While true to a certain extent (Mailata, Goedert and to a lesser extent Sweat were must-signs), I think it’s spin from the organization because they missed out on Ridley and Williams.

All that’s really left is the tier 3 guys. I just wish we added a better safety. There were so many good options in the age-range we wanted. Chark would have been great at his cost too, otherwise the WRs were paid stupidly.

There are starting-level players left at corner and linebacker.

I think he’s spouting the company line. He’s tight with the Eagles.

And S. I am hoping for Honey Badger, resign Nelson, a trade for Danielle Hunter, and a surprise WR trade. That plugs a lot of holes and further allows them BPA in the draft.

Could you see the NFL ever changing the cap to more of an NBA type that allows teams to go over the cap for re-signing their own players?   I know you they have comp picks now, but with QB’s now getting nearly 25% of the cap, it going to more difficult to keep veterans on the team that drafted them.

Right now it’s a QB-driven league, as seen by the varying levels of success with Brady upgrade over Winston, Rodgers, Burrow, Josh Allen, Stafford upgrade over Goff, Mahomes.  It seems almost impossible right now to get to a conference championship level if you don’t have the upper-tier QB leading the way.  As long as that holds true I think the QB portion of the overall salary cap will only go up.

I doubt the players (union) side would agree to the increased cap for keeping their own because I think the players like the freedom of movement.  The change you’re alluding to could only come with the elimination of the franchise tag.  It’s possible free agency could go that way and be bargained into the next CBA.

We overthink things too much on the blog. Howie is prepping for next off-season when he has to pay Jalen Hurts $40m/year to keep his services. Makes sense to me and good work Howie.

What say you @downundermike @Iggles_Phan @4for4EaglesNest

I'm not worried about re-signing vets on short deals to keep them here, especially on defense. There's enough holes on the defense where we shouldn't be creating more of them ourselves.

Would 16 and a 3rd get it done?

That would be a massive overpay.

Landry and Crowder are comparable and would still offer a bit of upside.

A couple of guys less inspiring would be Sammy Watkins (who is somehow still only 28), and MVS — but Quez pretty much already does what he offers.

Any trade candidates at WR around the league? Last year of deal, unlikely to re-sign types.

Tyler Boyd would be someone I’d try and target. Robert Woods would be another I’d try for if they want that vet in the room after signing ARob.

I don’t think he’d cost a 1. Maybe a 2. He had a serious neck injury that cost him his 2020 season and then missed 10 games in 2021.

Hurts is under contract for two more seasons.

Robert Woods supposedly is available. Laviska Shenault.

I forgot about that...

Hope the Eagles still take Ojabo in the first. And Jameson Williams. Two injured players, but their upside is too good to pass on.

Woods is 30 coming off an ACL and isn't cheap. I would pass.

But we are in year 2 of a rebuild... we need old players to suck up cap space to make no appreciable difference to the team and take snaps away from Milton Williams.  It's a rebuild... but we don't want to commit to it and remove bad contracts to free up money in the future.    But, what do I know?   I just complain about this and the Eagles have never been impacted by cap inflexibility/space.

What team wants to pay him the $15M AND give up a draft pick as well, while he was a complete free agent that could have just signed him off the street just hours ago?

Dunno - camp injuries, trade deadline buyers. Situations change, but Fletch is going to need to show something for that price tag -or- there’s hopefully some fluff in that contract, that makes the actual value more reasonable.

This is so underwhelming to read

I wouldn’t be surprised if we are clearing cap space to roll it over to next year where they likely believe they are going to be closer to contenders. I haven’t looked at the free agent possibilities but maybe they also believe the potential class is better to spend it on. Guessing make some additions to the roster but not big time big money players. I’d be happy to be wrong though.

May as well make it a trifecta and take Stingley
