If you're average/below average, you are a bad starter. We are talking about a QB. You can get away with an average RB/TE/LS/MLB/P. It is not a smart strategy to build around an average/below average QB.

I agree. This is why Hurts gets year 3 to improve or he's gone.

Kenny Pickett broke 40 year old Dan Marino records at Pitt for yardage and TDs in a season.

Derek Barnett broke Reggie White's sack record in Tenn

Donnel Pumphrey broke the all time FBS rushing record and Marshall Faulk's rushing records

Im fine for Pickett as long as they dont have to move up to get him and give up all kinds of draft capital. But never talk about college records by a NFL HOFer being broken . Not to mention Ive been saying for months now my gut feeling is Howie is in love with Pickett and will draft him. My gut feeling hasnt changed

I have a bet for you.

Eagles draft a first round QB, you can never put me on ignore again.

Eagles don't draft a first round QB, I will take a 1 month suspension.

1 month without you repeating the same thing 20 times a day? Yes, please!

That was different. He was drafted as a backup. We might draft a backup this year too but no way we go for a replacement.

Point was the only thing that should be surprising to anyone is actually taking a LB or S in the first round. With how much chatter there has been the past two years about going for a replacement, it shouldn't be a surprise and there is no way anyone can say no way they go for a replacement.

Get RTK to take my bet.

No way!

And I don‘t see a LB either.

But even though we never drafted a safety in the first, this may be the year..

The NFC as whole undoubtedly got worse. But the Eagles haven't really improved over anyone either. Which puts them square at chasing the 7th seed unless they fall completely flat on their face (not likely) or have a 2017 esque breakout season (also not likely).

Probably going to be anywhere from 8-10 wins. Their schedule has 10 winnable games with giants (2), Washington (2), lions, bears, houston, jags, Steelers and New Orleans. they still have Minnesota, Arizona, colts, titans, packers and cowboys (2). Very much see them somewhere between 8-10 wins.

So then Hurts can easily be as bad as some of us think he is, and this time next year we are sitting square in the middle of the draft.

There's very few people who think Hurts is completely awful and doesn't deserve to be in the league. I'd say the general consensus of people that want to go in a different direction wants to because they think he isn't good enough and will never get his game to the level where you can sign him to a long term extension.

Eagles were cruising late last year and then lost to the Giant 13-7.

Jalen Hurts laid a turd in that game.

None of these games are gimme's.

Yup. We'll see how this team looks after the draft but I think we'll be closer to 8 than 10. Eagles had a lot of things go good for them last year injury wise. Plus we'll see what kind of counter punches Sirianni will be able to put out there. I think it's going to be harder for him than most other guys if the offense is limited again.

I’m of the opinion he can likely be a top 15 QB if he reaches his ceiling but even if he does reach that i think you are getting stuck in a purgatory where you aren’t good enough to beat the top teams in the league consistently but not bad enough to just bottom out. i don’t think the eagles roster will be superior enough to beat teams with rosters close to theirs and teams with better QBs. It’s kind of why lurie wants to have a QB with the potential to carry a roster/team in that given situation

The likelihood Hurts plays the same as last year is low. He'll get better or worse. Either way, that will tell us what to do.

Give me Jordan Davis at 15, and this guy at 51. Then get a DB at either 18 or 83, and our defense looks much better for the future.

Never said they are gimmes. However even if you go 6-4 against giants (2), Washington (2), houston, jags, bears, lions, Steelers and saints that means against Minnesota, colts, titans, packers, Dallas (2) and GB you’d just need to go to 2-5 to get to 8 wins. Frankly i see the eagles splitting the division going 3-3 (people forget what Dak looked like when he didn’t have amari cooper a couple years back and zeke is done— i would bet we win a game against Dallas this year). Which means if they take care of business against Houston, jags, lions that gets you to 6 wins. Meaning just to get to 8 you’d have to go 2-2 against saints, Minnesota, bears and Steelers

I’d love to make a bet the eagles get to at least 8 wins.

