Right... but we are talking about the 3 wildcard teams for 17 games.  You are just focused on this year. I don't care about just this year. I'm talking the future of the league ...which combines more playoff teams and more regular season games.  It's what matters, not just the one extra playoff team.

Nope. We are talking about the same thing here. The future of the league. I’m never been talking about just one year.

Howie Roseman brings up that he views getting DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery back as part of the WR core improving in 2020 #Eagles

Okay we have the above statement and we have the below. Lets take a vote. Is Jeffery with the club the hole 2020 season or not?

www.endzonetd.com/latest-eagles-move-confirms...

Apr 28, 2020 · At this point, we are just waiting for the press release detailing that Alshon Jeffery is gone. All signs point to the former Pro Bowler’s exit but this latest move confirmed the rumor. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles traded for San Francisco 49ers wideout Marquise Goodwin

My vote is he is gone

HAM.. whatever works for you... I have mt preference... you have yours... you must be hating missing the first round of the NBA playoffs... those exciting 7th and 8th seeds boy!!!  PHEW  .. great ratings!   But not like those Jets... Robbie Anderson means ratings!!!

You prefer preseason game to a regular season game

Ham, I'm not confused. I've been talking about 7 playoff teams with 17 games the whole time. I think you are confused because you are just looking at one thing.

My scenarios were not hypothetical.  Its what happened after 16 games last and what we would have been going into week 17 with.   Those were the standings after 16 games. No longer " final standings" anymore... it will be with one more game left.  That is a huge factor when looking into who will be battling for the 7th seed... but also who won't need to play for anything in week 18. It all matters.

How is this not hypothetical? You are taking the new rules and applying it to last year where it didn’t exist. Were we talking the 17th game added on? The  extra wild card team? both? Not like we started the conversation with all these parameters set. We worked our way into all this convo.

The only two rumors out there that I have read is Jeffery back to the Bears and Jeffery to the Colts. Haven't read anything in over two weeks though.

So who is your "underdog team" this year.I mean who will come out unexpectedly?.If I had to choose 1,I would say AZ.I think they will be better than people think.Tough division, not saying they will win it,but I think they will surprise some teams

I’m liking what the Panthers are putting together.

I don't care how good a player is. If he's a cancer in the locker room he isn't worth having around.

Well some of the cancer was Rosie. He signed Alshon to a guarantee for no reason. Realized he screwed up and then tried to trade him. Most any player will be salty if you sign a contract and they try and trade you behind your back. It’s a little underhanded. Plus players want control over where they play if possible. That’s a big factor. Alshon had a little right to be pissed about that. NFL it’s just business....but that was a little slimy even for the NFL business.

But yes No Mas, there are two new changes. So it’s two things. We could try and apply it to every past season. I’m sure we’d have the whole gambit of results. The one thing we didn’t mention was the teams that did not suit guys up week 17 that would have because there was a week 18. And like I keep bringing up :matchups. Because I actually think who you have to play matters. Saints swore if we had to play them our  SB season they’d have won it all. Maybe we got lucky. Maybe we beat the Saints. They obviously haven’t been a good matchup for us. So it matters. It’s not always to play the lowest seed even. It’s more about the specific matchup.

I obviously realize the addition. Never didn’t. But like I said the lines got blurred between hypothetical and real in our discussion. But it’s an extra week of football. The trade off is they took away the fourth preseason game. So you’d rather have the fourth so meaningful preseason game than a 17th regular game?

Ham... why do you not follow. It's very simple.

We move to 17 games.  We move to 7 playoff teams.

With those changes implemented to what occurred last year.   Instead of jumping right to the playoffs.   We would have the 17th game of the season.  With the standings where they were last year, I showed how certain playoff teams would not have anything to play for in regular season week 18 ( 17th game)  instead they rest and you get a battle for the last playoff spots. Those battles would have been Steelers, Colts, Jets, Raiders, Broncos.... and Rams,Bears Cowboys.

For me... on that 2nd weekend in January,  I would prefer to go right to the playoff games.   Don't need good teams not playing in a BS season finale just so I can watch a few mediocre teams battle.    The extra fluff weekend kills the season momentum for me.  16 games is enough. 6 playoff teams is enough.

I'm sorry the Pat's had it easy... how about instead of worrying about that part, how about 3 franchises work on avoiding being brutal for 2 decades.  Unprecedented,  and hope we don't see it on that scale ever again ... 3 teams in one division that are so pathetic.  But it's not a good enough reason for me to add more fluff at the end. Neither is worrying about giving 7-9 teams a chance to get in.

I would rather good teams not make it, than average teams getting in.  It's what separates the NFL and the sport of football from all the others... every game is important.  I would prefer to keep it that way.  We had a ton of injuries the last 2 years and were able to fight our way in twice...that bad luck is part of it.   It is what it is.

We can agree to disagree,  I'm fine with that.  Let's see how you feel the last week or two of this year..  and then going forward when both 7 and 17 are implemented.  While NE stinks!  You might change your mind!

See we got Clement back, hope he's healthy, guess the guys can get checked out some how.

