See what I did there?  Anyone?

Just saying a Twinkie sounds amazing right now.

You should watch this. You just might be the sensitive flower yourself

Don't want to split hairs here, but RO.  Hurts wasn't capable of a simple read and keeping his eyes on a spot for a 1/4 second so the RPO was scrapped from the playbook.  Maybe he'll get good at it in the off season and we can revolutionize the NFL with the Double R PO!

I guess that would be the RDO. Run (QB) Draw Option

I mean any coaching job has drawbacks. What coaching job out there is going to better? The Panthers, Raiders, Broncos and Bears are the other likely slots.  I don't think any of them have a better QB situation. I think Raiders likely have more talent but that place seems like it's a likely zoo.  The Jags have problems in the FO.  I do think Doug could get the team coached up and performing on offense.

Depending on how much credit is given to Doug on the Rise and Fall of Carson Wentz, written by Doug Pederson, he may have the upper hand for the Jaguars job, or he was interviewed just because Baalke knows Doug won’t come for his job.

Caldwell would be a better pick for the Jags organization as a whole. He did a pretty good in Detroit, and is known for being a calming influence, after Meyer, that should matter.

As a Pro Wrestling fan (explains a lot right) I know that Shad Khan’s son Tony, owns his own wrestling promotion that was started and still is probably running on Daddy’s money. This matters because for whatever reason,  Baalke didn’t really go after free agents this past offseason and I believe they have close to 70 million in cap space this up coming offseason. No excuse not to spend money.    Baalke doesn’t have a good name around the league, he’s known for being a snake, but if he’s willing to spend Khans money, that would be an ideal job with no pressure, and supposedly, a really good prospect at QB.

Shad can’t run the Jags like Tony runs AEW. Tony essentially pays big money to WWE’s leftovers/cuts since they have the largest TV distribution behind WWE and it’s the only somewhat big alternative to being on WWE television.

No NFL player wants to live/play in Jacksonville. I’m sure they’ll overpay for some mediocre talents in the offseason but no successful, big named FA will want to sign there.

I think Doug might end up with the Bears depending on who they bring in as GM; both Pace and Nagy will surely be gone after the season.  If Doug actually preferred moving forward with Hurts, CHI would provide him the opportunity to work with a similar QB in Fields

Im looking at RBs. Ive been through the top 7 on TDN's rankings.

My order so far would be

1. Walker

2. Charbonnet

3. Haskins

4. Spiller

5. Breece Hall

Im not interested in Kyren Williams. Hes a Boston Scott type.

Badie is intriguing as a 3rd down option due to his extreme speed, but he has no business being  6th overall on a list of RBs. He needs to be ranked in the separate classification of 3rd down backs.

I dont know why Haskins is 7th on the TDN list. He could arguably be 2nd on my list at this point. However. Charbonnet just looks to be little bit bigger, and a little more dominating. Which says a lot because Haskins runs like Lynch. But,  Charbonnet looks like a Blount clone. Could it be an optical illusion since Charbonnet is running through Pac12 defenders and Haskins is running in the big10? It might be. But I think its real.

If you get a chance, check out Rachaad White, 6’2” 210.
Juco kid till 2020 when he went to Arizona St, he didn’t do much, but in 2021 he’s been under the radar, 181 carries, 1000 yds 15 tds.  He’s a pass catcher, 43 rec - 456 yds.

He is an upright runner that doesn’t really have top end speed, but an underrated receiver out of the backfield that isn’t getting arm tackled, by anyone.
If he’s available on day 3, it’s a steal, but his draft stock could helped by his coach having NFL ties.

My comment was more along the lines of spending money, a better coach will attract better talent eventually, if he has success. They will have to overpay, but better than mediocre talent will go if they overpay enough and put together a few winning seasons. If Lawrence is the guy, they’ll need two really good drafts in a row, for that to happen.
Pointe Vedra Beach where Tiger lives is 25 minutes to Jacksonville, plus Florida has no income tax, basically anything to get agents to unblock Trent Baalke’s phone number.

Because Lovie did pretty well there I was thinking they might go for a defensive coach, completely forgetting about Fields, duh!  I also forgot they had John Fox between Trestman and Nagy.  I was taking Doug out of the conversation because of the Ex Andy Reid guy, even though he did win a SB, but it didn’t take long for things to turn bad here.

hurts is awful

Imagine John Madden's commentary on a play where Hurts runs in a circle behind the LOS.

The city of Jacksonville has established apathy towards football, but that's not really a deterrent to many players.  It's a very desirable place to live, probably more so than the majority of NFL cities.  The organizational dysfunction has to be the biggest deterrent.

In the NBA, salaries are so high for any decent starter that money is almost no object.  They can play GM and form their own super teams.  In the NFL, careers are short and unpredictable...players will generally follow the best financial security.  Only a select few later career guys who already have that security will select teams based on winning.  However, no one wants to be the butt of all the jokes.  They'll still avoid dysfunctional franchises where they can see players go to die and have no value with subsequent contracts.  Jacksonville tops that list at the moment.

I wouldn't want to hitch my wagon to Fields.

A coaching change with a 2nd year QB is a rough situation.  You are limited to coaches who like your guy.  And if your guy is flawed, you are basically limited to coaches that are either just happy to get the job or don't know what to look for in a qb.

At the end of the day Jacksonville and even Cleveland for awhile was similar to a 1 year prove it deal.

Someone with a struggling career, no career, or coming back from an injury can go there, probably get good playing time and use it as an audition for the rest of the league.

At the end of the day playing for the jaguars is better than being on a practice squad, the CFL or a UPS driver.

At least a UPS driver has a better uniform

The thing I respect about Madden is he knew football was suppose to be fun. We are suppose to root for our team to make the playoffs. People are more interested in the cap, the draft, analytics. We have have a great chance to make the playoffs. Let it be fun.

Oh no Hurts under threw the ball. Smith caught it but i cant enjoy that play because it wasnt a perfect pass. Why even watch football if you’re gonna be that way?

The beauty of connecting on the under-thrown ball is usually the spectacular effort made by the WR to bail out his QB, not on the under-thrown ball itself. By definition a ball that is under-thrown is a mistake.

Usually you're correct. There are times when a ball is purposely under-thrown in an attempt to get a PI call.

Gainwell has struggled a bit but shown more than enough to justify a 5th rd pick. NFL passing game is more sophisticated than college so expect some growing pains.

I would argue that Gainwell looks more capable and less confused in our passing game than Miles Sanders.

Interesting to note…of every team with an extensive COVID list (which is almost everyone and includes the Eagles), the Eagles have definitely managed to have the least amount of talent on it.  It’s like we locked half the bad players in a room with a Covid patient.

BTW... how is your son doing?    My wife and I just came down with Covid.  Not fun, but mostly mild symptoms.  Chills hit this am early.  Disrupting sleep more than anything else.
