Alright....180 from the politics.  3 questions for everyone.

1.  Why are you an Eagles fan?

2. Why did you first join the original version of the boards?

3. Why do you still spend this much time posting on the boards?

1. Back entering week 4 of the 92 season, both the Birds and Cowboys were 3-0, and a big deal was made of it in my school. At the time, I didn’t yet hate Dallas, but I had no ties to them so I planned on pulling for the Birds. The Birds killed them 31-7 and I've been a fan since.

2. I don’t recall the circumstances that led to me signing up.

3. I spend a lot of time posting because a high post count is the first step in my plan towards world domination.

Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Alright....180 from the politics.  3 questions for everyone.

1.  Why are you an Eagles fan?

I am from Hawaii, 3rd generation born and raised there, my family immigrated from the Azores and Madeira when Hawaii was still a Kingdom and my great great grandfather voted in the last monarch election there. Well as with others we don't have any teams there but we did get the ProBowl every year then. I went in 1989 and watched Randall play and got interested. I then started watching games and came across an NFL Films documentary about the hardest hitting players and one of the players said "The entire Eagles defense." I then started watching the Buddy Ryan era in Philly and became a true fan. Been a fan ever since.

2. Why did you first join the original version of the boards?

To get Eagles news and to waste time at work honestly. I have never been around a decent amount of Eagles or NFL fans and when I was they never wanted to talk to the depth that I wanted to. Always casual fans who may or may not know who the back-up QB was, much less the back-up linemen/special teamers/practice squad guys. It doesn't help that I am a gamer and geek and sports are not a huge thing in my general circles of friends. I came to the old boards to get my fix and started off with a bunch of the RnR guys before they got moved to WU, as well as here for Tommy's game reviews and the overall discussion level. I slowly migrated here only after I couldn't spend as much time on here and therefor couldn't do this thread and still keep up with everything WU.

3. Why do you still spend this much time posting on the boards?

I don't spend as much time as I used to or even maybe would like. I do like coming here and reading and learning about points of the game I never really looked at as in depth. Being here over time gave me a much better idea of OL play (thanks JR) as well as the depth of the draft and such. Anytime I hear Eagles news, I always think of you guys first because I know that there will be more insight here than any conversation I could have with any of the football fans I know from other teams.

1. Randall Cunningham.  I was born in Green Bay, a mile from the stadium so technically I should be a Packers fan.  All of my family is in Philly however and we moved back here when I was young.  Randall got me hooked.  I just loved that style of QB play.  Was a huge John Elway fan too with the way he could run around and make plays.

2.  Either when they stopped making Eagles Digest or when Training Camp Live in it's prime.  Fun fact, I called the Sam Bradford trade before it happened on the boards and everyone thought I was nuts.

3.  Good question.  I'm really starting to sour on the NFL and the political trends they are taking.  I want football and the escape from all the BS we are surrounded by.  I really enjoy discussing the roster and roster building decisions.  Currently it does give an opportunity to vent about current events where I can't do it at work and refuse to do kind of talking on social media.  95% of the time we have great discussion in here from all angles and viewpoints.  We are able to have conversations about society and at the end of the day we still come back to Eagles football.

Afan, just curious, do you know how many of those articles were published by testifying "experts” to establish their credentials as peer reviewed experts?   You know that happens more than either side of the bar than is admitted.  I am always a bit skeptical.

This presentation contains some information we need to consider:

https://www.hks.harvard.edu/sites/default/files/centers/wiener/programs/pcj/files/PoliceandPublicDiscourseBlackonBlackViolence.pdf

These aren't the kind of journals you'd submit those kinds of articles to, most of these are top of the profession, and aren't directly related to forensic science.

That paper is interesting, it shows what I've read elsewhere, the high concentration of urban blacks, in poor, segregated areas with limited access to mass transit and jobs creates the ideal environment for violence - something we've seen in cities since Hell's Kitchen (Gangs of New York). Note that only 1% of black males in these areas are actually involved in gang related activities associated with a high rate of homicide - so focusing on those individuals makes far more sense than "criminalizing" the entire black male population.

Studies have shown one of the most effective ways to both improve school performance and reduce violence is to get those families out of urban ghettos and into integrated, middle class neighborhoods. Without a critical mass of "bad guys," most kids don't drift into gangs or trouble.

This is why we need evidence based policing with strict oversight rather than the police as an "occupying army."