Me...yes, because I don't watch preseason... maybe the first series or quarter of game 1. So I can deal with meaningless football before the season starts... since it has no effect on my life. But I don't like meaningless football the 2nd week of January which is what will occur now.

I would prefer 2 preseason games...home and away.  Weeks 1 and 3 of the current schedule. Practice to me is more important.  But if a choice,  get the meaningless games done in August instead of January.

Clement back and our RB stable are all young and hungry athletic guys.  Love it. Love when you have that in a position that gets beat up like RB.  That fresh youth to keep trying to out do each other.

I read somewhere that Clement said he felt like he lost his family. I thought they might bring him back but wasn't completely sure.

Alright so back to last season but adding an extra week and extra playoff team. You talked about the bottom guys trying to get in.Steelers, Colts, Jets, Raiders, Broncos.... and Rams,Bears Cowboys.  So that just a big addition. All these fans are rooting hard for their chance to get into the playoffs.  You omitted that we have a better chance of getting DJax back for the playoffs. That sure would have been nice. Could have been season changing for us in a great way. But let’s also talk about the top best teams. Niners, Packers and Saints all would be battling out for position still. Would have been fantastic. Could have changed everything. All of them at 13-3 with one more game to play. You would have been glued to that. Best of the best right. Might have had a different NFC Champion easily with the result of that 17th game and an extra playoff team. Could have been a completely different NFC Championship Game in fact. And let’s not forget the AFC. Pats and KC have one more week to battle for the two seed. What happens? Maybe the Pats win the two seed with one more game to be played. But KC doesn’t get the bye either way. Does KC win the SB without a playoff bye?
So you have week 18 more battling at the bottom for the last playoff spot. And you have more battling at the top for crucial positioning. You get it all. Eagles don’t have to play week 18 hard...but we do get a shot at having DJax back for the playoffs. Pretty big stuff.

Easy to follow if you start off like that. We were talking about having an extra playoff team. Then looked at what happened last season to figure out how 7 playoff teams would be good or bad for each conference. Didn’t really establish like you did here of ok let’s take all the new rules and apply things. Obviously two big changes. Separate things. The 18 week schedule is another beast than the 14 playoff team setup. Getting rid of a fourth preseason game for an extra real game. Seems like you’d be a fan of that.

I mean why stop there. If we are applying all the new rules. How are things ending on week 18 after so few padded practices during TC and the season? Probably more injuries, right? Guys aren’t in as good of football shape coming into the season. Easy to assume sloppier NFL product week one also, right? One less preseason game gives less time for many guys across the league to make a roster. So 53 man rosters are changed also. And heck they got rid of pass interference review. First we’d head about how pissed people were nothing was done. But a few games would be changed over the no review, right? We’d have to really dig deeper to figure out if it maybe didn’t make the difference in a win/loss with somebody. And now we have bigger rosters and PS. How does that effect the results last season? Ward and Perkins actually on our team week one. Could have meant an extra win for us.

No guarantee Clement makes it, going to be a fun position to keep an eye on;

1 - Miles Sanders

2 - Boston Scott

3 - Corey Clement

4 - Elijah Holyfield

5 - Michael Warren

6 - Adrian Killins

Plus the article on BGN says it sounds like we're looking to add a veteran RB

Cool, obviously like him. I was surprised we didn’t draft a RB honestly.

Clement is a good hard runner that is a great compliment to Scott. With him being undrafted and having such a huge clutch receiving SB you gotta root for him.

Ham. .not going to bother reading your whole thing.  I just keep it simple. For me on January 8th-12th or whatever weekend date that is... I'm ready for playoffs... those teams you want to see battle, I  don't want to put the other teams on pause.  I don't care about getting DeSean back...etc.  It will never change my mind to make it work just for my team.   I want playoff football to start rather than another week of fluff for 25 teams so 7 teams that are. 500 can battle it out. It's just. For you it can be different... the excitement works for you from last years Jets. It doesn't for me, I want to get a move to the really good teams battling it out.

It's my preference.  You can't change it. Just like I can't change your excitement for 7-9 teams going to battle.  It is what it is. Let's agree to disagree.

Here is a simple explanation... this might finally hit home.

I like football in the fall.  I like it after Labor Day to New Years. Then I like January playoffs.. ok with it but not thrilled that we finish in Feb.

I don't watch preseason... so I don't care what they do.  I don't want football to last longer than it does.  Once I  get into the flow after Labor day,  I don't like bye weeks, I  don't like meaningless games at the end.  I like getting in rhythm and staying there for those 4-5 months. I don't want any extra games added on...nor more playoff teams to cause more meaningless games for the higher seeded teams that are already locked in. Get the 16 games in.. make the top 6 and move on without excuses.  You have injuries too bad. A fluke play... too bad.  Wait til next year.   Keep the rhythm and get right into the offseason.

Obviously you didn’t read it. You want to get to good teams battling it out. Exactly what I explained would have gone on week 18 last year. The top teams would have been in a dog fight that last week.

They got rid of a fourth preseason game and swapped it for an extra regular season game. Sounds like that would agree with you.
