It obviously would be the best outcome for us if he works out. But for sake of argument let‘s say he‘s not our future. You still need someone worth replacing him. Ask yourself this:

If any of the QBs were any good this year why would noone be able to put any of them in the top10 for sure? Given the value and need in the league that should already give you a heads-up about the quality of this years QBs.

So how about not wasting a pick on someone noone really thought was good in hopes that in a few years he might surprise us and go with Hurts until he either works out or we got a real alternative.

On top of my answers above, you have to look at the teams, and where they are drafting.  No need to move up for a QB.

#1 Jaguars - took their franchise QB last year.

#2 Detroit - have Goff, may wait a year, have two first round picks next year, and have 32 and 34 this year.

#3 Houston - like Mills, have other needs to address, and two first round picks next year

#4 Jets - took their franchise QB last year

#5 Giants - other needs, and Daboll will give Danny Dimes a shot and see if he can fix him.

So at this point, you have no teams that will take a QB,

#6 Panthers probably the first team who will take a QB

#7 Giants see above

#8 Falcons, could go QB, but have a bad roster, and will probably be in the top 5 next year

#9 Seattle, could go QB, but have two 1sts next year, and have tons of needs so may wait

#10 Jets, took their franchise QB last year

#11 Commanders, could go QB

#12 Vikings, have Cousins

#13 Texans see above

#14 Ravens have Lamar

#15 Eagles, good chance Corral and Ridder are available.

With people commenting on Hurts like a few usual subjects here I do wonder if you guys did watch the games.

The point I made is that there is not one QB consistently mocked in the top ten. There are multiple mocks but the QBs are different and they usually don‘t say: These are good QBs, they say QBs always get drafted high and these teams need one.

That draft order would only matter if trades didn’t exist. 

I remember one touchdown pass that was memorable...

I don't recall what game it was in.

Gilmore got 2 years $23M. It’s a good thing Eagles missed out on that.

No that's what you're interpreting it as. All I've said is I prefer a better QB or for the organization to take a chance on another QB if they believe said person can develop into your face of the franchise. Whether that's this draft or next year doesn't matter. Furthermore no it's not your responsibility to convince anyone but I thought we were having a discussion.

Once again, we all watch the games, and more than half the posters are ready to move on from Hurts.

As another poster already asked, tell us what you like about Hurts that does not involve running.

Steve Nelson at 2 years $10M looking like a bargain.

 No one knows for sure about this QB class, look at 2012 and the first two picks are out of football. While Cousins, Wilson and Tannehill are still starting and Foles is a backup. 
 2015-2017 Number 2 picks in the draft, Mariota, Wentz, and Trubisky. Not one is on the team that drafted them.  Neither are the number 1 picks from the 2015 or 2016 draft. 
 Last years class was so great that Davis Mills taken in the 3rd round was better than every rookie QB except maybe Mac Jones, because Mills came from an NFL offense at Stanford. 
 The only thing we know is that Pickett and Ridder come from NFL offenses with real progressions, and Strong is the Peyton Manning of this years class in terms of Pre-snap work.

I don‘t even know how that would look like for Mahomes. Fine, I try. But this is my opinion and not a scientific essay..

He always has looked best when it mattered most. I have seen him throw with pin point accuracy on the run and with his deep ball. He is able to escape pressure and if he can‘t he can take a beating. He is able to make the team play for him. He is fully committed to improve.

The weird thing about all this Jalen Hurts stuff is pretty simple. Lots of QBs have just as much mobility as Hurts. A lot of them CAN run. The reason they most QBs fail, even the mobile ones, is because they try to focus on passing, which is the key to playing Quarterback. Instead of running all the time, they try to work on their reads and accuracy from the pocket, during game situations. Hurts doesn’t bother with that. He just uses his legs every chance he gets. So, from a standpoint of moving the football, half his production is from his legs. Which, he’s pretty good at. The problem is, if he tried, or had to, play from the pocket, he struggles. Like most 2nd round pick QBs. 
 

So, yeah, if we drafted, say, Matt Corral, and he tried to become a pocket passer, he might not instantly be "better” thank Hurts. But he’s already a better passer and is probably faster, so why not just have him run every other play, but also have a better arm when he decides to throw, if we’re cool with our QB running constantly?

Wow. Really surprised that he got that much at this point in free agency. Once again I see someone sign that would have been nice on the Eagles and get frustrated, then I see the contract details and can't really complain. Drafting and developing has never been more important with all of these picks over the next two years and teams spending like drunken sailors in free agency. Last year was a good start with Smith, Dickerson, and Williams, but they have got to have two more great drafts in 2022 and 2023.

Willis has turned out to be the somewhat consensus top QB, funny enough noone here seems to want him though.

Those numbers came out pretty fast so I'm sure there's fluff in there. Still think whatever it ends up actually being is probably too high for the Eagles given the current state of the roster and CB2 in general.
