Well there was no penalty on the DB on Reagor, that was actually perfect coverage.

Here's the replay of Smith's:

It looks to me like they are both hand fighting, and ultimately, a good no call from the official. Unfortunate for us.

Not sure if that video works, but basically the play happens with 5:26 left in the 4th quarter.

In fact, Smith has his hand on the back of the DB's jersey and is essentially yanking him down.

The call was fine IMO, and Smith knew it too.

Maybe you can. This team cannot.

They should be considering bringing in some FA LBs for workouts at this point.

Kendricks is out of prison, Bradham is still under 50 ..... even Reuben Foster is still on the street and not incarcerated.

Unbalanced line?

Went back over the film. He lined up as a TE on the right on one play in the second quarter. Other than that he was always at LT. What fooled me at the time was that on a couple of plays he lined up as the LT but pulled to the right on an OZ and a couple of screens.

Oh. BTW, Dillard was terrific.

Still works for me. The Eagles facebook group I'm in is getting rowdy though. I've notice that any criticism of Hurts is met with getting cursed out or called racist. Also saw a mod telling everyone to report people bashing Hurts so they can remove them

Which group is this? Also I’m sure the mod is RTK

BTW, Dillard took some snaps at RT!! Not many, but a few.

He did?  Was that in an unbalanced line or what?   I totally missed that.

You can play two high and not give up 7 yards per carry.

Maybe,  if you had at least 1 LB.

If they add that piece to the D next year,  might be ok.

We seem to be running something like the Seattle D, but without Bobby Wagner.

Yeah not a fan of the Bend and Break Defense

And allowing them to stay on the field, wears the defense out, and chews up clock.

See my post a couple of spots back.

Would you rather have had ceedee lamb or a pointless playoff loss?

Justin Jefferson... and I could have had him and a pointless playoff loss.

Is Shaun Bradley hurt or is he not very good?  Never hear anything about him.

I mean, you could just, stop them from getting it? Naw, why blame your own team

It was a foolish thing for Baltimore to do.   At that point in the game, the game is decided and for the sake of a stupid trivia thing, they put players in danger.  If any of the players had been injured on that play, it would have been a tragedy.  Just a complete lack of respect to an opponent, but more importantly, a lack of care about player safety.  Once the game is decided... take a knee and end it.

He's a ST player. A reasonable 6th rounder, but not a starter.

So I was curious about Smith's TD that was called back for him stepping out of bounds. I've seen a few spots where it says it should have been a penalty on the defender, or the catch allowed to stand. I had to go to the NFL rule book:

Ineligible Receivers. All offensive players other than those identified in Article 5 above are ineligible to catch a legal or illegal forward pass thrown from behind the line of scrimmage, including:

(d) An eligible receiver who has been out of bounds prior to or during a pass, even if he has reestablished himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands.

Exception: If an eligible receiver is forced out of bounds by a foul by a defender, including illegal contact, defensive holding, or defensive pass interference, he will become eligible to legally touch the pass (without prior touching by another eligible receiver or defender) as soon as he re-establishes himself inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands. See Article 8, Note 3.

So based on the rule book as I see it, we needed the refs to basically call a penalty on the defender for Smith to be "allowed" to re-establish himself. If there's no penalty on the defender, then no matter what, Smith can't be the first player to touch the ball. Am I interpreting that correctly?

Yes.  No foul, he's ineligible.

TJ Edwards would cut that YPC to 6.0 just because he knows where to be and isn’t afraid of contact like Eric Wilson.

Singleton is terrible.  It was fun watching people try to talk him up and make him out to be qualified to be an NFL linebacker.   He's not.  He's another example of a player being puffed up by folks because the alternatives are worse.  He's bad.  And the fact that he's out there just once again shows the failure of this front office to actually build a roster.

I can't re-watch it but it looked like Smith got away with push offs about 2-3 times

He uses his hands but I don't think that's what is causing the separation.  The defenders are falling and their course isn't getting altered. I mean maybe that's the advantage of him being so light.  He can push off of heavier defenders without it looking like he's pushing off.

The bend and break is what you do when you don't have the FS who can make cover 1 work, or the CBs who can play press man, or the LBs who can cover TEs down the seam.

You take away the deep throw, try to come up quick and tackle on the underneath throws, give up easy runs but hope to get penetration and a stuff and force them into 2nd or 3rd and long.

It doesn't require uber-talents to make it work, it does require a solid group of smart, albeit even if somewhat limited athletes, who might not put up fancy workout numbers but who recognize plays and break quickly on the ball.

In that sense you can build this defense up in a couple seasons by bringing in a lot of draft picks, SFAs and low cost FAs who fit the scheme.

We always like to say, "Andy Reid didn’t value linebackers. However, it’s nothing like what we have today.

Off the top of my head he spent a second-rounder on Quinton Caver, Barry Gardner, and Stewart Bradley. Trotter was a third-rounder. Carlos Emmons and Shawn Barber had great years. He also traded for Mark Simoneau and gave him a five-year contract.

Of course, not all of these guys worked out. That’s not the point. The point is that resources were spent. What we’ve seen the last few years is a whole ‘nother level.
