.

Screw up again, suspension and eventually cut.

The idea that people should be destroyed b/c they say or post something stupid is wrong, unless of course, they stubbornly insist on the "error of their ways."

If players convicted of battery against their wives/girlfriends can eventually be reinstated, words should not have such severe consequences.

So, give me the quotes by those leaders, ideally with their names. I have a hard time identifying these leaders, as the movement seems broad and multi-faceted.

Many years ago I heard Malcolm X speak at Hunter College. After he spoke he took questions and a young white woman asked what she could do to help and he said, "Nothing.”

The NFL isn't even consistent with that lol

1. Born and raised in south Jersey just over the bridge. My grandpa worked for the state and was always getting free tickets to games and wasn’t a huge sports fan so me and my dad got to go to plenty of the big 4.

2. Joined the old boards around 2004 during the T.O. Baltimore saga. The only news source was sports radio or daily articles, so I stumbled on the boards to read tons of rumors which were basically all bs.

3. This is still, IMO, the best source for actual good Eagles discussion. Reddit sucks and Facebook/Twitter comments are mostly morons or beyond trolls. Plus I can venture around to other parts of the board for different subjects.

Didn't understand why there is a "Black National Anthem" when I heard about it.

If you are fighting for equal rights and to be one country where everyone is treated equally etc. Wouldn't you accept only having one National Anthem to be one? I don't care either way, just makes no sense.

I dont think all African Americans want equality for everyone.  Some of them do want to be segregated.  Same with white peeps.  Goes both ways.  We all are never going to be one big happy family here on Earth.  Just worry about your real family, close friends and those you care about and respect no matter what color, sex or religion they are.  That's all you can do.  Dont try to save world peace cuz it will never happen.

Did he mean "nothing" as in we dont want your help or as in you cant help because we have to fix things ourselves?

Interesting... you are younger than me.   I always figured you were older than me.

1 - Born in the Philly burbs.  4 for 4 guy.  I don't know how i became an Eagles' fan.  I think I was just born that way, there was never an alternative.  My brother would be a fan of the 49ers during the 80s (he claimed it was because Joe Montana had a resemblance to our youngest uncle, which he did... but I think that was a convenient excuse for front running).   Meanwhile, I raged at the idea that a person could like more than one team, for any reason, and not the geographically logical one.  My brother's oldest son is now a Houston Texans fan in addition to an Eagles' fan.  Bull.  It doesn't work that way.

2 - I joined in 2003, I think.  I would have joined sooner, because I was looking for a spot with better discussion than the local talk radio.  Brutal.

3 - I don't know.  I need a new hobby, I think.   But, right now I am gardening, smoking (bbq folks... bbq!!!) and even started a vermicomposting box.  So, maybe I have my other hobbies.

1. My dad and his family are all from Philly and they moved to florida when he was a teenager, so he raised me as Philly fan and I've loved every minute of it (well, maybe not every minute)

2. I had been watching eagles live every summer in high school but when I got to college that was right around the time they ended it. I think I had signed up for the boards a couple years earlier but never actually ventured in, eventually I lurked for a bit and then started posting cause I didn't have many friends who were eagles fans so I had no one to talk to about it.

3. I still don't have many friends who are eagles fans lol I also enjoy talking about hockey here. I used to frequent Broad Street Hockey a ton but once Charlie left I thought it took a nose dive off a cliff in terms of content, the articles all seemed to be people trying too hard to be funny instead of focusing on hockey, so I joined the Athletic but discussion in comment sections can get tedious to read and keep up with.

Hell hath no fury like the s*** storm that would emerge if they were to release Desean over this after extending Cooper.

Lurie made the right call.

I think this is tone deaf and likely he didn't address it correctly. There's an implied direction towards the black community to me, i.e. :

Quote

The black community can honor Jewish heritage and trauma while staying focused on what matters to us currently. Jewish people aren't the black community's problem and we aren't their problem. Let's not lose focus on what the black community's problem truly is, and that's that black lives still don't matter in this country.

Push this energy toward arresting and convicting the killers of Breonna Taylor and burning systemic racism to the ground.

This is the way I took it. The problem, to me, is his use of we leaves it sounding like he means we as Americans or we as a society. He's basically just saying that black society should be worried about their own and not get distracted from their main goals while they have the attention of more than their hard core activists. In that light, I don't have a huge issue with what he said, though understand that some are still going to find it problematic and there are problematic aspects.

1. I’m an Eagles fan because of Randall Cunningham and the Kelly green jerseys. I grew up in Omaha, so there were no local teams. Kansas City was the closest thing and for some reason I despised them.

2. I joined the boards probably in the mid-2000s because I didn’t know any other Eagles fans and other message boards were terrible.

3. I continue to post here so much because I don’t have enough hobbies and outside my family I’m most passionate about the Eagles. This place even in its newer form is as close to an Eagles community as I’ll ever get. I will never live in the area.

I'm not mad at him either way. But I think H.E. brings a valid point if that's the case. And remember I said if that's the case, but why should I then care about both antisemitism and crimes by police against A.A. if that doesn't affect me?

The truth of the matter is that we should all care and try to make some kind of a difference against hate.

This I agree with and that is the still problematic part of Jenkins messaging on this topic.
