So guys that are talented but with anxiety issues are in the wrong career?

I think both Brooks and Lane handle criticism well. Their anxiety has nothing to do with some boos.

  • This season has been funny reading the hot takes.  They beat Atlanta: they're legit! Lose a few, play bad: season's over, they stink. Cut/fire everyone!  Win a few, play better: playoff

  • The Eagles are clearly in cahoots with the alcohol industry.

Pocket passer outside of Brady isn't really a thing anymore. Brady is a unicorn now. Now you have to have both athleticism and pocket ability. Aaron Rodgers set the new mold.

I disagree. A pocket passer who is mobile (like Rodgers) is a completely different thing from a running QB. One has thrown himself out of trouble nearly all of the time in his career, while the other has run himself out of trouble nearly all of the time in his career. When defenses take away the run, the running QB fails. A hyper accurate passer will win in today's NFL a lot more than the less accurate running QB, like Hurts.

Every few years some fans say it will be different this time...the game has evolved...pocket passers are endangered species...

As I have been saying about that line of thinking since Cunningham...

The thing about that is.....Vick has a laser like throw and was pretty accurate.....he could beat you with his legs AND his arm......

He didn't in 2004. Yes that was a very good Eagles defense but you find very good defenses in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of playoff games.

My concern is that good teams' defenses will do to Hurts what we did to Michael Vick. Put a spy on him, shut down his running and make him beat you with his arm. Right now he can't do it.

And he won’t ever do it unless he discovers an untapped talent pool of accuracy, field vision, and "snap” on the ball. He’s a career backup in the making. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see the intangibles that can be developed right now.

Did Sanders get hurt in the game?

He was limping on the sidelines after a big run in the 2nd half.

Every year somebody falls into the running QB trap. It's amazing how many do it every year. An inaccurate running QB has NEVER won it all and the game of professional football is 100% designed to favor the pocket passer. Accept that and you'll experience less stress when a QB like Hurts doesn't perform well.

100% agreed.

Just to update for today's games (I only looked at passing stats):

Wentz

250/398 63% 2790 YDS 232.5 YPG 21 TDs  5 INTs 96 Passer Rating

Hurts

211/351 60% 2435 YDS 202.9 YPG 13 TDs 8 INTs 84 Passer Rating

I'm sorry, I just can't discount 8 additional TD's and 600+ yds

Everyone knows what they're getting into with professional sports or any career with public attention or high pressure.

These guys have agents, teams have reps that coach them on marketing, handling the media, etc.

Any player that has a bad game knows there will be negativity. It's strange this is even a discussion, are you new to sports? The internet? Philadelphia?

This is just naive and silly.

I don't think the Giants did anything particularly well today. This was more of a collective failure on the coaches, Hurts, Reagor and some of the other players taking this game for granted.

I'd have to agree. A decent team would have been out of sight today.

I'm sure we don't know the extent of each individual's anxiety. I mean ... anxiety itself is being overcome with fear or doom.  I would believe that  what people read or hear about themselves, especially in a negative form, would possibly contribute to their condition. But if it makes us all feel better calling these players we don't like "mentally weak," I guess we're all the real experts.

with a slightly above average qb, I believe we would be right there with dallas, but no we're one of the cellar dwellers at this point

I don't think so. This whole team is much more than an above average QB away from being with Dallas.

The template IMO is Josh Allen. He was pretty sorry as a passer his first couple years then went to some Quarterback Whisperer and got better. I don't know how Allen pre Quarterback Whisperer compares to Hurts today.

Yeah --- that's why we treat our kids the same way we treat professional athletes. Please ... tell me more!

with this O line I believe we'd be right there, but yeah theres other problem besides the glaring one at qb

Greg Ward drops a touchdown. Reagor two big drops. Goedert with a big drop. Scott with a huge fumble. I know Hurts was bad today, but to put this squarely on Hurts is bogus.

A career back up is exactly what he is

Straw man there. No one said mentally weak and no one was talking about anxiety, you brought that up.

The team played badly. Players & coaches own that and criticize themselves, and chew each other out, hold themselves accountable.

Fans are naturally going to post criticism, just like if a restaurant or product or movie were bad. Stop acting like people don't criticize poor performance naturally, and blame fans for this nonsense.

There are a lot of other problems. The DL simply isn't that good. The LBs are below average. The Safeties aren't play makers. The receivers aren't very good outside of Smith.

This feels like on of those Sundays you waste by watching a poor Eagles effort only to come back in the second half then lose by a field goal to an inferior opponent.

I turned it off at halftime to spend time in the outdoors. This is my present self thanking my past self for this foreknowledge.

I disagree a little about the wr's, with a better qb I believe watkins would be better, and smith, well, he'd be one of the best ones being talked about this year, the D played pretty darn good today

Does this qualify as a Hurtscuse? :fishing:
