How much do we need to pay a team to get Barnett off our hands?  A fifth in 2023?

Let him walk at end of year and hope someone overpays him as a FA. He's just a comp pick to me now.

Doesn't really save us anything to move him.  Might as well just cut him.

I would be happy if he was cut today. I know it stretches our already thin d-line even thinner, but I don't care anymore. I really get angry watching Barnett out there. Any flag on defense, I just wait for the refs to announce it's on #96.

Allows us to be sellers! No more false hope like last year.

Hope the Eagles can get something for Sanders, though they probably killed his value.

It's a shame that Mailata is hurt, yesterday would have been a great test to see if he could play RT with Dillard at LT.  Not that having a LT commit 4 penalties gives us much to look forward to.  Yes, I know Hurts/RPO.

I don't understand the thinking of moving a potentially dominate top 3 LT to RT. If Dillard doesn't work at RT draft another, but keep him where he can be one of the top tackles in the league.

I don’t think most people think there’s a chance the Eagles can win this division anyway, but in case anyone still has hope, look at the Eagles next 4 games and then look at Dallas’ and the Eagles will likely be 5 games back by early November.

This season is going to be a bummer. As awful as last season was at least there was some drama headed into the late season with how bad the division was. Not going to have that this season most likely, barring injury to key Cowboys players.

This season can be compelling because...

  • Need to see what we have in Hurts
  • Figure out if Sirianni and Gannon are the guys.
  • Get to watch the young WRs develop.
  • Looking for Mailata and Dickerson to improve.
  • See what we have in other young players (Williams, McPhearson, Driscoll, Jackson)
  • Get to root against the Dolphins.
  • Get to count Carson's snaps.
  • Get to pay attention to multiple college prospects at the top of the draft.

Not so much a bummer, but a different kind of rooting.

The best thing to come out of the last 2 weeks has been discovering that Dillard is a NFL quality LT.

Some of us have been saying the Philly beat writers have been lying to you, all along.

That's crazy.

By the numbers, Hurts has been a...average QB this year. Given the 4 game sample, sounds right.

Who is Mills?(bottom left)

This is true, but even when there are other things to follow or in a season when you're rooting for draft position, there's something special about football season when your team is in a playoff race and the weather gets cold. Even if your team sucks. There's just a buzz in the air around the city that simply isn't there when the Eagles are out of it by Thanksgiving.

What I love about football season isn't just gameday, but the whole experience of it. This season will lack that most likely.

How much worse could any free agent be than him? Hardly ever any positive plays at least not that I can remember.

BTW, Dillard took some snaps at RT!! Not many, but a few.

Unbalanced line?

Hurts throwing to his first read 95% of the time really limits the offense. He's not allowing plays to develop and and let guys get open down the field. It's one of the reasons the red zone offense has been so bad, there was one play when Hurts through a screen to his first read despite it having no chance of getting any yards. The offense is handcuffed with Hurts in there, and it doesn't allow for the other skilled players to have opportunities.

Of course the QB is throwing to the primary read the majority of the time, that is the way football plays are designed. Scheme this guy open but if he isn’t, then throw to the secondary receivers.  They are called check downs for a reason.  I believe that Hurts has shown some growth with his progressions this year.

Go back and watch the time Gainwell throws up his hands going to his left out of the backfield.  Sends two signs, that will likely be open if they run that play again with a minor adjustment and two that he is available as the check down.  Watch Smith. He is damned clever.  In recent weeks we have seen him call out a blitz presnap.  Yesterday, I saw a couple of subtle hand signs that identified where the DB was going to be covering him. You can see it in the DB’s set of his feet. Smith may not have been the primary read but he helped his QB see the DB’s positioning.

It is a new offense and defense for everyone. Neither is fully in place and I expect them to tinker with them all year.

This is exactly where I'm at as well. But, I'd rather not go after a QB this draft. I think building up the rest of the roster first, considering how bereft of talent we are on defense, is the astute way to go.

I agree with this.  We are so lacking on young(er) quality talent, especially on the D side, that we need a full reload and putting an inexperienced rookie QB on a bad team rarely ever works out.  Either Hurts shows improvement over this season, enough that you can roll with him again in 2022, or you have Minshew who has already proven (by playing well enough, not great, on an ishy Jags team) to be a credible placeholder.  I admit that I watch very little college football now and most of what I gather of the QB class is from the media and what some posters here who actually watch the games and players have to say.  That being said, I just get the feel that there's no QB in the next draft who will be that much better than Hurts that we need to spend a top 10 pick on him and I don't want to trade multiple 1sts for some other QB (Watson, Wilson, etc.).

We could have 4 picks in the first 40-45 picks and 3 should be for D with the one O pick being an OL player (preferably IOL or another Swiss Army knife player like Driscoll).  But the 5 positions we need most, in no particular order, are:  DE, S (and not an in the box SS, but a play making ballhawking FS), LB, CB, and OL.  We should probably double dip on the D positions later in the draft along with adding another RB.  Gainwell looks to be a player you can use in different ways and so far seems more decisive than Sanders in the run game and better in the pass game as well.  They are more complimentary than not, IMO, so a late round thumping power RB would be a good additions for more balance on the O.

Of course, we need Lowie to not pull their 'smartest guy in the room' BS and actually draft players who can be impactful and contribute starting in Week 1.  No more players who fell because of injury and are good value and no more top round picks who need some development so can't play right away, but have a high ceiling.

Losing begets more losing.  Nobody should be hoping for a 2-15 season just so the Eagles get the highest pick they can.  Defensive talent can typically be gotten a bit later than offensive talent as more teams are gravitating towards taking QB and WR at the top of the draft.  There are usually at least a couple of OL taken in the top 15 picks as well.  WFT build up their DL over the course of 3 drafts -- yes, Chase Young was a #2 pick, but Payne was #13 overall, Allen #17, and Sweat #26.

Just need to have a solid organizational plan and stick to it -- something the Eagles currently lack.

Would you rather have had ceedee lamb or a pointless playoff loss?

Could be. I'll tell you when the All-22 is out.

Well even with the playoff loss, we could still have had Jefferson. You can find good players in the draft outside the top 15 picks. It's not some guarantee that missing the playoffs gets you a good player in return. So while the season is going, I'm cheering for us to win every week. At the end of the year we'll see where we are, but I am not actively hoping my team loses in the first quarter of the season.

Pointless playoff loss. I would rather have another week of Eagles football, then the possibility of maybe getting a WR who might or might not play well for the team.

Excellent points. What we saw the last two Sundays were two teams that have been built to compete and a team that has not yet reached that stage. Encouraging to me is that offensively we're pretty close. Defensively, not nearly.

It takes time - it is just that we are all reactionary and want results now.

The more I look at the schedule, the more I am happy with them having a very difficult schedule to start off with. They will most likely go 1-6 or 2-5 if they squeak out a win somewhere, but at least they are playing tough competition while they are working through who they are as a team. I expect them to play a helluva lot better down the stretch of this year once they figure some things out.

I would probably try to move the last of the 1st rounders next year for a 2023 1st round lottery ticket hoping it turns out to be a top 5 pick.
