Good points. I think I'm talking myself out of Willis.  Too many ?s to be a top-10 pick.  I'd absolutely take him in the 2nd round.

He'd be awesome in round 2.  So would Strong, who happens to be the flavor I prefer.  But any talented QB with risks (when we need our future QB) would be a great pick in round 2.  That's when you make that move.  If they flop, oh well.  We blow 2nd round picks all the time.  A top 10 pick on a QB needs to be someone that is so special you are willing to commit 3-5 years to their development...and the assumption that everyone is losing their jobs if it doesn't work out.

I'm obviously very impressed with Willis' workout, and am a gambling man so wouldn't mind shooting for the stars with the risk of landing back on earth...BUT this is the type of draft we could expect afterwards and it's not nearly as sexy as if we didn't trade up:

I would rather stand pat....but if he falls to 15, which won't happen, then I would take him

Eagles would need to trade #15, #19 to move up to #5 to get him

Not interested in that honestly

They'll both go in round 1 (likely high) and nobody cares about my opinion, but I value both Willis and Pickett at the 2nd round level.

I care

So just that one throw where he had to scramble away from a middle aged coach and he launches it as far as he can throw it is it?

Negative Nancy

Scripted, in shorts, with nobody rushing him for real. Great throw, but how many times did he practice that? Doesn't tell me he knows how to read a defense, can handle that under real pressure in the elements, etc. It's impressive, but it was intended to be, which is why he practiced that probably the same way many players who are combine wonders practice the drills and such.

So you're saying if he practices things he gets better at them, that's what I want.

I'd waste a first on Willis. Why not? Have him sit behind Hurts/Minshew for a year and see what you got next year.

I wouldn't let Hurts or Minshew get anywhere near him. Have him watch Brady/Mahommes film for a year

So what's the next underwhelming move? McLeod, Nelson or Barnett?

Please no

Emerson with 4.48 very good for his size

This draft will be an interesting insight into the restraint of Lowie.  The Sixers and Phillies have stolen the show with headline grabbing big name additions.  The Flyers are news simply for being a dumpster fire.  The Eagles are going into the 3rd consecutive season in which no one really expects them to compete for much.  People are just debating whether or not a 3rd tier QB is marginally improving and can one day be the guy.  We are going to need a bigger stadium with a strong roof to contain all that excitement.

Caution is probably wise in an offseason like this, but I'm not sure how long Lowie can tolerate being 3rd fiddle in this city.

If you really like Willis, why not trade for Jordan Love at a fraction of the price?

You get your unproven great athlete with big arm talent.  This one is 6'4", watched Rodgers for 2 years, is only 1 year older, and can get thrown out there now.

Okay, if his name isn't Hurts I'm in

Remind me what happened to Matt Coral?  Everybody seems to be obsessed with Pickett and Willis.  He was supposed to be the guy everybody was talking about going high in the draft.  The next Eli Manning?

We already have Jackson on the roster too. Don't even need to trade for anyone.

Recency bias. Ineligible for the Senior Bowl, and didn't work out at the combine.

Trouble is... it takes a lot of discipline to sit a mid-to-high first round pick QB.  Not sure that this group has the backbone to stick to their plan and remain steadfast to it.

I'm saying if you practice one throw on a field in perfect conditions without someone legit in your face or having to deal with reading coverage then I'd expect most NFL caliber QBs to be able to do well. Yes, he has a strong arm. Yes, it was impressive. At the same time that doesn't move the needle much. It's the same as a combine warrior working on drills and then seeming out of this world to improve their draft stock. His agent set that throw up for a reason. It's to wow teams and I'm impressed but that doesn't make me automatically want the Eagles to draft him.

Digging into Willis' college games a bit more, the best team he played was Ole Miss who was ranked 16th at the time.  He threw 3 INTs and ran the ball  a whopping 27 (!!) times for 71 yards.  That's 2.6 yards per carry, folks.  His college resume is underwhelming to say the least.

Yep.  He was a unheralded dark horse to potentially sneak in to the round 1 discussion pre-season.

He exhibited horrible decision making all year and was decidedly not a 1st rounder.  And then Josh Allen had a big playoff game against the Chiefs and people suddenly decided a strong arm is all you need to be a 1st round pick.  So he's back in the mix.

well yeah, when you consider how low the bar is set with Hurts... it would be hard NOT to feel the pressure to start a better prospect over him.

for me I have the same concerns with him that I do Willis and Willis is a better athlete.

POSITIVES

— Long limbs. Uses length well in run and pass game. Likes to get hands on receivers.

— Has quick reads and reaction in run support.

— Very good zone player. Plays with good vision and reacts quickly to what he sees.

— Shows fluid hips when needing to flip and swivel.

— Play reception point well. Swipes through hands and attacks the ball.

— Keeps cushion and stays on top of routes downfield.

— Long strider who gets to top speed quickly.

Third one down would make him a good fit for us no?