The Eagles really botched the DJax situation bad. Not the first time we’ve said that...

1.  Grew up in Houston as an Oilers fan.  Moved to south central PA in 1989.  Obviously, I wasn’t going to be seeing Oiler games, so I looked for a more local team to cheer.  The TV stations I received showed Steelers, wasteam and the Eagles. I wasn’t going to cheer for the Steelers as they were a division opponent. Both wasteam and the Eagles hated the cowpads, which made both teams attractive. But I was a PA resident and next to Texas, PA people are almost as crazy about football.  When that a-hole Bud Adams moved the Oilers to Tennessee, I was done with them.
2. Around 2003 the first time, 2005 as BigEFly.  I lost my email I used for the first signup and back then there was no cure when I forgot my password.
3.  I have always like the draft process and I was on PE.com and found the boards and then Scouts Notebook.  I ran into Afan back then and Tommy mentioned the Blog.  I came over.   I was hooked.   I have grown to know a little about a bunch of you and it’s like sitting with Norm and Cliff at the bar.

Sounds financial plus.  Strong statement about remaining a member of the team.  Wonder if Malik is pushing so hard because he realizes he isn’t starting.

Malik should be thanking his lucky stars that Jenkins botched his video because it’s moved the spotlight that should be shining a blinding light on his idiocy.

Man... I forgot the old AFC Central.   Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Houston.   It never sat right with me that the AFC Central and NFC West only had 4 teams, and the rest had 5.   I couldn't even do the math back then, but I knew that it meant that those teams had an easier time winning their division, 1 in 4 versus 1 in 5.

I had an old cardboard piece from an Eagles soap on a rope.  I kept it to study the divisions, helmets, etc.  I used to free hand draw all the helmets.   Some were far easier than others.   I never got the (old) Patriots, Buccaneers, or Raiders.   Faces are hard!

When I was younger I decided the Oilers were my "AFC team.” I loved Warren Moon and their jerseys. I was devastated that they constantly choked in the playoffs.

1. Why are you an Eagles fan? - Grew up in the suburbs, went to Penn for a couple degrees. Dad had tickets to Franklin Field. Bleed green.

2. Why did you first join the original version of the boards? Don't remember, was on another Eagles board in the 1990s, migrated to the Blog. Worst was trying to get on with a 300 baud modem in the late 1990s. In Austin, I needed solidarity, surrounded by Cowgirl fans.

3. Why do you still spend this much time posting on the boards? To avoid writing! I've got a bunch of projects I have to start, having pretty much finished the research, but I'm also a full time caretaker and don't get enough sleep. So screwing around on a message board is a good way to procrastinate.

That's an interesting take.  So, his whole thing might be his way of blowing up the relationship to force their hand to let him go.   Sadly with his contract structure, he'd have to renegotiate so that they can actually afford to dump him.

Cap hit jumps $13M if they dump him.  They are stuck with him, unless he gives back some of that signing bonus and restructure back.   And then in 2021, the Eagles have to decide whether or not to keep him for $13.6M or to dump him and save $1M on the cap... good news is that if they drop him after 2020, they don't carry any extra cost forward past 2021.

I loved drawing the helmets and also collecting the gumball helmets.

As a kid I hate to admit, the Steelers were my "AFC" team to cheer for.  I know it's frowned upon by many on the boards to cheer for anyone but the Eagles.  I loved Barry Foster, Rod Woodson, Greg Lloyd and Kevin Greene.  Hate Larry Brown to this day.

Yep. I’m way more frustrated with Malik Jackson right now then to Sean. Monique keeps doubling down on his stupidity every single night and not just with like Farrakhan like on a variety of things

The first rule of caretaking is to take care of yourself. Easy to say, not so easy to do. Been there a couple times; it was hard and I didn’t sleep much either.

Is Alshon in a position to be ready for the start of the season? I feel like things have been pretty quiet on his end regarding his progress/status unless if I missed something.

There have been mentions of him about to start running a week or two ago

We were kids. It’s ok to have a secondary team then.

What should they have done differently?  It seems like they are really trying to educate Desean, they've fined him, and they released statements that were super critical of what he did.  Do you think he should have been cut?

As an aside, while I don’t have a "second” team as an adult, I do find teams that I enjoy watching and hope to see win once the Eagles are out. I was happy as hell for Andy Reid to finally get one. I wouldn’t have felt the same way if we hadn’t won LII.