He'll never be a top 15 passer. When you add running in then maybe gets around 15 if he improves passing a bit. But of course he got hurt once last year running. He seems pretty resilient but last year was his first full season and he missed a game and was not able to run as well by the playoffs because of injury. Not a good path

I’m in the camp of people fine with starting Hurts for one more year, but That was really all on Jalen. Our D did exactly what they were supposed to vs a god awful team, Sirianni had everyone up and ready to play. O-line wasn’t perfect but it was good enough. 25 NFL starting QB’s win that game for us

I would be, less than pleased.  That is an understatement.  It would be legendary...my reaction.

Yeah there’s no way this happens lol. Eagles don’t make that trade with the Saints if there’s a QB the Eagles like. We aren’t taking a QB this year in the 1st rd

Totally with you. Dude couldn't get consistent separation from PAC12 corners.

Barrett Brooks had us taking him at 15 in the NBC Sports Philly ''expert mock.'' London was the first receiver off the board. Wilson, Olave, and Williams all went in the 20's and Williams didn't go until 30. Brooks's reasoning behind this pick. The Eagles need a ''big WR.''

I have heard this argument a lot this offseason from fans and so called experts, and it is pure stupidity. This exact thinking is why the Eagles ended up with Jalen Reagor. They were so obsessed with adding a ''speed' WR'' that they overthought things and didn't just take the best WR at that spot. Not only that, nobody seemed to care about the Eagles not having a ''big WR'' when they had Maclin  at 6'0 200lbs and Jackson at 5'10 175 lbs. That worked out ok, didn't it.

They just need a good WR, not a big WR.

You don’t buy that he’s that guy or you’d do everything to get him. Wasting a first like that is just flat out terrible.

But hey it‘s all good, you can create bad mocks all you like, I do mocks to my hearts desire too that rarely play out like this.

But you stated noone could object so I wanted to point out that your mock stinks.

I am. I'm drafting him in the first round.

I will. Another wasted first. Fill some holes on D and get Strong round two.

Strong has 80 year old man knees, and looked like crap in the Senior Bowl against better competition, and his combine was crap too. Hard pass.

If they are all gone at 15, then they likely should take Booth at 15, if he's the target for 18.

Not if they have a higher rated player there at 15 (Davis, Wyatt, etc.). I don't see the Saints or Chargers going CB at 16/17, so if Booth is there at 15, he'll most likely be there at 18.

I don‘t even know how that would look like for Mahomes. Fine, I try. But this is my opinion and not a scientific essay..

He always has looked best when it mattered most. I have seen him throw with pin point accuracy on the run and with his deep ball. He is able to escape pressure and if he can‘t he can take a beating. He is able to make the team play for him. He is fully committed to improve.

I'm fully committed to running off to a deserted island with Elizabeth Olsen...means as much as Hurts' commitment to becoming a franchise QB.

Will fall out of my chair if the Birds don't take a CB before rd. 3.

I can agree with that.

Like having your next franchise QB fall to you in the draft?

Again...any QB that wasn't traded up for can't be considered a franchise QB? It's called evaluating the needs of the teams in front of you. I'll say again, I rate Corral and Ridder equally and would be happy with either at 18. One of them will definitely be there.

Oh for sure not as a pure passer he won’t get top 15. Why i encompassed QB not top 15 passer. At the moment got rodgers, brady, mahomes, burrow, Allen, herbert, Stafford, Wilson, dak, lamar, murray, cousins, watson and murray in top 14. After those guys the drop is to tannehill, hurts, Jimmy G, Matt Ryan, wentz, Mac Jones and unknowns of fields and lance. I think he’s likely more fringe 15 then cracking top 10

Going to save this. This team was very fortunate to be at 9 wins last year. That's the bright side of being in the NFCE. What kinda bets are u accepting for the 8 wins?

If Howie was going to trade up for a QB this year, he wouldn't have made the trade with the Saints.  He had all the ammo he needed to do that when we had the three 1st's.  Why worry about accumulating future picks at that point?

If the seemingly impossible happens and Hurts becomes a steady, overall better quarterback this team is primed to take a big leap forward with all the draft capital we have.  That's worth giving Hurts one more crack at it.  Otherwise we can get his replacement with a better overall prospect and still have some ammo left to build.
